Boys Tragic Death Could Have Happened To Any Family With 20-Foot Pet Python 

G on a mission - In a word, *abuse*. My sister and I were raised from infants in a home with both a 300lbs python, and a West African crocodile, and other than the loss of part of my left hand, we were fine. I have to think these people abused their snake by neglecting to feed it enough baby pigs.

HotCuppaCoffee and the snakes get the blame! I do NOT consider a swat team, tear gas and the, over 80 rounds of ammunition that was required a humain way too euthanais a family pet.(unhappy from England :-( )

My pythons are my friends. I keep every species that was used to photoshop this video, plus more. This video actually had terrible photoshopping jobs. The truth of the matter is that more people have been eaten by dogs, or even housecats, than have ever been eaten by snakes. I know the media makes you think otherwise, but thats only because the media publicizes it when snakes kill a person WAY more than do for dogs and cats. People still repost 20 year old snake stories on youtube and most of them are 100% fiction. Dogs alone kill more people every single year than all of the python species combined have killed in all of human history. Look it up if you want.

As long as there is supervision, it is somewhat better but not risk free. If the toddlers make a prey movement, they could be attacked. Strangulation and permanent damage could happen within minutes especially if the snake is larger than adult human strength or the person is not trained in python disarming. Reptiles do not really bond. They have certain habituations determined by conditioning.

For the record, all 2,800+ nonvenomous snake species combined cause less than 1 human fatality per year on average, and thats WORLDWIDE. Dogs kill dozens of people yearly, just in my country alone... worldwide figures are obviously much higher Phobias are by definition irrational fears. Its not rational to fear nonvenomous snakes. Its a waste of time and energy. You are literally more likely to trip on your shoelace and die than be killed by a nonvenomous snake. You wouldnt fear for your life if you saw your shoe untied would you? Thats how silly it ia to fear nonvenomous snakes. If you dont lile snakes, its as simple as walking away from them. Sounds like my house lol. Im going to school for herpetology too. My kids are also growing up with many reticulated pythons, burmese pythons, an african rock python and many others. My kids absolutely love them and actually get confused/sad when other people are afraid of them. They are all extremely well socialized snakes that im working with for future use in educational programs. I use a special method called "drop feeding" that removes their feeding response completely. Its a bit of a misnomer though, because you dont actually drop it. It basically involves hiding the food without their knowledge, and then making them find it themselves. That way they no longer associate you opening the cage with being fed. Its actually extremely effective in most cases. Im surprised its not more well known than it is. The only time it doesnt work is when you have lazy snakes who wont search for it, or too small of an enclosure to hide it effectively without them seeing you. You dont want to get tagged while you hide it. Honestly though, now days I can hold a rat infront of my 10ft african rock python and she wont take it untill i put it down. If thats not impressive idk what is! Even then she NEVER strikes at it. She just sniffs it till she finds the nose and then gently opens her mouth to start eating it. She doesnt even bother coiling it up half the time lol. Id obviously never let my kids handle them unsupervised, but they are all VERY well behaved snakes. They are extremely tolerant of kids being a little too rough or touching their face etc. Infact i think well socialized, bigger snakes, are the best for kids because they are so much sturdier and less likely to be injured by the kids. Its also harder to lose them, but obviously not impossible! Haha. ANYWAYS, a few years ago when i worked at arizona reptile center... we had an 18.5ft long burmese python, who was both our mascott, and the states largest burmese python. Long story short, she escaped from her temporary enclosure during a cage cleaning of her main enclosure. I was helping customers with insect feeders when she popped her head out from the bathroom behind me. The customers all started either freaking out, or just laughing hysterically lol. We put her back and everything was fine. She was only out for a few minutes. It just reminded me a little of your story with the retic. Sorry this was so long. Your story just reminds me of my family and my critters. Thanks for posting it!
