I'm 73. I first heard Boz when I lived in The City in the 60's and 70's. I've always liked him. I'm surprised that he isn't better known. Or that he never became that shooting star. Oh well, he moves in my soul so I guess he's where he's supposed to be, at least for me. Such a talent.
I remember reading the critical reviews when it came out. Some not very kind, I bought it anyway. It picked up steam and it seems after that it was all very clear sailing, critic wise. It's a very nice album.
I am also 66 years old. I was 19 when I bought this album, Silk Degrees. Oh, what an introduction to this fine, fine musician and his deeply soulful, rhythm and blues, and deeply felt sound. I've seen him twice in Uptown Napa. I am grateful to have experienced his music live and in an intimate small venue. Thank you, Mr. Scaggs for your music, an evening relived and enjoyed again via these videos. God bless.
Bass player is perfect. I bought this DVD a while back for me when I found out my youngest daughter had no idea who Boz Skaggs was. I’ll probably never get it back.
Agreed. Mine too. But like you say, any song on Silk Degrees could be anyone’s favorite. I danced to this one at my Junior Prom, 1977. Not sure what year the album was released. ‘76 ? Same night my date and I danced to Lowdown, another of my favorites of ALL TIME
We just saw Boz last week, 18 years later, he and his band were as good or better. Don’t miss the chance to see this guy before he rides off into the sunset!
Boz Scaggs will always have a place in my heart because my father and I would listen to his music together and marvel at how good he is, now that my father has passed away its really special! Great memories forever!
Such beautiful comments, I would embrace all of you. Boz .Such a gift . Voice, lyrics etc. Amazing ability to take one into the moment. Ya know this guy is singing from his deepest soul.
I was a senior at San Diego State in 1976. Boz lyrics and incredible harmony defined the 70's. His music was unique and a sound like no other. Classics are timeless, thank you for incredible memories.
Boz and his band are amazing! Best band of the 70's. I played Silk Degrees on my 8-track until it wore out. I love these guys. My heart literally flips when I hear them.
Boz has a unique timbre of voice, vulnerabile and touching. One feels that the person has gone through a lot. He is one of the last romantic musician and outgoing nature.
Damn! That pianist was all over that thing(5:34-6:55) like a hobo on a ham sandwich. And never missed a lick! What a beautiful sound.....the entire band.....just a dynamic group of artists!! I ❤️ them all!
I specifically played that keyboard solo of the DVD for my 4 year old grandson. His mom likes rap. Hopefully he'll remember the beauty of a keyboard solo!
You are so right. I'm 59,but this music was such a part of my life, I no, because every time I hear it I'm back there, in a time I loved so much, but I didn't Realise it at the time.
A wonderful performance of a beautiful song. Boz is the lead vocalist and has his name on the bus, but he's not THE STAR. Everybody gets to play on this team; together they make incredible music that lasts forever!! LOVE THE MUSIC!!!!!
Throughout the 70’s and 80’s Boz was was constantly on my turntable. Great singer/songwriter that hasn’t gotten the acknowledgement he deserves. Why hasn’t the RRHOF acknowledged him? So many have died before they get their just deserves.
I purchased this album when I was in Middle School. It taught me so much musically as well as being just a wonderful piece of music from start to finish. It will always be one of my most favorite albums.
A very Happy 77th Birthday William Royce "Boz" Scaggs June 8, 1944. Your songs were inspirational for us when we were young. And now, more than ever. Being that we're older and wiser. Thanks William.
Not that I don't agree with you (overall) but he needs to be in the RRHOF. I think Jazz too but I'll defend Jazz in that I don't think he is advertised that way,..if that makes sense? And Jazz (my opinion) focuses more on the instrumentation/melody, and Boz is a SANGER:):) But yeah, he and Sade' should be in both RRHOF and Jazz to me. He's almost Marvin to me but a little smoother and more subtle; minus the overt (sexual) overtone in some of Marvin's songs,..and drug issues.
Silk Degrees came out when I was in college and I listened to it none stop. I initially bought for Lowdown, but gotta say Harbor Lights and We're All Alone became my favorites.
Music used to take you someplace ... you would never forget the time and place you heard an arrangement like this. It used to touch our spirits. You could connect. Now you just want to run away ... before someone dropped a house on you. Oh well ... it was ... OUR TIME. Semper Fi
He used to come into a small club where I lived and sit in with the house band, or whoever was playing because he had a house not far away. Such wonderful nights.
Feeling nostalgic in 2019. Allowing the joyful music to wash away the dysfunctional cacophony of our modern day society , who's children cannot fathom the beauty of it all.
The best thing about Boz is how he is a live quality act. Very difficult to pull that off. Studio acts come & go, but being able to perform to this level live is soooooo goooood.
Artists that made it big in the 60’s (his first solo record was 1968) had more natural talent because there was no Protools, no auto tune, and fixing mistakes by punching into a track was far more limited. If you can go into a studio and nail the vocal naturally you can also do it on stage.
BOZ Scaggs should be recognized as one of the all time GREATEST musician in Jazz ,disco and blues , I THANK HIM FOR DIRTY LOWDOWN MY FAVORITE DISCO SONG , IN MY BOOK HE'S THE BEST EVER . THANK YOU BOZ Scaggs for you music
This is one of those songs that has the ability to pull forth a jumble of childhood memories from the 70's. Boz had such a unique voice , hell , he still does. Beautiful version.
Mike Tabor you are right. I remember dancing with the first love of my life to this song. What a sweet memory. Luckily I had a couple love's of my life after that. As a matter. of fact I have been married to one for 31 years. Great song.
Just wanna agree.....& say that I used to sing for a living, and after sharing one of my RU-vids on Facebook, a musician friend who I've only known digitally via FB, commented that my "phrasing was exquisite!" That compliment made my heart sing ❣ ☺☺♥
@@Lexandjim I just went to your channel hoping to hear something from you and didn't see anything? :) I'm not a critical listener. I like all art with good intentions and I'd love to hear something?
@@dagnabbit3383 First of all....being the ancient Senior that I am (at 73 now YIKES!!) @@Lexandjim Oh, thanks about liking my name :). I chose it years ago when I played a video game against other players. I wanted them to say my name when I terminated them hehe.. often they would. It also reminds me of the name Dagwood from Dagwood and Blondie. I'm 60 so I still have lots of good old TV shows in my memory banks. :) LOVE your music and voice, Alexis.
Mr. Boz 💙my Dad just passed away and he knew how much you mean to me.I playful the piano and every one knew my mood..My Dad told me and I was blown away.90..he was. THIS SONG TOUCHES ME, LOVE LOVE HOW BOZ SINGS IT, I SAW THROUGH THE WINDOW YOUR SOUL AND I FOUND YOU SO TRUE WORDS WHEN YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR TRUE LOVE, BEAUTIFUL WORDS, SMILE
What a beautiful song, lyrics and vocal.... and that keyboard is just so fantastic ... there is no way I can figure out what notes he (they) was laying down .... Damn ... so good!
I was always a Rocker and have been listening to him since the 70s . Being in my 50s now, i really love this stuff. Maybe I'm just getting old, maybe it's just plain good.
Saw Boz's band in the tiny McCarter theater at Princeton University in the fall of '71. Did about a 15 minute Loan Me A Dime that had us hypnotized. Fast forward to about a year and a half ago, saw him and the group in Durham and they hadn't missed a beat. My buddy and I would have seen them again last week but they were playing on the same night we went to see Steely Dan and Elvis Costello. Talk about not missing a beat…Fagan, Becker and the boys and girls in their band were off the charts. Now, Boz is coming back to NC, here to Wilmington, to play in a brand new performing arts center in October. We already have our four tickets, front and center. Nothing like live music.
Silk Degrees was an integral part of the soundtrack of my college years in the mid-late '70s. Harbor Lights takes me back to memorable slow dances at the frat house.
Cathi thomas thanks Cathi. it was a sweet time in my life. still friends with him 40 years later, but we have both been happily married to other people! for over 30 years.
