Dude, with over 6 billion people in the world, you don't owe anyone an explanation about video request. You're doing a hell of a job. Thank you, good sir! xx
Bless you brother for allowing this 66 year old great grandma for allowing me to re-live my youth through you vicariously! Stay safe..we're gonna pull through this darn pandemic together!
As a 20 year old, I just bought a Silk Degrees LP from Goodwill today and even though I loved the album anyways, the wax version is NUTS! The little crackling throughout the whole thing makes it so raw - especially on the little piano intro on "We're All Alone." I listened to the whole thing again an hour ago and it felt like it was five minutes per side, it was going so quick and so damn good. I also got BS&T 3, Boz's "Hits!" and Glen Campbell's Greatest Hits - the latter of which I'd love to see him react to. Give him Galveston, Rhinestone Cowboy, and Gentle On My Mind and I think he'd love it.
Jeff Porcaro was the drummer on this and lays down my favorite drum track of his. His dad, Joe Porcaro, mentor and drummer extraordinaire, died yesterday at 90. I had lunch with him a few months back and told him how much I loved Jeff's drumming on this. He told me that he played some percussion on this album too. RIP Joe!!🙏💜
Jeff and David’s groove across this album is just astounding. Where as Lowdown is nasty, this track swings hard. Joe raised a very talented son and must have been proud.
Life can be very strange. I went to Grant high school with the Porcaros, Lukather, I knew them all and met Dad Joe a few times in the garage. Saw Jeff play with Steely Dan before their tour started in 1974, got to meet Becker and Fagan and hang out. With these memories, it's a great time to still be alive.
I loved your face the moment you knew this song. Priceless. Everyone I have ever played this song is almost the same. Thanks for being you. You bring us all joy, in these troubled days
I got to see In CONCERT when I was WORKING as a head usher at the Charlotte Coliseum back in the 70's when he was popular. I was WORKING the show, got off WORKING not long after he stated to playing I found a seat CLOSE to the stage and was able to ENJOY most of the SHOW. IT WAS FANTASTIC . HE HAD A GREAT BACK UP ORCHESTRA AND SINGERS, VERY PROFESSIONAL. SOUNDED JUST LIKE THE RECORD. I WAS BLOWN AWAY. 😉😄😃😁😀😎
I love Boz and this album is one of my all-time favorites. That said Disco is my all-time favorite genre. Disco forever - don't get the hate other than it seems those that can't dance hate the reminder. Peace
I absolutely ADORE the expression on your face when you recognize a song you didn't think you knew. It just makes my day to see it!! Keep 'em comin'!! :D
Yeah, he cracks me up ! Love this guy ! He really needs to have a TV show ! He has the personality the spirit and love for music. And so nice and kind, well spoken. Would love to hang and break bread with this brother from another mother !! If you don't like Jamal, seek help. Something is broken inside. Like to see more with his brothers ! A good bunch of good men.
Boz Skaggs is marked by restraint. Horns just loud enough. Perfect balance between bass and guitar. Sounds great in concert. Instrumental break without a solo, just builds bar by bar... awesome.
Honestly, this feels like a perfect song to me, from the excellently-delivered lyrics to the driving shuffle rhythm to exactly the right amount of keyboards and horns. Every time I hear it I get a little excited because I get to hear it again.
Steve Miller Band is the perfect companion group for Scaggs reactions. Boz and Steve went to high school and college together, and Boz played in his band for a bit. Check it out!
@@nelsonmaud1 That album is one of the great examples of the 60's Blues revival (especially side 2) PLUS fusion with the period's acid rock. I saw the Boz-era Steve Miller Blues Band play at Provo Park in Berkeley around 67 or 68. Boz's later cover of "Somebody Loan Me a Dime" is a classic.
Yes! This is my absolute favorite Boz Scaggs tune. This song is tight, it’s toe tapping, head bobbing, finger snapping sweet ride! I enjoyed watching you enjoy it Jamel. You’re a good dude!
This is my favorite Boz Scaggs song!! It brings back a lot of great memories every time I hear it! I’m supposed to see him live in November! Fingers crossed it still happens!!🤞 😁
Boz Scaggs & Duane Allman...the song is called "Loan Me a Dime" and it is some of the BEST blues you will EVER hear...period. and it has to be THAT version, the two of them.
When I was really young (late 70's/early 80s), I spent a lot of time living with my grandmother. She had a black labrador on her property called Boz Scaggs, so I've always had a soft spot for his songs.
I'm an Philadelphia Eagles fan and at one time, we had a player on our team named Lito Sheppard. Every time he scored a TD, us fans would serenade him with this tune. And the stadium would rock it out as well. Good times and Go Birds💚🦅🏈. Stay safe Jamel😷
this is what I love man. it's when all the sudden that light comes on and then that looks starts then when it hits it's like oh yeah there it is... pause🤣
Dude! This is one of the best songs I have ever heard! I was delighted to see you catch on and this spark in your eyes when you caught on to the chorus! You know your stuff!
In my humble opinion,Lido Shuffle is one of the best songs of the 70s. This brings so many wonderful childhood memories. If I recall correctly,it came out in 1976;I was 8,it was the Bicentennial, and it rocked!
I love when you refer to the artists as Brother (whoever). It always makes me smile, fills my heart with hope for the future when some day please God we will truly remember we are all one human family. Love your content and attitude, Brother Jamel. Btw, your name means beautiful in Arabic, it suits you so well.
From SongFacts.com...Boz Scaggs wrote this song with David Paich, who was also his co-writer on "Lowdown." In our 2013 interview with Scaggs, he talked about how the song came about: "'Lido' was a song that I'd been banging around. And I kind of stole... well, I didn't steal anything. I just took the idea of the shuffle. There was a song that Fats Domino did called 'The Fat Man' that had a kind of driving shuffle beat that I used to play on the piano, and I just started kind of singing along with it. Then I showed it to Paich and he helped me fill it out. It ended up being 'Lido Shuffle.'" The song is about a drifter looking for a big score. Scaggs and Paich were both very good at crafting songs with intriguing storylines using words and phrases that don't often show up in a lyric: "A tombstone bar," "makin' like a beeline..." The name Lido is very unusual as well. From the perspective of songcraft, it's very versatile, allowing the singer to get clear vocal sounds and follow with the "whoa-oh-oh-oh" hook. Kenny Loggins did something similar on his song "Footloose," writing the character "Milo" into it ("Woah... Milo, come on, come on let's go").
I now look forward to listening to you every day! The music you’re playing was MY music back in the day so great memories. I’m a music fanatic and with everything going on in our country you’re a breath of fresh air! Keep on keeping on!
@@Mark-zu6oz Holding my old, yellow Panasonic cassette tape recorder to the speaker of the TV when "Countdown"was on, on a Sunday night to record that week's Top 10.
That's not quite accurate....they were hired studio musicians to play on his Silk Degrees album...not really his band...he was never a member of Toto. That's kind of an important difference.
Actually not every Toto member. Hungate and Mike Porcaro alternate their roles during the period, same for Paich and Steve Porcaro, Les Dudek was also on guitar when Lukather wasn't there.
Wow! I did not know that! David Paich of toto co-wrote invited by Boz on his album. Toto went on to be studio band for Steely Dan, and Michael Jackson as well! Thank you for your comment! It opens up a whole new door of how musicians collaborate to make great music!
Yes. Les Dudek. He put out a solo album around this time frame. I bought it. Really can't recall a single thing about it. But...still love me some Les. Highly talented.
I participated in this era. It was a WONDERFUL era! Wonderful in so many ways. The connection is obvious - it was major at that time and I'm so happy to have been a part of it. I'm happy too, to see you, a man of another era and another race experience the connection. We're all one dude!
I've watched this with you before Jamel but watching it with you again and seeing the complete joy and happiness on your face restores my faith in humanity and goodness!!! Thank you brother for sharing your ride with me....and everybody!
DUDE I was just listening to this the other night. One of my favorites. I listened to this the summer it came out... on a fishing boat in the Long Island Channel!!!! You don't understand, I was just telling my daughters this is likely my very favorite song of all time. Why am I so stunned? I have no idea. But you have excellent taste in music bro.
So many of you will never know the feeling of growing up in the 70s. Songs like this were coming out every week it seemed. Monster hit after monster hit. I remember dancing to this new hit at the 7th grade dance way back then. Today's music cannot compare in any way.
Just saw Boz in concert at the Ryman in Nashville last year. He's just as good as ever! I thought the song was about a gambler running from his debt but always thinking he'll get lucky with one more toss of the dice.
This is one of those albums that EVERYONE had, great from start to finish. And if you had a date at you your place and put this on, she would just melt in your arms. Some REALLY mellow stuff there.
Two songs for you if you have not reacted to them already: “How Long Has This Been Going On” by Ace, and Squeeze’s “Tempted”, both sung by Paul Carrack. The joy and humor in your videos are infectious. Thank you!
Paul Carrack joined Squeeze as a replacement for Jools Holland... yes, the guy who has the music show "Live with Jools Holland" on MTV Live (the old Palladium channel).
Lol.. when we were kids my twin sister was fighting her weight alla time.. shes beautiful and healthy.. but you know young girls... id sing " Tempted by some food in the cupboard.. tempted but that fruit aint for mother... whats been goin on.. your badonka donk.. " along with convincing her she wasn't my twin she was really adopted... poor girl
Yep, he is him and this is that lol! Keep at it Jamal! May I suggest classic Steve Miller Band? "Rock'n Me", "Abracadabra", "Fly like an Eagle" of course... I also agree with the suggestions above/below, Van Morrison, more Peter Gabriel, Kings X "Born To Be Loved" is a tune you'll probably appreciate. Stay safe, we need you now more than ever!
There are several gambling references in there-“pull the handle” and “he’s for the money, he’s for the show” and the idea that the next one will be the big win-“ one more time oughta get it.”
It's about a bagman for the mob, who skimmed a 'handle off the top' to go to Chicago to put down a bet, till he got a letter saying "Toe the line, or, bro..."
As a love struck teenager in the 80’s I used to listen to his song “Heart of Mine.” It’s very mellow and melancholy. Very different from Lido, but still good.
Silk degrees, one of my must have albums. For a different feel listen to ‘we’re all alone’ from the same album. It was a hit for Rita Coolidge who covered it in the mid 70’s but you cannot beat the original and best. Boz co wrote that song and he gives it such soul, a beautiful love song!🥰
Glad you like it. Always been a favorite of mine. That driving groove just picks you up and moves you like an unexpected strong gust of wind. And the lyrics?! Are to die for, for sing a longs! What great times we had singing along to this on the school bus back in the day. One of the songs that drove me to play drums.
The beat , the groove the absolute funkiness of this masterpiece can be largely attributed to drummer Jeff Porcaro and co writer David Paich who later formed Toto.
Boz had some great musicians playing with him over the years. Duane Allman, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Lukather to name a few. More recently a guitar player name Drew Zing who is awesome.
This is my favorite song by Boz Skaggs and I love Breakdown and Lowdown. Thanks Jamal keep on rocking coolest of the cool❤❤Holly 👍👍I thought it was about getting to the next show!! 🤷♀️
When I was young both my mom and dad were dying. One just slightly ahead of the other. At night, when I should have been sleeping, I was listening on my transmitter Bear's helmet to songs. This was my favorite. Who cannot love a name like Boz Scaggs?
This is so much fun watching these videos with your reactions! You’re probably introducing people to this great music for the first time and that is awesome!!! Play some Moody Blues !
My friend and I have this rule. We do not leave the bar or the party until the Lido Shuffle has played because that song is the icing on every party's cake.
