Here’s a general description of the incredibly effective box breathing technique. And then I run through 10 rounds of it so that you can follow along if you want!
Box Breathing
Created by/for the Navy SEALS as a simple way to relax both the mind and body this technique does just that, quickly and easily.
A few extra points before the details:
Inhale only through your nose
TRY to exhale only through your nose too
If you struggle with 4 seconds, move to 3. Once 4 seconds for 10 rounds is super easy, move to 5 seconds
If it’s really tough for you, allow yourself a couple normal breaths between rounds
OK, here we go:
Get yourself as comfortable as possible, seated or laying down. Try to not have any external distractions if possible.
Inhale over 4 seconds
Hold your breath for 4 seconds
Exhale for 4 seconds
Hold your breath for 4 seconds
Repeat for 10 total rounds
That’s it!
