I didn't see how new the channel was at first and saw less than 1,000 subscribers and almost ignored this video. In about 2 solid weeks of 14 hour days researching "vanlife" and camper builds and stuff I've learned a lot. This video taught me in 30 minutes almost ALL of what I needed to begin with. PLUS dude had the audacity to have the single only bathroom I like. I've had a similar plan to this and I'll be forever grateful for the money you saved me man.

Why would 49 people dislike this video? I'm just baffled by this. Who wouldn't want a full-size bathroom in an RV? Their setup is amazing for their investment in it. This setup would cost more than $56K in the "done-for-you" world.

for fucking real. I see so many builds that people with children have for full time and they don't even have a shower or toilet. And they post videos practically demanding praise for their half-assed builds when an extra 500-1000 could've gotten them a toilet and outdoor shower system at the very minimum.

I had a 1974 travel trailer that I got for $500. I gutted it to the studs and started over... it was pretty awesome when finished and I lived in it while I worked on it so it paid for itself. It did require me sleeping on a camping pad for about a month but I was at a campground so at least there was power and a shower house. It eventually got hot water on demand in a full shower and I bought the nicest rv toilet money could buy. And I did a real vanity too. Mine even had pocket doors too! Everything else was built around that haha. Probably had less than 3 grand into into the whole project.

I put on in my garage. It cost me around $700 and I forget how much I paid a plumber/electrician to install it, but it has been great. Now that I think about it, I think the unit and installation was a total of $700. I have seen units far less, but there was some option I wanted that pushed the price up a bit. Endless hot water and high gas and water bills because my teenage daughter never wants to get out.

@@ZebraFacts @George Coffman @Santiago Vasquez. How is temperature controls? I've only used these flash water heaters at the nail salons where they seemingly only have two settings: "off" and "1st degree burns"? So can you get a comfortable mix that's neither lukewarm if you ad cold water, etc? Is there a perfect setting or a happy medium? I hope I explained this well.

I don't even have a drivers' license, (never driven, it's on the program after the world gets opened up again), but, one of my lifelong hobbies is watching people make stuff or explain their development process. Had this fascination every since I used to watch those 'How Things Work' TV programs that used to air here in the UK in the early 80's. that I used to watch when I was a kid. Honestly, It looks like the inside of a house, a very nice one. Beautiful.

This is an option for me to do to my extra one, it's a 2007 Freightliner Columbia (Class 8 chassis with a 24 foot box ) and it is fully paid for, it would be feasible because I can take my time, and work on it in my spare time. I drive a 2014 Freightliner Cascadia (Class 8 with 24 foot box) for work. It is myself and my partner, and it is also paid for. He has prior experience in cabinet making so he could do the majority of the wood working. I am glad people are considering this as an option because these expedite trucks don't get enough appreciation and they will see a new life as a happy camper. Thanks for doing this video. It's a helpful inspiration.💝

A great video in that you talk a lot about costs and give prices--something almost no other van conversion video does. As for the on-demand hot water--almost ALL the class B van conversions use one and many talk about the installation, etc. They come in electric (not recommended), gas, propane and diesel.

you should consider a 3 filter system to reuse your shower water, these are starting to become more known. mostly in European countries. but having a smaller 20 gallon tank of water that you can reuse probably up to 30,000 gals or more would be a big boost.

You built a beautiful, whatever that is! Part RV, part updated basement apartment ( no windows). And if another goes wrong, you are your own RV mechanic. That's a big plus+. But you got to be a millionaire (exaggeration, I know) to fuel that thing! And you said on paper it looked easy and affordable. I would have thought we're going to need a bigger tool box, and most definitely dip into those savings💰!

This is not a RV, this is a full house. I love the concept of building the whole thing around the bathroom. Most people buying a RV believe that the bathroom is less important than the kitchen and that's when they get fed up with the tiny bathrooms and sell the whole thing after a couple of years. This truck conversion is the ideal home for a retired couple, even if they don't do too much traveling.; in fact if I could afford it that will be our choice. Our idea of retirement is to move to a warmer climate year round, so heating wouldn't be a problem. I would install solar panels on the roof (I don't trust propane tanks under my house) leaving some sort of a channel in the center to have natural light through very strong Plexiglass, protected with a metal grill that will allow us to walk on the roof when needed. All and all this conversion is one of the best I've seen. Keep the good work amigo, your imagination is your only limit. Greetings from Toronto.

Hey man excellent video. I totally relate to the build the rv around the bathroom philosophy. I was thinking of getting a older box truck vs an rv (even though 30 year old rvs are insanely cheap) primarily because I think the box truck is more durable. Is this true? I know rv's are known for leaks and walls, floors etc. falling apart. Is that a concern on box trucks?
@BladeoftheImmortal2005

I love this build. I'd change a few things (I'd want a kitchen set-up) but I'd just make the bathroom sink bigger and use a kitchen sink for the bathroom so I could just use the bathroom as the prep sink. I'd also make an office desk where your little bar desk is since I'd want to use my gaming PC for work and play. I'd also make the storage smaller under your bed and change it to a futon so I can sit on it and play games in the bedroom (yea I'm big into gaming.) But other than that I think this is the closest to the build I ever wanted. Edit: I'm 6'5" and this is the most headroom I've seen in a custom build. Which I fucking love about it.

Its really nice but for me it would be not more than 3 days I can have full kitchen Full bathroom like yours ( but smaller ) with a way leaning to other rooms A normal house living room but smaller Some windows around everyroom with good covers ( shades ) A good size water tank can last long A good solar system can run everything or at least the AC for the night Should be four seasons But ofc i respect your needs and your comfort Every person has its needs

This is a nice rig, built by you for you. A lot like I would, actually. Since the rig will allways have oodles of diesel available, did you consider a diesel heater for either water or hydronic in-floor heating? I know a lot of high end and overlander type rigs use it to eliminate propane. Also, that is a huge, flat, rectangular roof, perfect for solar panels. Have you considered that? I hear a Canadian accent mixed with upper midwest US, so maybe with the heavily insulated roof you don't need AC? Well done!

Lots of missing information in this! Been in the RV industry for 30 years…. Fleetwood panel in this bathroom is a huge RV corporation… Most RV’s have pocket doors….just to start. Rock solid adds weight, be interesting to drag it across the scales see…DOT has issues with weight going down the highway. And you have to put you and your personal items in there after you build it.. Windows are amazing to be on vacation and seeing nature. He needed to look at a bit more higher end RV Prevost comes to my mind first You can actually use you kitchen not wash your dishes in your bathroom 🤮. Unlimited water needs holding tanks as well for after it’s used black and grey and all is weight… Each to their own, what works for you but don’t diss what you don’t know…just a suggestion Many blessings

Great build but the cost of running this would be too much for me.

Does anyone know if a truck in this configuration require a CDL or is a Class C enough ?

The custom motorhome I built for myself does look more motorhome. I wish I had made it stelth like this. This one must be real heavy useing all house materials. Mine is a bit heavy for that reason. My registration and insurance is low because I call it a 1974 Chevy motorhome, although it is a show piece. This one is commercial and may have those costs.

The lack of windows doesn't bother me,it'll stay warmer and cooler because of it. I can set up a monitor with some outside cameras to see what's going on outside, outside patio is another great idea.

I am not understanding all the negative criticism. Would I do a similar project the same way? Definitely not however this man did an excellent job and it fits his needs not yours. I'm just as comfortable with a Big Agnes and a jetboil. To each his own.

I have been wanting to do something like this for many years now. I agree with pretty much everything that he said with regards to planning and equipping a box truck as a heavy duty RV. I would not make all of the same design choices, of course - but this was pretty much his point. Design it to work for you. Excellent video and presentation.
