Boxer Meat Factory 

Heading into its tenth year of production, the Boxer-owned meat factory located in Salt Rock (Ballito) on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal is performing exceptionally well and is successfully producing to the massive demands for stock requested by the chain’s stores nationwide.
Set up in May 2012, the meat factory has continued to diversify its offering and now produces russians, viennas, frankfurters and bangers which it supplies to all Boxer stores around the country. Volumes coming out of the factory have reached large proportions, with the factory being counted among the top three sausage producers in South Africa.
The factory changed over from a paraffin/diesel boiler system to a coal boiler that produces energy for the factory. The coal burner provides four and a half times more steam at 50% of the cost when compared to the previous system. “We’re also investigating other areas of improvement, not only to save on costs but to give the factory a bigger ‘green’ footprint, like water recycling for example”, explains Bertus Grobler, General Manager at the factory.
All processing and packaging is done on site and sales and distribution are also managed by the meat factory team. Deliveries are done by a third-party transport company since maintaining the cold chain remains of utmost importance.
The in-house Food Safety Management System is ISO 22000 certified (SABS) and the factory is also a Certified Veterinary Approved Import & Export establishment. The Ballito meat factory provides employment to over 400 staff members hailing from the surrounding area.
