Average LoL player logic: One champion consistently gets fed and screws me over in the laning phase, so I call that an unbalanced champion. Despite the fact that I cannot play the champion, and I've seen the champion lose their lane. You see, Riven has a few counters, Renekton, Garen, Fiora, Irelia, Olaf, Pantheon, Cho'Gath, Malphite, you catch my drift? Play one of these champions against her and its really hard to lose lane, unless the Riven is god or you suck. And if you're an experienced Nasus player, you can also beat Riven, I've done it before just don't die and reset health early with TP. From there rush Frozen Heart and you just outscale her hard with little mechanical effort. I also dare you to buy Riven for the first time and face an equal level player who's barely played Jax, and you will lose most likely.

^That's exactly what I said. If I pick Riven and I see Nasus or Renekton on the enemy team I just dodge or leave. No point in wastint time in a lost game.

Michael Gabriel Oh lol It's been a long time I've been playing riven since this post, forget the Nasus part I've learned the matchup by heart now, but never faced lane Xin Zhao. I played it a few times, destroyed a Malzahar mid and got slaughtered by Nasus top.

+Carlos herrera well she is kinda ballanced cause if she left behind ether in lvl or kills(gold in anyway) she is preety much useless..and playing riven correctly is kinda diffucult..:)

Hate Riven? Learn how to play Renekton, Garen, Fiora, really well, and I also think Illaoi will be a bad matchup for Riven when she comes out. Basically any bruiser champ with high CC or champions that work really well stationary and if they can outscale Riven, that's even better, and that's not all of her counters. Of course, she's still really good in the right hands, and a nightmare for top laners, but most of the time I can beat Riven because I know her so well.

+Jason Deng Not so sure about deaths dance, but if you go lucidity and black cleaver, you shouldnt be running CDR blues/quints, which hurts the early game in theory. Possible, yes. Optimal, imo no

AverageSheky It depends. If your top laner is a tank, they will likely rush an armor item, making Black Cleaver of utmost priority. If they are someone like Jax or Irelia who will build tank items, Black Cleaver is still a good rush, but you can build boots, Vamp Scepter, tiamat, etc. and delay it but still get it first item. If they aren't a tank, Youmuu rush is really good, the extra movement speed helps to close distance, and the flat pen plus extra 10 AD will do more damage in quick trades. Consider Fervor of Battle if you are rushing Black Cleaver, Thunderlord's if you are rushing Ghostblade. Typically I run 10% flat CDR 9 glyphs 1 quint and always build CDR boots (unless I REALLY need defensive boots), and if I rush Ghostblade I typically pick up Death's Dance. Generally speaking, BT is actually better than DD stat wise. If I need Ninja Tabi (really only vs Jax/Irelia) then I pick up Ghostblade or Spirit Visage later on after Cleaver, BT, Hydra.

I haven't even tried ghostblade, but it seems like it's great early but falls off late... could work depending on lane opponent and comp.
