Benny was notorious for acting hurt on the ropes then putting it on you when you wore yourself out. Emile, with only a 20% ko ratio, was known to lack real power and lost fights from fighters who came back from his inability to finish them while up on the ropes. Goldstein had a history of stopping fights too early. A fight or two before this one, his premature stoppage almost incited a riot and the commission warned Goldstein that it better not happen again. I’m not trying to excuse his actions, but this fight was just the perfect storm, now factor in how brutal that era was and all the gay bashing one man did to the other prior to the fight, a trilogy at that, a lot of hate and bad blood. It represents the first time death was captured on television. So unfortunate!!!
@@johnleinweber6857 that is correct! As Lee Harvey died at the hospital and Hank Gathers in the ambulance, it was the first time a death was televised, perhaps not the last breath, but death nonetheless. Most people don’t realize boxing was the nations 2nd favorite sport at that time and many big city high schools had boxing teams prior to the fight. All that changed immediately following. It’s rumored instant replay came from this fight
@@thekasradamma9854 correct, vs Gene Fullmer. In addition, he already had 50 fights under his belt and he had turned 25 just a couple weeks before that fateful night. I’m so happy he was able to have a child before he departed.
He himself could've used his senses and conscience and stopped when he saw his opponent taking all those blows and not responding one bit...it was obvious after the first 4 or 5 punches that this opponent is defenseless and out. He would've still won the fight if he stopped earlier. But those boxers have been trained to rip each other out until you are forcefully stopped. Almost like an animals. Makes me wonder if some of them would ever stop on their own if the referees decide they won't stop until one drops clean. They're humans with life and families and only trying to hustle. He got too excited by the looks of it when he saw all his combos landing with no replies.
@@dantekratos5395as a boxer your job is to hit until the ref steps in. The ref (Goldstein) was notorious for stopping fights early and nearly incited a riot not long before this, the commission warned him against stopping fights ‘early’ and this is what happened. You cannot blame the man who killed him as they both knew the risk before they signed the paper, it was an unfortunate event but the boxer isn’t to blame here, nor the ref but the corrupt boxing commission
That man Needed to hear that forgiveness .. 50 years have passed & he’s been carrying the guilt, weight & understanding that a man died & family destroyed. Strong onions for real.
So why did they need to profit off it? There’s no point in recoding this unless a third party is banking off sympathy traffic, the individual who stole this content will see more profits off this disgusting situation than any of the families would ever get.

I literally thought the same thing. That's why you have referee, to interfere when things got out of hand. However, he could have stopped punching when the man was literally stuck to the ropes. They are both at fault to some degree.
I love the fact this only happened because someone wanted to make money off it. Back in 62 and right now, used that man’s death for all they could, even double dipping right now. The families saw zero dollars in both instances besides the original policy that was a fraction of what this channel is going to make off the sympathy traffic. Pretty disgusting if you really get into the reality here.
@@joetheblu3 It is the refs job to call a stop to the fight. The fighter is instructed to fight and protect themselves until the fight is over. The fight is over when the ref decides that one of the opponents is unable to keep fighting or unable to intelligently defend himself.

This is one of the few times a RU-vid short literally broke my heart. I could see his pain and regret. And his son’s willingness to to forgive him restored my faith in humanity.
It's not so much that you have faith in humanity as it is that you can see God's love and mercy in other humans humanity will always fail humanity will make others suffer humanity is a murderer without God
Boxing is so dangerous, for the man who died as well has this older gentleman with clear brain damage, too many blows to the head affects the person for life, what a forgiving beautiful young man.
@@sockymcblackface7698 you don't know that, stop projecting because you have no clue what that man or any other man would do or how they would handle it
@@danitamccree3716 but as you can see he didn't block any of those punches. Anyone with 2 braincells would have realized he was practically already unconscious. He got into a killing frenzie all because of smack talk meant to hype up a boxing match.
This is beautiful. That fight killed more than one man. And the burden of anger and quilt felt by these men is unimaginable. Momma must of been very strong to raise such a kind man.
This comment section is more revealing than the video. You’d think people are not this ignorant but here we are. This video only got made because someone wanted to profit off that man’s death again by sympathy traffic. Even now, this individual who stole and re uploaded this is going to see more money from this than the victims families received thanks to the eras policy’s. I refuse to believe people cannot be this blind but god damn this comment section is full of easily fooled idiots.
You can tell he lived with the guilt and heavy heart all these years. And the son didn’t come to cause a ruckus but to say to the man who killed his dad that there’s no hard feelings. 😢
You people are so quick to point the finger. Just a bunch of cowards trying to blame anybody for unfortunate circumstances… and this was 62, you’re comment does literal nothing. Besides show how myopic you think

It was a tough Era to be in the boxing sport at that time .and he really needed to hear that wow the pressure this man has been holding all his life .glad his son understands that it's a sport and there's danger involved
The ref was warned by his superiors that if he stopped fights early like he was known to do, he would be removed from his position, in an effort to keep his job he listened to his superiors, it was not the refs fault, but his bosses.
So beautiful to witness this gut wrenching meeting. It’s overwhelmingly touching and sweet and I thank God that both men finally found a much needed peace of mind.
Griffith was being taunting by Paret for being Gay and Griffith lost it. Very sad on every level. Now this is a good thing, Human compassion showing through a very tender moment.
I thought he wasn't gay and was fueled on the anger of being called gay as a straight man by another man. Women could get away with calling you gay in your face, but if a man does it as a taunt that's fighting words.
It's a difficult situation, the Ref had a habit of stopping fights early, so prior to his last fight before this, the commission warned him not to do that again or he's done. The fighter who threw that many punches was also known for having soft hands and not finishing off his opponent. Prior to this fight, his trainer told him to not stop until he knows he's won. Unfortunately a perfect storm was created here.
@@rezarfardon’t care, nothing infuriates me more than people that keep punching, there are plenty of examples in fighting when one knows that the fight is over and will not continue in order to cause damage or worse.. you have to be insane in order to literally kill someone and not stopping the fight because you got a warning is bullshit, lose your job who gives a fuck, at least you saved a man’s life..

God truly is wonderful. This man chose to forgive, which is one of the toughest things to do when someone did that to his family. Respect to that man for not turning to hate and instead choosing to forgive.
The way they both embrace each other and the man is willing to listen to the son instead of make excuses makes me so happy. I’m sick of seeing all the dumb shit like people getting shot or beat up for doing the smallest of things on social media.
This retired boxer was speechless. There were no words to describe his immediate feelings, but “I’m sorry”…for taking the guy’s father at a young age. His sincerity and grief to acknowledge this, knowing his intentions wasn’t to rob and leave a black man fatherless 🙄What a moment.
It was definitely a moment of humility for him. It was probably one of the most important lessons if not thee most important lesson in life. That goes beyond a job. It was a teachable moment.
The amount of relief he must feel! Being able to forgive is such a good and valuable trait! Everyone of us can make a change and forgive someone else in the future! We have the power to change the world for the better! 🙏🏼
