In my circle of friends growing up we all watched Totally Spies and Kim Possible, but somewhere along the line the girls all discovered anime and got way more into Inuyasha and Naruto. It was up to us to carry the burden ourselves, and suddenly we were the more vocal group on the topic.
I'm not complaining, but they changed Clover's sexuality based on the subtitles from the French dub of the show. I grew up on this show, Alex was my crush.
I loved Totally Spies :D The Colors the Design the Attitude :D dont care if its Fetish Service XD glad they are remaking it again :) can I get a WHOOOOOP WHOOOOOOP
Sometimes i look back to my childhood, preteen and teenage years reminiscing with my guy friends about the shit we used to watch ....yeah, we're so far from alpha males we graduated from the greek to the korean alphabet And you know what, I'm not ashamed 😅
Back then when I was Like 10. My lil sis didn't Like it. but me? I FALL in Love with the show and my first childhood Crush is Clover which is also my Fav
Unfortunately, I couldn't get into Totally Spies when I was a kid. Sam, Clover, and Alex may be hot but I found the show kind of boring. To me, it wasn't as action packed as OG Powerpuff Girls, OG Teen Titans and TMNT 2003.
Not gonna lie, but of all the gals within the three she always gets herself bend over protruding herself up compare to the other two whenever she falls falt to the floor...lol.
As someone who was a little boy when Totally Spies first aired I can agree that I love the show. Sam has always been my favorite and have a crush on her as well as Clover. I agree with you on characters, gadgets, villains and Mandy but one thing that I want to add that I liked about the show is that in every episode the girls had different outfits on which was something I hadn't seen before.
I am a boy and i always loved it and so does my twin brother and our 5 year older uncle. We used to play it our uncle was Sam me twin brother Alex and i was Clover.
@@antonco2 I got many friends with uncles that are either the same age or slightly older. I always mess up and say "your brother" when I meant "your uncle" lol.
@@Oyi_14 I don't think you get it. I was around 12 or 13 at the time, so I was watching anything with hot anime girls, especially in skimpy outfits. I called them guilty pleasures because at the time, these shows were thought of as just for girls. I would've been a laughing stock if anyone found out. And no, I'm not adding Powerpuff girls to this list because they were 5, and therefore don't belong based around the aforementioned reasons. I shouldn't have to explain any of this as I thought "Guilty Pleasures" would've provided the entire context that I am now telling you. I also shouldn't have to explain why I included my age range during the time I watched.
It always hurt like hell when a friend was over and I couldn't watch those shows when they started and actually had to trashtalk them as to not get found out by the boys (even tho they propably watched them too). I`m glad that I don't give a shit anymore now (and the boys are long gone anyway)
Tim Scam as a villain was scarier for me, imagine someone ordering your home to kill you then demanding she do his laundry in the most sensual voice possible…. Crazy 😮
@@Yingkoos Fair enough, but consider this point. The entire time we were seeing it from the victims POV, sure the victims were also spies but we still saw it from the daughters POV. I agree both villains are creepy, Helga’s just more scary as a concept because of how scary the idea behind her plan is
Watched the OG totally spies while I was in secondary school. Very few girls were into cartoons let alone action cartoons around that time. Most of the girls i knew were already hung up on soap operas. The thing is simple, action stories with likeable characters, male or female, will always find its target demo
I don't think there was one specific girl I was down bad for, but looking back I figure that Alex is the best of the trio. Clover is ten pounds of drama in a five pound bag. Sam basically is that type of girl who volunteers for ALL of the things and I've always been a lazy bugger. Alex? She's just a sweet heart.
I was literally just thinking this as I was scrolling through the comments. I just Finished a magical girl show with three main colored girls. And I got to this same vibe. I know this is technically not a magical girl show but it follows the same story formula. This show was actually hype and I love the 70s aesthetic.
Watched this show almost every time it was on tv when I was a teenager. I even taped a new episode on VHS so I wouldn’t miss it. Sam was my favorite and is probably the reason why I got attracted to girls who were really smart and wore academic/academy style clothing or labcoats and glasses etc. The “nerdy” look I guess. It is funny how every guy had a crush on one of these characters from these girly shows lol. For Sailor Moon, Totally Spies, Kim Possible, and even the Carmen Sandiego reboot dudes will not hesitate to tell you who their favorite was and how it shaped their attraction to women. It’s weird but kinda understandable since most of us watched these shows during our teenage years.
In the German version, GLADIS´ name was changed to IZAUVS because they had to translate the acronym. It also speaks with a male voice and is adressed with "him". The localization-department ran through this show with no mercy.
I liked Alex the best out if the three, but I also liked Jerry. Jerry is brillant to come up with all those gadgets. I also love his interactions with the three spies.
You know I'm genuinely proud I grew up in a time period where there was a push for diversity and kids to watch whatever as long as it wasn't obscene (as in gender norms came less into play)... before the widespread growth of social media. It was nice being surrounded with so many great TV shows with male leads, female leads, Asian American leads, African American leads, native American leads, freaking aliens, and so on. And a lot of the kids around me watching them too. I don't think they always did diversity right, but there was a great effort in trying. Most importantly it didn't feel like companies were just doing it for social media clout or that people were outraged both when there was and wasn't diversity.
The reason why it worked so well was because most writers were just being creative. Today the first thought is we need a character who is this or that and the creativity is inserted afterwards. People can sense when your goal is to sell an idea vs tell a story.
My older brother, my younger brother, and I growing up as kids LOVED shows with a female trio. Inevitably we each called dibs lmao. Big bro had Clover, my younger brother had Sam, and of course I had Alex. We imagined being adults and going to the mall or trips and vacations with our ladies who would be as close with one another as we were to ourselves. I remember those convos being so inspiring and hopeful, the optimism of naive youth. As adults we've drifted way more than we expected. Dating is harder than we thought it would be, as only our older brother is married (seemingly not as happily as he may have hoped to be) while me and the youngest brother are both single with basically no prospects. If only life were as simple as we thought it would be as kids. Thanks for making this video man this brought back some memories I hadn't looked back on in awhile.
Totally Spys and Winx Club were the girliest things I watched back then. I never liked how girly they were, but i loved the girl boss and female empowerment and fighting. Edit: Alex was always my favorite as a kid. She was sporty and loved animals. I dressed as her for Halloween once. As I got older I realized Sam is probably the best of them, but I still like Alex.
Wait this show was still airing in 2013-2015 WHAT? That's surprisingly recent... I had no idea it went on for that long! Edit: Holy crap it was on Disney XD too? I remember this show from when Jetix replaced Fox Kids 💀
*Totally Spies* is a bit like *Sailor Moon* and *Cardcaptor Sakura* ... only real boys watched those 😁👌 (albeit usually in secret at the time; couldn't let the school rumour mill find out even a potential weakness 😂)
This show got me to play with dolls as a wee lad and I honestly don't regret it lol I forget if I had a fave out of the girls but it's a toss up between Sam and Alex
While I wasn't a fan of spy shows, I was very invested in animated shows that had bright colors and where the main characters didn't wear the same thing all the time.
I mean it was a definite parody of charlies angels. The missions were short but sweet. The characters helped pull the show. And there was always jokes so it was easy to get invested in. It had a Jimmy Neutron kind of appeal even before Neutron was aired, with all the tech gizmos. Men aren't against female lead characters, they just have to be well written which totally spies did with not 1, not 2, but 3 lead characters, technically 4. Didn't the three of them have kind of a school rival? Even she was a compelling character.
Static Shock is by far the most underrated Warner/Dc/discovery/Shell/whatever Property Imagine living in the time-line where Static Shock got the spiderverse treatment.... If only
Hi from France buddy. I got to tell that boys in France were SO HYPE about this show this was a regular ” cartoons ” conversation as much as Inazuma and Beyblade bro. Sam will always be their fav with Flora ( WINX ) so far ( Mine is Clover for sure ).Guys who are not afraid of admitting that girlish action show were peak masterpiece will always be on top of the hierarchy fr.
I remember when I started to watch Totally Spies I did it on my own because me and my friend group were still on the classic “girls and girly stuff is icky” boy phase 💀 Alex is peak 🔥
As a kid I had the biggest crush on Alex and she ended up being my first, and really only, cartoon crush. That phase of my life were good times, watching them kick ass and save the world from the stupidity of some villains. Alex was best girl! Fuckin fight me❤❤
im also a guy that liked this show. i really liked how the girls wore different outfits when not in spy uniforms which was something different cause in most cartoons they have the chars always wear the same clothes
