@cutelittlecaramelkid What happened actually was High Hat came out in US after this was a hit on the R&B charts. It was made up of some songs from an LP Tense Nervous Headache, which came out everywhere else but the UK where it was canceled. High Hat could have possibly come out in the UK had this song been a hit, but it flopped there. Boyfriend came after everywhere else from the songs that were on High Hat, but not on TNH, with other songs with dance producer Vlad Naslas recorded at the time.
@@CourtneQuintae This song was actually supposed to be on Guy's debut album according to Timmy Gatling. Here's the interview: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4gVvKIIzuDc.html
I had no idea Riley produced this! Now that you mention it, I honestly have no idea how I didn't know. It has his sound all over this!! No wonder I loved it so much!
This song was the shit back in the day ... It made #5 on Billboard's R&B charts, back in 89. I still remember listening to it in my buddy's 1983 Cadillac Seville. Those were the days of fun hip hop. Glad to see George has lost the weight and is drug free. Also, awesome to hear that Culture Club is back together, and working in the studio, to get a new album out this year.
He always had the black side in him,if you heard his earlier stuff the dude had some soul,I think in this one he finally came to the cookout lol,he came in hard with this one and just to let you know the genius Teddy Riley was behind production with this track which explains it all lol.
@@CourtneQuintae no gene griffin is the one who wrote and produced the. track. The version on the north American release of the album is actually a remixed version by Riley, but he did not write or produce the original track. Get your facts straight!
I was at a block party in the early 90's that was pretty dead.....This song came on and entire block went crazy.....True story! Boy George was killin' it for a minute. ...
I am actually one of the audience members....longest day of my life and I didn´t get a juice box ..only the cute guys did..plus...cant see myself at all..but hey! I can say I was there....
The Genius which is Boy George is all encompasing, if all the people of the World would just embrace his music in it's entireity the World would be a much better place. George is a once in a Generation talent.
FUN FACT!! This song was originally written for Bobby Brown, but he turn it down when it was introduced to him. In the mean time, Boy George solo career was slipping, and said he is willing to try anything, and that is when someone introduced him to Teddy Riley.
Cool fact. Boy George totally made this his. If Bobby sang this, it would've been one of the weaker songs on "Don't Be Cruel", because that album is flawless, unless Teddy made it funkier for him.

George said in his book that Virgin records wanted him to not wear lipstick in this video lol! They thought it would hurt his chances in America as a solo artist. I love this song! I remember BET showing this a lot but not MTV.
@@HarveyDent322 It wasn't that. It was basically since Hair Metal taken over MTV after New Wave or the second British Invasion took over the channel in the early to mid 80s was over, that's when the channel and the music was going downhill
Simply just a slamming song, Boy George, has a great melody in his vocals, his tune is always on point. Another great on the album was “ You are my Heroin”
Boy George smile on 3:36 is so beautiful and magical, he is very cute and I love him so much, god bless him, this song is one of the best songs ever it deserves more success xxx
RIP Bernard Belle (57 !!, Jun 23), musician (ex-"Manhattans", "BET" gospel shows "Sunday best" and "the celebration of gospel"), new jack swing and soul producer (partner of Edward Theodore "Teddy" Riley and songwriter (Michael Jackson - "Remember the time", Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown, Patti LaBelle, Aaron Hall, Keith Sweat, Al B. Sure ! and Today. etc.), brother of soul singer Regina Belle(58) ("Without you", with Peabo Bryson, 71) ;-(
Boy George is the VERY best singer I have ever heard in my life. No one else has his chops. He has a great gospel voice... wish he'd do a few songs sometime.
I used to have this on 12 inch vinyl. Man, I miss my record collection. Great song, Boy George is one hell of singer. Thanks for posting, brings back great memories!!!
It shows how willing Boy George was to try different things with his music. It was Virgin’s American branch that had the idea to have him do new jack swing. George was absolutely displeased with the Teddy Riley songs, but because the Tense Nervous Headache album had been cancelled in his home country of Britain, the record label needed to replace some of the songs with the Teddy Riley songs to release the album in America as High Hat. High Hat likely would have been released in Britain as well, but “Don’t Take My Mind On A Trip” flopped there.
michael bruno NO it was written by teddy riley too & produced this is literally his sound that he created. How did you miss teddy’s name all over this when u did your research... the song was written for BOBBY BROWN & he denied it
@@CourtneQuintae no you are wrong. I have the original cassette/lp with liner notes. Teddy did not write or produce the track. He only did remixes for the song. Get your facts Strait
No gene griffin production/writer. Riley only did remixes for the song. If you have the North American version of high hat the version that appears is a remix done by riley.
Never heard this one...been having a BG and CC party tonight...morning and will definitely go through the albums and listen to each song. It only gets better!
