Won´t you break your hands and lose some solidity from the connection if your hands are open? I´ve always been taught to keep everything loose, but when your fist is on it´s way to the target you squeeze your hand shut really hard to lock in your wrist and protect your metacarpal bones and so you won´t lose power from your fist or wrist wobbling. The way it was explained to me was keep everything relaxed, except your arms from the elbow to your fist should turn into a metal beam as the punch is flying.
The Razah i didn't mean keep your hands open throughout the whole motion, you should keep your hands relaxed in a curled up position but not clenched into a fist that slows you down dramatically and is a waste of energy, you only clench your fists at the last second when you're about to hit the target, I've always punched this way even trained bare knuckle on a heavy bag and no hand injuries.
My man you have the best boxing page on RU-vid. The way you teach is easy to comprehend. Your knowledge and wisdom of techniques is high quality. Respect.
These were some awesome tips. One flaw in my own game was lack of footwork when punching. I was almost scared to engage and I ended up starting my offense from too far away or not stepping to my opponent.
I love the footwork part that little bounce with quick Stutter Step as long as you keep your Technique clean that put speed and Power on look I'm watching his boxing videos and practicing his boxing techniques here on out
Coach Anthony you do a great job of breaking down techniques and explaining when it will and won't work. I just came across your channel and I'm happy I found it. You da best!!
GREAT tips! Thanks coach. A tip from 28 years of karate- Practice in slow motion. Sounds opposite to what you want to achieve but trust me. Its sorta the same as watching a punching technique vid in slow mo...Your brain can process it in more detail than if you go full speed, and you also pay closer attention to your technique because its easier to feel and see if you're off. Give it a shot
U need to do both.. Muscle memory is very different when doing fast.. Not wrong but fast is very important otherwise u will only throw slow punches.. Think slow push ups and fast push ups, different feeling and is easier than the other.. The balance is different too.
another tip is not to clench your fist until just before moment of impact. starting the punch with a hard grip will slow it down, take snap off the end of the punch, and will tire your arms very quickly from lactic acid buildup. Every former Soviet country school of boxing teaches this (russia, ukraine, kazakhstan, etc). Thank you for the channel Anthony, you are doing excellent work! I am originally from Ukraine but am a US citizen and love this country so much and want to see us do well in the Olympics like USA always did a long time ago. The more resources our kids have the better shot they've got and you are part of the solution for this.
@@topcat365 any punch... to be clear, it's not open hand at beginning of punch. You should wrap your hands in a way that lets you close your hand almost completely or completely without straining hand/forearm muscles, but if you tighten hand just little bit then wrap will be firm/hard. I don't know if i explain this in a way that make sense.
I make my guys stay off weights , they bend springs (power twisters) . Can also use rubber bands and also webbed gloves and punch under water for resistance training .Also we use the endless rope and battle ropes
Ok I'm all in I really like this boxing coach He's sharp and technical this was the first boxing video of his I seen I did what he said and immediately could see and feel the results
Tip 7 add weights while shadow boxing . When your using to throwing punches with a 3 pound weight take away that weight and your hands will feel lightning fast Then when you work that bag everything Anthony said but stay in your mind move as fast as possible . Recoil as fast as possible. Don’t hit as hard as you can hit as fast as you can ! Good training gents !!
I hit the bag with over 12oz gloves for mins non stop . Best technique for best result. Right after your done you'll notice your hands are a lot faster. Need stronger shoulders
Thanks for your videos homie!! I actually used to get picked on cause I thought I was too short to defend myself, then I remembered how short Pacquiao is
You also have to change your attack when you’re jumping in and out like Pac-Man does. You risk getting timed that’s what happened to Manny against Marquez. He picked up his rhythm coming in and caught him and the rest is history. He knocked him out
one time i sparr with a dirty thai coach training me muay thai for only a short period of time he started to disrespect me without reason more than one time i sparr with him only punches i punch him with unusual combo uppercut to midsection follows but left+right hand hooks with all punches was over commitment and he was totally unconscious, after that i think it's was slow i will make it fast and crisp thank you coach Anthony
Hitting a moving target has less power than a big that does not move.. U need a bag that moves, watch pacquio hit the bag he follows.. Heavy bag is for heavy punches, u cant just fight with heavy punches, u will be tired, u save them for finishing an opponent..
Coach I had a shoulder surgery and I just wanted to know wat are some good tips on to throwing good punches and bad punches I don’t want to mess up my shoulders I want to be a good fighter and know wat I’m suppose to do but fighting was the reason why I had a dislocated shoulder 2 times and I had to get surgery wat did I do wrong to mess up my shoulder
Thankyou so much I have learned so much from your videos already... I was flat footed and couldn't move , but now having taken bits from many of your videos I've got my own rhythm and I can move around like a mosquito … I love it and I've done so much better in my sparing than I used to.
Instant in boxing training? Ya all got gassed! 1. Speed ball 2. Shoe shines 3. Ball on head band (any brand) & ball catches w/ partner or off wall 4. Double end 5. Pad work w/ coach combination punching, correctly knowing which punches to throw at what time is key to add speed and or the appearances speed for you slower handed fighters. Change your tempo!! 6. Light weighted shadow boxing, 2-5lbs mixed in with your regular shadow work, and or resistance band shadow work mixed in. Not saying he’s wrong but if you came here looking for actual exercises to help increase speed!
next video idea, utilizing ambidextrous styles.. transitioning from a natural orthodox fighter, to finding your southpaw strengths, and weaknesses to build upon .
