I thought when the girl came out of the fort, she was going to be in some other realm or something and her sisters wouldn’t be able to find her in the real dimension! 🤷🏻♀️
i think she was just about to, cause when she jumped out of the fort, she was a few boxes away from where the dog eventually emerged from so it was probably that 'something' trying to lure her to that world
Movie is a pretty big exaggerated compliment for a short yotube video about a dog getting lost inside a fort that just shows up somehow after being lost for days and has no real ending except for look at this black box. You should probably just keep that one empty box in the closet with the window open while every other piece of cardboard is cleaned up and folded. How else would we ever get a nail-biting sequel to this masterpiece?
facts, like the dog has been missing for an entire day, weird noises are it in, and movement, and no one thinks “huh… maybe we should take the box fort apart” no only after the girl goes inside with the demon do they do it, horror movie mentality😂
Haven't finished but want to give a round of applause for the common sense. Before she stood up in the fort, I asked myself why is she crawling like she's in a man made concrete sewer pipe? Then she stood up. Then she took the fort down without explaining or waking anyone up. This is more realistic than many films I've watched. And I watch a lot. Okay now to finish the film.
I appreciated that as well, but I have to admit my suspension of disbelief was already kind of lost when they didn't immediately take down the boxfort to find her phone, which would obviously be much easier to find without boxes everywhere, and then continued to not take the boxfort down when they couldn't find the dog.
I think this is such a masterpiece (atleast in my opinion) because the whole thing could have had a rational explanation, it even gave a possible explanation of the dog going through the window. It is the fact that it was so realistic that made it so eerie and horrifying. maybe it was because it never broke the immersion. It relied on the ever encroaching feeling of dread rather than the cheap scares, which just makes you all the more paranoid.
This is seriously one of the best horror shorts ever I think, the creepiness, the originality of it and how open the story is, and also the dog doesn't die
Hey! If the dog died, you know she's gonna go full tactical suit and go to that other dimension performing those gunfu moves on those unseen beings 😆 😆 😆 😆
The dog may not die but you don't know that until the very end so for all intent, and purpose, it did. I'd much rather see one of the kids disappear since you know they're more likely to return than the gratuitously dispensable canine.
@@jenniferd107 i... don't think "we had to worry about the dog" is the same as the dog actually dying. i think two fundamentally different things are two different things. what do you mean "gratuitously dispensable canine"? dogs in horror usually have better odds than humans, though there are definitely exceptions to that. you seem like you just... took for granted that the dog was for sure dead, even though we really did not know yet. like... if you think everyone was assuming the dog died just because you apparently did, then i hate to break it to you, but people exist who did not have that experience, and i think there were more of us than there were you. also if one of them disappeared instead i think their reactions would have been very different. e.g. you might call 911 because your sister or whatever vanished, and that would instantly change the shape of things. so it's not like you can just substitute characters and have the same story. a dog (seemingly running off, even if that wasn't what actually happened) being lost somehow for hours or even a day and then coming back or being found is pretty realistic and honestly has happened at least once to most people who have had dogs.
I like how this short film actually builds up the suspense instead of throwing us into it. Makes that feeling of something being off so much more powerful. Helps me connect with the characters too
But boring suspense. Im all for the jumpscares and suspense. just not this. i will do my best to describe it in words as i like to rate horror short films. But it was boring and the suspense was nice and the shadow after holding the dog was not scary in any way, And it was boring but it was original and they put effort in it. Most of the other horror short films are scary and they make me flinch back. but this was honestly just pure boring. The only good thing about it was the dog survived, the girl was not really dumb, and the box fort which was really cool. Horror short films are MEANT to have jumpscares and something actually happening and you seeing the creepy demon in its form. So this was far from what horror films are supposed to be like.
DONT READ BEFORE TO WATCHING FILM!! I’m actually very taken back by the quality of this... I mean seriously the talent here is mind boggling! To see something only 15 mins long terrify me more than most Hollywood movies ever would and no blood, no guts, no crazy people- nothing! Just Nothing!!! Lol you’ve literally made a horror movie and made NOTHING scare the hell out of everyone. I’ve never seen this done before... and the quality of acting script etc just all top notch. I really hope the team who made this continue to produce films as this is one of the best I have seen! So original, I just can’t get over it! Great job guys for sure!!!!
WARNING SPOILER!!! The boxes must've had some connections to a different realm. This is greatly hinted, or as I believe it to be, how her dog went missing for like 2 days and never made a single sound inside the box maze for anyone to recognize. Furthermore, the female who crawled inside the boxes took a long time to transverse through the empty maze. Theo had also seemingly moved away from her voice when she called out to him, further and further. The other point id like to make is the fact that whatever was inside that box fort was also something crawling in it to. It made crawling sounds that kinda scratched the interior, dogs that relate to the size of Theo couldn't possibly make that much noise. As a confirmation, Theo ended up in the box inside the closet. Why wasn't he found inside the dismantled boxes she was putting up? Also, Theo, when she called to him, seemed to have made whimpering sounds. Those whimperz weren't ever heard from anybody during the search. To keep this theory short, I'd like to believe that this short horror creation might even have been influenced by H.P Lovecraft or even Steven King. Both amazing comics horror authors who talk so much detail about inter dimensional beings.
I believe you're onto something, the director was trying to convey something by having the girl find an open window next to the opening of the box fort/ last box not disassembled. Whatever the girls did inadvertently let something into the fort, whether it's something from outside that snuck in or if the fort itself acted as an open window I couldn't say for sure. However, the act of closing the window and covering the entrance to the box fort may have been a clue as to how the dog returned. After removing the box fort, similar to closing a window, the entity was compelled to give up its hunt. Whether it was unable to affect the real world anymore or had to flee to avoid being trapped without an exit, who knows? Good horror short.
Like how our homes makes us sick by their shape. How the rectangular/square shapes of rooms or corners at 45 degrees or more open spaces for negative energy to come in? How curves make us Harmonic
That’s probably the cases because the fort look pretty big inside to be a regular boxes fort it look like it could go to anther world or. dimension one theory that I have is that this could have been a child Spirit that might have lived in that house at one time and had dog and maybe this Spirit laid dormant for a long time . and the dog and boxes fort awakening this Spirit. Because if it’s was a demon or any kind of bad entity no one was harmed in anyway and the dog come back unharmed.
too bad that nothing scary actually _does_ happen... This kinda elevates the "fake out scare" genre to a whole new level. For a horror movie to work there needs to be a payout, you spend time building up the creepy atmosphere only so that during the payout the scary action has a bigger impact. If you have no payout, nothing scary and no action, the entirely thing falls like building a house of cards just to not put the roof ontop at the end but instead flip the table and it all come tumbling down.
It was honestly the most boring "horror" short film i have ever seen. it was original which they deserve credit for, but it was far from scary. the only reason i give it a 2/10 was because the dog made it out alive and for effort/originality. also for the one girl not being stupid and actually standing up instead of crawling around the box fort like a idiot. But overall it was VERY boring, and i want my 15 minutes back that i could of spent watching 1 or 2 different horror films that were actually scary.
Not bad. Its funny how they make you believe there's something sinister, that's going to pop out, any second. Fear of the unknown, is the scary part. So glad that pretty doggie was ok. Just a little shakin.
Or did they? Okay, they probably did. But my first thought when he reappeared was to wonder if it was really the same dog or if it either was something else in disguise or a version of the dog which came from whatever world the fort seemed to be connected to.
@@dpurves28 It seemed to me that the entity was making sounds that the dog would make as lure. I think Theo is Theo because of the extra "departure" from the box fort we hear afterwards.
Very unsettling and creepy, without having to even show the viewer what was lurking in the fort. Just knowing something is there is creepy enough, well done 👍🏼
You took something so normal like a cardboard fort that many people build in their homes and made it scary, I love that! Using the dog is a big bonus bc majority of us care more about the dog more than the people. But you end it in the creepiest way. Bravo!
I like how they twisted the innocence of the box forth and made it creepy because you can’t distinguish if it symbolizes evil or just fucking with you because it didn’t do any harm
I have rewatched this short many, many times because I enjoyed it so much! I LOVE how you ended this short compared to how the short story ended - it was so very effective! The cinematography, acting, music, and dialogue were all fantastic. These actors are so believable - from their expressions, to their clothes, to their mannerisms. This kind of vague horror (you never clearly see any demon or another universe, but you definitely see evidence of the existence of both) is always my favorite because it is so effective - it is all so normal and so mundane and yet....jolting. To me, it sends the message that all true horror media sends: "This too can happen to you."
I saw the thumbnail for this video and wondered: what's so scary about a cardboard box fort? I used to make things out of cardboard all the time as a kid... but as I kept thinking about it, I looked up the concept and chanced upon an online viewing of the movie "Dave Made a Maze" before watching this short film properly. There's just so much potential in the concept, and now I am wondering why it wasn't considered for horror sooner. After all, everywhere I made cardboard crafts, whoever was in charge of the daycare I was in always insisted the activity should either be done outside or kept in just one room of the building. My whole life, I assumed that was because my elders just didn't want us kids making a mess, but maybe there's more to it then just that. Maybe, just maybe, there's a superstitious, supernatural reason behind it too.
Protip. When watching a short horror (or full length horror) at night get a blanket big enough to hide under, that way you don't have to pay attention to the furiniture around you and can't imagine that chair in the corner is a headless monster
Using cardboard forts for a horror film is cool, the tension of small spaces along with stranger invading the home. Glad it didn’t show the things, keep us in the dark
This is a perfect example of why H.P. Lovecraft stories still read perfect 100 years later. Those writings rely on conjuring the horror in your mind. Once it's presented in a concrete visual, it usually never works as well - there are a few exceptions like the short "Other Side of the Box" which goes with this one quite well. Also "Bedfellows" and "Do You See It Too".
I loved the way they managed the resources used in this short film, the production is to be congratulated without forgetting the actresses who acted at a professional level.
This movie is so cool! This is what horror is all about, atmosphere, strange occurrences, and great acting. These girls are all good actors. I totally believe them. And no need for blood and guts. You don't even see a monster.
Handgun Safe Research - It maybe Cool too you😃 But far from a Horror film. Although, it was a good effort, I would say it was more of a Mystery. It had elements of suspense, and wonder, but certainly no frightening scenes, by any stretch of the imagination. An interesting watch regardless.
@@karenbruce5382 Just because it wasn't scary for you doesn't mean it isn't a horror film. Horror is ANYTHING that can be scary, including psychological. Mysteries can fall under horror, but not all horror can fall under mysteries.
@@ladycoyote992 - YOU MY DEAR, can enjoy whatever it IS, that You believe Constitutes as a “GOOD HORROR” This, in my humble, but very well informed OPINION of a “Great Horror Movie” as I have been watching them my entire life. I spent hours, and many years of those, with my brother-in-law watching many of these “Horror Flicks” back in the day, when we would all go out and rent them, we would go out, get our alcoholic beverage for the evening, a few different beverage mixes, and settle in for another night of “Horror” most of the time we would laugh more than we were scared. But the ultimate reason was to spend our time together, as Friends since my sister was no longer married to him☹️ Do Not Tell Me WHAT I SHOULD PERSONALLY see as a “HORROR MOVIE”🤷♂️ I personally do Not care what Your surveys Say🥱 All that matters too me is IF a movie is interesting, keeps People that are watching it entertained, and on the edge of their seats 💺, this DID NOT! Therefore gets a FAIL in my OPINION! So do NOT WASTE MY TIME WITH YOUR MUMBO JUMBO B.S.! People KNOW what They LIKE😈, and what a “HORROR MOVIE” IS! Perhaps YOU MIGHT, GET INFORMED, get some psychological help if needed, but quit trying too convince yourself of something else😱🤷♂️🤔😨😡😰🥵
That was pretty good and scary! Some things defy explanation. The shots "sans" exterior lights are very striking. Odd that the sisters did not discuss the odd thing going on. Lost in the "Box Fort" was nerve wreckin' and caused anxiety. It was that feeling of being in a narrow tunnel or a coffin. Nicely done!
Ive watched so many of these youtube short horror films and can say with great pleasure this one was great. So clever. Did so much with so little. Genuinely creepy
This comment section is full of dog lovers. But for me the environment was way creepy than I expected. It started with soft laughter of girls and then the sounds effects were ON, baby. I really freaked out. Can we have part 2 to this???
Yeah and burn the house down. Parents will kill them lol.totally overreaction lol just dismantle the boxes or. Like me in panic...stomp em all flat lol
@@kayleighfankhauser7042 Because flame throwers were used in the hundreds of tunnels the Japanese army were using as fortifications. That said, I sure gran was joking about the using the flame thrower in the boxes. It is sad that very few of the "greatest generation" is still around. I loved hearing the stories from the Marines who were island hoppers in WW2. No doubt it was hell for all involved on both sides.
THIS IS ABSOULUTELY AMAZING. the fact that it builds tension throughout the whole things and doesn't release it at the end keeps you covering your eyes. 10/10, scary as hell.
Love how you never expose what it was terrorizing them. Makes the horror more unique forcing us to use our imagination on what it was in the fort and home, must have been pretty scary to scare the dog away. Plus you didn't have the dog killed so extra points there.
YAY! A dog made it in a horror short film! I always hated when animals died as you know.😔 Every time, animals no matter what type, rats, ducks, deer, etc should be in safely hand.🙏 Thank you!😃
Omg it was the box troll's.😅 Really scary to even think that someone could come and go through a window and no one even thought about it. And why in the mind of a contractor would there be a freaking window in a closet.
Oh man, this is like something out of Channel Zero (creepypasta adaption horror TV show). If only they hadn't cancelled that series and the showrunners saw THIS short film. Imagine the possibilities!
The entire time she was in the fort I kept averting my eyes and just barely looking because it was freaking me out so badly. Just that feeling of "SOMETHING'S GOING TO BE THERE" even though nothing showed up ugh I couldn't handle that
This should be a feature film. This was unbelievable. Great story, great acting and intense scenes. And it’s something that could work as a full film. It’s why I love short horrors. They’re always incredible stories
A masterpiece, I was feeling so anxious the whole time. The suspense and anticipation were superb, the ending is great, subverting all kinds of predictable expectations.
You should totally see another short horror movie about cardboard box! Its called ,,the other side of the box”. Its amazing and i really recommend it :)
I was getting scared near the end because i thought there was going to be a jumpscare because of the way the camera was slowly zooming in towards the box and then nothing happened so good job on that part!
The happy intro part was super close to life. Acting with pets the same way, not overly happy just some friends returning to childhood. The dog is so cute btw.
i love the way the box structures are used as a framing device, and that the fort seems to take over the house as the only way between rooms, adding to a sense of claustrophobia. also cool how some of the walls of the house are practically the same colour as the cardboard. great use of lighting/sound and atmosphere-anyone who gets freaked out by those scenes in horror/sci-fi/thrillers when characters are crawling through ducts will be gasping for breath! i watched "Dave made a Maze" a few months back so if anyone wants to see cardboard box forts taken to the extreme length, check that out!
The energy and imagination they used has created a sort of another dimension. Was rly worried the dog wouldn't be found after the fort was folded. Really leaves room for the audience to guess what else was in there with the lost doggo.
This was a truly terrifying one. There’s a pretty good reason why to. If you want the short answer, just read this: I don’t like the unknown, and also not being able to see things that can see you. Long answer: so I have a theory. every person has something that they are very scared of I mean, obviously, but really what I mean is some people are very afraid of not knowing the answer to something so if there was a horror movie, where you never figured out exactly what it was but you knew that it was going to kill you. Somebody who is afraid of not knowing the answer to something would be way more scared of that movie.
I feel like I could watch this with my 5yo daughter and she would not be scared at all. I think what's scary in this is the anticipation we have, because there's actually nothing unusual going on, except for the cellphone, the mystery of the teleporting dog and a finger sliding through the sheet, which she probably wouldn't get anyway.
Ay so what if the box fort was a way to cross in-between dimensions and when Theo went in he somehow got stuck in the other. So when the girl went in she was hearing Theo's whines, meaning she would also be stuck in that dimension. Then she had the encounter with the demon and before she had any chance of going back she broke the fort. So now her and the dog are stuck in that dimension. But there is the box in the closet to use ig. But idk this seems like it was not intended in the short film but hey, that's just a theory, a HORROR SHORT FILM THEORY!
I like how the film plot leaves some space for speculations about the origins of these strange events. It suggests guessing whether they were natural or not and makes the hair stand on end if the second option is assumed. Also, the idea of passing the suspense through the possibility of non-euclidean space existence and its inhabiting creatures...well, that's just totally something Phillips Lovecraft would tip his hat to. I find such things very unique and the last time I was that impressed by horror film ideas was after watching "Lights Out" and "Terrified" movies. "Box Fort" adaptation is amazing! Real shame it has been seen by fewer people than it actually deserves, but I hope you will carry on filming similar sketches. Good luck, man.
The fact that you guys used my biggest fear, which is being ran up on in the dark, made me turn every light on in the house…guess I won’t be going to the restroom at night anymore or ever making box forts again😭
This was amazing! What a twist! Three innocent girls building a box fort and losing their dog, turns out they get a "surprise"before getting the dog back! Absolutely loved this!
The ending wasn’t bad but i much rather enjoyed the original from the story. With more budget it could have been fleshed out with the disorienting nature of the box maze. Also i recall something happening before he goes missing with the sheet covering the fort entrance from her room. Either way i was very unsettled by the movement before she heads in for the climax. 8/10 did the source material justice for sure.
