Thanks Markus, very useful explanation. I had come to that conclusion, but didn’t know why my Boya worked that way on my iPad. Much better to get the dirt from you than bang my head against the wall.... during a contest! I got the same microphone that you have but it’s double so I can do interviews and two-voiced webinars. I use it on my laptop while the speaker output is on usb.

Great! It took me a while to figure it out for sure.
Can you comment if the external speaker will interfere with the lavalier mic if someone else is talking during the zoom call? Will it cause unnecessary feedback to the entire zoom call?
2 года назад
If the speaker and the lav mica re both connected to the same computer, the echo cancellation in the software should prevent feedback.
Nice video and crystal clear description. Your soul must be a teacher. What if I open zoom in chrome browser of my mobile? Will it be able to solve problem?

I'm not sure. But if you are able to select another speaker, and it's not blocked by having something plugged in as headset, it could work.
Sir, i have one question. My laptop is same as yours(only has single integrated headset jack). But when i used this boya mic during video conferencing while the laptop is charged, why people can't hear my voice instead of only buzzzzzz sound is heard. But there is no buzzzzzz sound when the laptop is not in charging. Can u help me?
You do not need a bluetooth speaker.. you just need a "female to two male audio splitter" (make sure to buy a quality one, and aslo make sure that one male socket is for mic and the other one is for only audio output. My splitter has two jacks, one is red color and the other is green) .. then you can plug this mic to the female socket and plug the mic jack (red color jack which comes with the splitter) to the laptop. Make sure that you plug the mic jack.. the other jack (green color) from the splitter will remain unplugged. Laptop will automatically recognize the device as the mic and laptop speaker will not go off.. I used this method to use my earphones as the mic and to get the sound from the laptop speakers. I was struggling at first too.. but finally around 2am today I figured it out by myself.. hope people will see my comment and ease their burden 👍👍🤟🤟
@ yes, it helps me for boosting the output sound better on pc/laptop, and in a smartphone, it helps me to split the mic input and speaker/headphone output, so i can use my boya for meeting application. Maybe you can pin my comment to help the others who watch this video too...
My laptop (Dell Latitude 7390, with a single 3,5 headset jack) doesn't take input from this mic. There's no problem connecting headphones via Bluethooth the problem is the input from the mic doesn't work. There are 100 of confusing videos about this problem with conflicting solutions. Some say you need battery/camera mode, others that you need an adapter etc. I don't find many TRRS to TRS. Or will the splitter help getting the input in? Great value though if you get them to work...

It is a pretty confusing topic! On my laptop it works well in phone mode.
@Christopher Smith Yes! I bought an adapter, not sure what it's called. It has two separate jacks for mic and headphones and goes into a combined headset jack on the laptop. I think it's the same type you could use if you have a gaming headset with two separate lines (green and pink) but you want to plug it into a laptop with one single headset jack. Sorry I don't know the proper terminology. But the staff could figure it out when I explained in a computer/tech shop.
For a phone a 3.5mm jack, I think you could get a 2-1 adapter that split into a mic cable and a seperate speaker cable, then play phone audio through the speaker. Not sure if they offer the same thing for usb-c.

Perhaps that could work! Never tried that kind of cable. I've just seen the splitter cables for using two headphones.
Hi Markus. We have the new IDOLCAM VlogStar V2 shotgun/Lavalier microphone in one, small size, perfect for vlogging, can we send you one to you to play with?

I had search for some help to use my BOYA microphone everywhere and your video is way more informative than I expected and easy to understand... got the help that i needed, so thank you!... a well deserved like

Thank you very much! I always struggled with the setup, so I figured this would be of value to others also. Thanks for watching!
There is a lavalier microphone that allows me to make video calls or video conferences with my cell phone and at the same time use the cell phone speaker. That is, speaking into the microphone (to improve the audio) and listening through the cell phone speaker. I have tried some microphones on my cell phone but they immediately block my cell phone's speaker
I got this mic today. Works perfect with my phone with the switch in the "Off/Smartphone" position. But my laptop doesn't receive a signal until I switch to the "Cameras" position. Even then the sound isn't that great. My laptop has a headset input and I only got it this year, so pretty sure the port is TRRS. Any idea what's going on?
3 года назад
If the sound is bad, are you sure it's coming from the mic and not from your internal laptop mic? One way to check is to scratch the mic and see if that generates sound.
@ Thanks for the reply Markus. Yup I checked. It's coming from the mic. But it still doesn't explain why I need to keep my switch in the "Cameras" position. 😔
Just about to buy a Boya BY-M1 to use with a smartphone to record sound ... watching this video had me worried, but it seems (please correct me, if I am wrong) .. for input only the microphone works fine, just if input and output was required, there would e a problem Regards from Whitley Bay, UK
Год назад
That's correct! It's a great little budget mic. Just use an app where you can choose the microphone (built-in or external). Not all apps let you choose.
Hi... I purchased this BOY BY-M1 microphone for zoom using my smartphone... I ran some tests a few days ago and your right it didn't have the option to change the mic however I found that it still worked... I tested with people in zoom and they could hear me clearly... very interesting...
2 года назад
Yes the mic should work just fine when it's plugged in. But I believe it disables the speaker.
@ yes you would be right too. For this case I'm lucky I won't need to hear through speaker as I only need to use the mic only for this type of setup. It's for church and I have my mobile close to the lecturn with the mic clipped on it... I'll be controlling and listening from another phone. Thanks for the video.
Can you have the BOYA BY-M1 and a Polysync 20 connected to a laptop at the same time and be able to speak in the microphone and the polysync 20.
2 года назад
Yes that should work fine. Just select different mics and speakers on Zoom or any other application. In fact, I often use the Poly Sync 20 with a separate USB boundary mic. It's the MXL mic I have listed here: kit.co/markuspresents/hybrid-meeting-setup
Thanks for your explain. It's really helpful, but I have 2 questions. I noticed the connectivity between bluetooth speaker and BY M1 lavalier. But can BY-M1 connect to bluetooth earphone? or can it lavalier connect to earphone by addaptor? or Like using both of them at the same time. Thanks

The BOYA BY-M1 does not have a bluetooth connection.
@ can i use earphones with a built-in mic-although the mic quality is actually so bad so i have to buy a lapel mic-into an audio splitter for the laptop? Is it possible for the lapel mic to be an option in the settings or not?
@ I have just bought it today and it has been a pain for me to elicit any kind of movement from my smart phone so far. Though I have downloaded this app called "Open Camera" but it still doesn't satisfactorily a solve my Skype video call recording problem.
@ can I still use speaker on my laptop during zoom meetings when boya is connected? Or Its compulsory to have BT speaker??
3 года назад
@@NjabuloHadebe It's hard to answer. At least my laptop shuts off the speaker when I have something plugged into the headset jack. It may be possible to turn this feature off, but I haven't found it yet.
Hi, Markus. I tried inserting my lav mic in my laptop and used bluetooth headset at the same time. That it means I should use the SOUNDCARD? thank you.
3 года назад
@@ceddiecortez8486 I don't know how it looks on your system, but that's a great place to start yes.
Thank you. Can you recommend mic / mic setup for a teacher who needs mobility within the classroom where the Zoom training is being presented. For example, there is a teacher desk and a lab type table setup for teacher demonstration with white board behind. Is there a reliable quality wireless or other setup that you could suggest for this scenario? This is not a hybrid Zoom with both live and remote groups... Just a remote group attending the class/meeting that includes lecture plus demo at more than one location within the room.

You have two choices. One is a wireless lavalier mic. The Rode Wireless system is great: amzn.to/2ZdBuR1 The second choice is a conference speakerphone. I use the Calisto 7200: amzn.to/35ME57m The benefit of this approach is that you won't get the problem I mentioned where the laptop switches off the speaker. You can hear how it sounds at different distances (3 ft to 15 ft) in the second half of this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H8Y2OkR_88E.html
Thank you! Could I use this microphone with my smartphone just for streaming? I mean the others hear me but I don't hear them?
3 года назад
It could potentially work! However, there are a few challenges. One is that if you don't have a native headphone jack, you need an adapter. The second one is making sure that the phone uses the external mic. The phone may or may not choose the external mic automatically. And if not, you'll need to choose it manually, which is not really an option in all streaming applications.
@ Thank you for your answer! Could you tell me what is native headphone jack? I have one with three strips (TRRS) for my microphone.
3 года назад
Yes that's the one I mean, a TRRS jack. It's just that many phones these days have gotten rid of headphone/headset jacks. On my OnePlus 5 there was one, on my OnePlus 6T I have to use an adapter. On the Boya mic you can switch between TRS and TRRS with the, well, switch.
@Markus Seppälä can I still use the speaker on my laptop during zoom meetings when boya is connected? It won't mute my laptop thinking I've connected headphones?? ?

See my reply to your other comment with the same question.
Thanks you sir it's very helpful this, need to have input and out put in connecting the boya to loptop: it's first time to use ___ you must have speaker to connect _🧡
can we off the mic from the button on the mic itself without touching my laptop

If you connect to a laptop headset jack, the mic should always be off. If you're asking whether you can mute it on the mic, the answer is no when connected to a headset jack.
Hi, what about a usb sound card for laptop or even pc, will this work for boya M1 mic, then you can add good usb powered or other speakers? not sure how the usb sound card trs and trrs conections work?

I haven't tried a USB sound card myself. But it should work the same way the desktop sound card in the first section.
@ Thanks Markus, I am in the process of buying some gadgets and looking at different scenarios so just want to get everything required at the same time of purchase to be ready for most situations...I looking at getting the Boya M1 dual head...Tx for the great video.
Hi, im looking for best mic. thanks for the fruitful explanation. But, i hve question, i'll have online interview thru gmeet. So its that i still need to use Bluetooth speaker as no hybrid meeting there? Just me and panel in the gmeet. Hope u can answer for this. Tq

You didn't say what kind of device you're using (desktop, laptop or phone). So I can't answer your question.
@ sorry sir. Is that possible for me to use the mic without Bluetooth speaker when using laptop? Somebody say cannot use this mic solely bcoz we can't hear other people say in the gmeet. Hope u can lighten up these questions tq sir

@@noradilasyahirajusoh2959 A separate speaker would be the easiest solution. Or there may be a setting in your system to keep the built-in speaker active.
This is exactly the kind of video i was looking for. You didn't only explain how, but also why it works in that way. I have only one question, when connecting it to a desktop (using camera mode) does it drains the battery?

Thanks for watching! Yes it does use the battery, but if I remember correctly, the battery is rated to last for 700 hours. I've been using mine for over 6 months and I'm still on my first battery.
