Hi Dr. Ebraheim, As someone who struggles with orthopedics and needs a visual to truly understand these conditions, I am so grateful for your videos. Thank you for open-sourcing your knowledge and hard work in making these videos. You are not only helping a lot of future providers, but also our patients!
I clicked on a random video about a broken hand to let people who are worried about it that’s you’ll be fine . I broke my hand a month ago for punching a medal pole and completely shattered my bone which broke my 4th and 5th metacarpal. I was put in a split and had a choice to do surgery or not but he said if I do surgery there’s a chance that it won’t do nothing (since it chattered into pieces) so I chose to let it heal on its own but every few times I’d take it off and ONLY bend my finger and put it and warm water and move ONLY my fingers around and now I can put my hand in a fist 2 months later but still going to therapy which I just started. So people who are worried you’ll be fine your hand my looked alittle off but it’s fine hopefully some of you feel better because I was freaking out while I went through RU-vid when it first happened
@@calebx0096 if this just happened how long ago and can you still put your hand in fist while it being sore or you can’t put it in a fist at all because of the soreness?
I end ended up getting this last Monday and I got to go to a hand specialist rn tmr, I’ve actually been working every day since it happened and tbh it’s not been bothering or giving me to much trouble, I’ve been able to make a fist and I’ve been kinda doing a little bit of physical therapy myself. I’ve been icing and occasionally been wearing a splint and I know you should be wearing one throughout the 4-6 weeks it takes to heal, but I know if they put me in a hard cast I can’t take off I won’t be able to work and rn I need to work and make money. So I honestly think I wont need surgery because it’s not really been painful more so just very stiff.
Ahh here is the senario i had too. But it is way too serious than i thought. And I seriously suggest you to take treatment. Well i had same financial situation but id rather loan some amount than live with a broken or misaligned bone.
I broke mine and in a follow up appointment with a different doctor he told me he didn't like the alignment and decided to re-break it (On edge of his desk) and I'm glad he did. He aligned it much more straight but offset where the broken edges of the bone meet. This encouraged the bone to regrow around each offset edge forming almost like a thicker ball where it is normally weak. It looks totally normal and I think my wrist would break before breaking my 5th metacarpal again. If you break yours ask about offsetting.
I punched a wall, spent a week with bearable pain. After a week, there was this wierd bump above my fifth metacarpal bone and upon checking the xray , i got anxious cause i broke a bone right in the middle. Hospital, treatment and etc. Doc said they will remove the kwire after 4 weks, i am now on 4th week 2 days to go for kwire removal. I am a web developer and i seriosly need my right hand. I did not feel pain until ive seen the xray. Shouldve taken care at the earliest. I am afraid that if doc ask me to wait more to keep the kwire because there are concequence. Lets see. May god bless me with good health.
I broke mine over 5 months ago I couldn't get surgery because I didn't have 500$ but I ended up using some things I learned when dealing with broken/fractured bones and ended up healing with almost no complications other than the occasional stiffness
Broke mine 4 days ago and taped a BIC pen from my fingertip to palm and am using a hand / wrist brace with a shank to immobilize it and it is doing well. I don't have insurance so I'm hoping for the best. I assume 4 weeks it will be fine
I fell and punched the floor with my fist trying to catch myself I had the boxer fracture. I am still a little stiff but I can close my hand completely. I am 68 so probably so arthritis in hand also. My little finger is crooked and pops at joints but ok no pain. It takes time to heal at my age.
Yeah the boys! Hope you’re regretting punching that wall. Can we all agree that we deserve this? Ahahaha my hand is killing me but all I can do is laugh at how stupid I am. Definitely wasn’t worth it.
I broke my pinky 6 years back from a fight, i didnt do anything about it for years.. I even started practicing on walls but just a few days back, got in another fight and i think its broken again. Its swelling and the movement is not normal... Should i go to a doctor or just train and let it heal by itself...
Guys, so ihave boxers fracture since 7 yo and im now 12 yo, i have 2 in left hand and 1 in right hand Index and middle fingers in left hand, middle fingers in right hand, so how i can fix this fracture?
In my case, it's the 4th metacarpal, broke halfway of it that the fist part sink. The ortho just pulled my finger and "connect it" and it will heal naturally. Now on 2nd week I don't even think it's still connected to each other and still swelling and numb. Is this normal? Am i cooked?
I currently have a boxing fracture in my right hand from punching a solid wood door back in 2016. Of course it’s 2023 now and it still gives me problems. I can’t give people a firm handshake without it hurting. I shook hands with a military recruiter and he almost re broke it.
Sir, I need a small suggestion I have punched a wall my little finger is swollen as you explained in this video Please suggest me Which type of doctor I have to approach
@@Mr_Original_ go the doctor or ER depending on how bearable the pain is. Get them to do an X-ray to assess the full extend of the damage. And then the doctor will the right course of action. Do not ignore it my man! Best of luck.
Hi bud my 5th metacarpal bone angle changed in the neck doctor contacted the surgery team they said its too late because it already healing :( will the function of my hand change will i be able to work out or anything am stressed
Broke all of them in my right except my thumb, dislocated the knuckle though. 1st time was my 4th and 5th in early wrestling practices and 2nd and 3rd time was punching a wall. 1st wall was straight brick and that actually broke my 2nd and 3rd. 2nd wall was drywall, but ya know...there's wall studs. Took out my 4th and 5th again. Was a long time ago and now I basically have a club for a right hand.
My mom can't differentiate fracture and swelling only, she thinks that a simple massage can heal my broken bone. I just told her that my bone was pushed upwards without any cuts or wounds and I immediately put it back to the original position but it didn't. I can't recover my knuckles and my grip greatly decreased and it's been 5 days after the initial injury and it's still untreated. Please tell me how to recover my bones back at home, I don't see any sign that my family will take me to an orthopedic. I've been pushing my bone back to the original position and puling my pinky finger so my bone can have some space to go back to. I need immediate answer ASAP thank you.
P.S. I can move my hand but my grip is greatly decreased, my knuckles appears below the normal knuckle positions, still have some swelling (I think) on the palm(base) of my hand. [UPDATE] I've already go to a person which tried to correct my hand, it's almost correct but there are still some wrong in my hand I think? Because first, my knuckles appears below the original position. Second, my bones aren't straight when I tried to touch it. Third, swelling are still present. Fourth, I do not trust a person who is not a doctor
@@fastmodz4life421 i suggest going to a doctor. They'll align ur bone with a cast so you dont move it. If you move ur 5th finger it might be crooked. If you are young maybe 16 or less, the bone probably will go back into place. But do not move ur finger if you can get a doctor. I had my fracture 2 months ago.
It's been 1 week since I took off the cast. What worries me is that my pinky can't lie flat. When I try to high-five, my pinky always stays tilted. Did any of you experience this? Does it return to normal? (atleast being able to high-five or wave to someone with all my fingers alligned flat)
I broke my 3rd and 4th metacarpal for punching something hard on my dominant hand (Right). I didn't felt it at first until I looked at my hand. After seeing, I immediately pull my middle and 4th finger cause they are literally submerged and you can see it visibly. My hand was swollen that it looks like a fat man's hand and it got darker colors at different parts of my hand. I can't even write during school hours. I'm using my left hand which have a very bad penmanship 😆 I never went to a doctor for a check up and as far as I know, it got fully healed after 3-4 months. I cannot feel anymore pain after that months. But I can feel that it's totally different and not normal feeling just like my left hand. And the way it looks today is also different, the third and fourth bone knuckles are less visible now. But it's still functional and I already accepted what happened.
Same thing happened with me yesterday, I don't want to have a checkup but my hand area near 4th and 5th metacarpal is swollen and knuckles are less visible as compared to right one, I may get a checkup today but i don't want to have a surgery(I can move my fingers properly except pink, i can move my pink finger to but it's like somewhere 95-96% of it's ability) i am okay with casting or split but I just don't want surgery
@@ashtaroh bro, as long as your bones are properly aligned just take your time for recovery. Always try to use that hand even in a minimal way, just control and observe based on the pain you that feel. As soon as you can already move your fingers, and hand. Keep on doing that everyday even there's a little pain. Don't let your hand stuck in the same position as it heals. Or else, the movement or motion of the joints and bone might become lesser or limited compare to before. Swelling is normal cause you broke your bone. Just use ice or ointment to lessen the pain and to feel relaxed.
@@ashtaroh Also better to listen to your doctor first. Surgical procedure is not always the answer. I broke my bones multiple times, I never had any surgery. Just the proper alignment of broken bone is what we need then the bone will heal itself, My limbs are still fully functional even I have history of broken bones. So don't worry
Im in pain from approx 2 months. I got to know about this now but the structure of my ring fingure knuckle is different and isnt changing. It hurts when i punch. What do i do of it? 🙏
Hey i got a boxers fracture about a week ago and i accidentally bent my finger quite far picking something up and im now worried it wont heal properly. It doesnt hurt but im panicking as its my right hand
Mine happened 2 weeks ago. Doc looked at the X-ray and put me in a splint. Knuckle is very low and pinky is rotated. If I try to make a fist the pinky finger tucks under the ring finger. I asked the doc to set the bone into its original position but he said the angle was in an acceptable position. He didn’t have me do any opening or closing of the fist to check for rotation of pinky. It’s bugging me that he didn’t do enough for me.
sir I have met with an accident and my little finger(middle phalanges) was broken and doctor treated me with a splint. sir after healing ,the healed bone gains normal bone strength and is there any chance to break while punching?
My 5th metacarpal comminuted fracture was sustained from tripping , also fractured my left 2nd toe, up hill & landing on my open right hand. It still hasn’t fused and really feel it is from the support, which has a curved plant that reads under all my palms metacarpal necks, kinda encouraging the breaks to separate 😢
Hello sir, my 5th metacarpal was fractured (oblique fracture ), and it's just in position, doctor said just split is enough for 6weeks. 15days back split is removed, now 2months and 10days completed, but fracture lines still visible, how long it will take to go off fracture lines on x-ray, metacarpal fractured lines still visible after 2months??? how long it will take to disappear fractured lines on X-ray.. can I do physiotherapy because, fractured lines are still visible now. please tell me, thanks in advance....
I just broke my 5th metacarpal when a wrench slipped and I ended up coming down on a vice full force. I boxed as a young man and never broke a hand before. getting old isn't for sissys! :) I'm in a slint now. doc says I'm looking at about 4 weeks. Thank you for the information Dr Ebraheim!
@@isacdaimary9908 Getting better. It is still painful when clinching my hand or trying to lay fingers flat. Some days I have more pain free flexion than others. I would say I'm getting better. one question. is it good or bad that I try and push past the limits of mobility "and pain" in hopes of increasing range of motion.
I also broke my fith metacarpal because I punched to floor to hard the finger really hurt but I didn't went to the doctor because I didn't want my mother to be angry at me, so I just ignored I didn't really notice the bone was broken until my brother accidentally punched my ring finger so hard I couldn't bend it and this time I went to the doctor and the doctor said "there is nothing wrong with the ring finger but we see something wrong with the pinky" that's when I noticed it was broken but the finger was fully healed at the time but the pinky is absolute garbage right now.
I hurt my knuckles when I landed on my hand, and it only hurts over the knuckle and on the palm when I press it, but I am easily able to move hand, and my pinky does not look crooked when i make a fist, and both my hands look the same, one with the injury and one without the injury, I can easily move pinky with no pain, and the pain is slightly improving each day, by like 5 percent, I got a tournament next week, any idea wht I should do
I punch a wall once a week from my anger and it gets bruised and swallowed and that's it. In 1-2 days it's gone. Today i punched it really hard with all my knuckles and i couldn't move it for like 30 minutes. It hurted and it still hurts and it got swallowed and bruised (idk if it's from yesterday) but i put ice and it's "normal" but i feel discomfort in my metacarpals and fingers. It kinda hurts and feels weird when i make a fist. What do you think and suggest
hello dr. , I have a metacarpal fracture in my 5th finger and I had surgery and a platinum was inserted. I have decided to keep my platinum for life. Is there any harm in my punching right now?
@@ThatOneLonelyGorilla It wasn't blue or black for me either, but it was quite swollen. I didn't go the first day, I felt like vomiting, so I went the second day and the doctor said it was broken.
It should be set properly , i had to wait overnight to get mine set , hurt like a sob ,no anesthetic , when that bone is pushed inward toward your other finger it needs to be pushed back to where it was . and was in cast for a month or so.
I got in fight in school unfortunately I can punch very hard I max out punching machine so cherry on top I also sprained my right hand but i dont understand that guys are saying it was hurting for year I removed cast in 3 weeks and I have smallest pain imaginable and I can do skyhook in basketball no problem and I block shots with fractured hand i can even do push ups
I too punched a wall nd got fractured..now its been 2 months now..im not alowed to wrkout im very sad..when will it be like bfr🥴😒..nw onwards i wont punch on the wall only on glass💯

My Right is fractured like this but it was already a month past without any professional medical treatment and it still hurts to this day what do I do?
ok so is there a way to fix this without surgery? I have on my pinky and it doesn't hurt now but the knuckle looks misplaced or went back. its been about 5-4 weeks now. Didn't also see a doctor cuz I tought it's not that serious and it would go back by itself. im stupid I know
So did it heal on its own or did you have to see a doctor? I punched someone in the head and now my hand has some pain when I apply pressure. My pinky does not hurt a bit but lower down by my knuckle does
@@trell3245 I guess it did. it doesn't hurt anymore, but my pinky knuckle is deformed (went backwards) I didn't see any doctor but I guess I need a surgery for this to go back to normal.

Some years ago I got in an arguments with a girlfriend and got of the car, went to cool off and punched a round pillar. I heard a very loud audible SNAP and then pain that only increased with time and bad swelling. I did not have health insurance, I asked some guys at the ambulance depot (I was nearby) if they thought it was broken (said yes) and if they normally do anything but imobolize it (they said no). So I just iced it and didn't use my hand. Now if I make a fist, my pinky knuckle is not visible , and I can feel a strange deformation at the neck of the fifth metacarpal.
I’m writing you a daily prescription of milk with unlimited refills biweekly. Take 2 cups in the morning and at night. Do not take more then prescribed.
I broke my 5th metacarpal 2 days ago and I had surgery earlier today. I’m going to have to wear a splint for 3 weeks. Can anyone help give me tips on how to sleep comfortably? Please and thank you so much
it'll take 2-3 days of uncomfortableness to sleep only, after that your splint will lose in some time and you'll get used to it wish me luck it's been 3 weeks in splint now to me I'm gonna do the x ray today morning🥲

My biggest fear is getting in a fight and having my knuckles break again that would be devastating . They’re always tender since a recent fight I got into & it’s tough cause I can’t turn down a fight , but I also I can’t break my knuckles again either so it really sucks
If you’re about to get into a fight put a lighter in your hand before the action starts happening so when you land a punch it will reduce the amount of range those knuckles can be pushed back.

@@krishnagk631 yes K wire removed 2 month ago. There is no pain and I can grip my fist normally but my finger is still stiff because their is no muscle aur tender tissue into the fingers it take much more time to heal from normal fracture. 😄
I broke my hands over a year ago and never got treatment. Now they're completely disfunctional and cause me constant distress every waking moment. I can't explain to my doctors how they aren't functional because they only look at the fact that I can move my fingers. I became an alcoholic a few months after it happened. Now I've given up alcohol and am suffering from depression because of it. I have bad health insurance so my doctors aren't the brightest bulbs. I would have to study to become a doctor in order to figure out how to heal my own hands. I am only twenty seven and can't live another fifty or sixty years like this.
@@lowriderbike2215 you don’t to have surgery I’ve known people that have had the same injury and their hand healed just didn’t use it till it was completely healed...doctors just say you need surgery for almost every break you get.
