I just had my endoscopy done now and out of recovery room, It lasted for 5 minutes under mild anesthesia that lasted for 5 minutes. No pain, no discomfort, I felt nothing. I only woke up to be told that they were done. I read some people’s experiences here before I went for mine which helped to put my anxiety at rest, and I’m back here to put your fears and anxiety at rest as well. At last you’ll beat yourself up for even worrying at all. God is faithful! You got this!

I just got endoscopy and colonoscopy a few hours ago. The night before I was overthinking about being put to sleep and not waking up. From someone who suffers from anxiety, the experience wasn’t scary! I was really nervous at the hospital and told them about it. But the nurses and doctors provide you with reassurance. I would recommend taking anaesthesia as it calms you down or prevents you from having memories of the process. Don’t overthink about the anaesthesia!! You will surely wake up because it feels like you’re taking a nap. By the time you wake up, there’s barely any discomfort or memories.

Didn’t get it done with this facility but I just got an endoscopy done this afternoon and I’d like to share my experience Incase some of you are freaking out like I was the last week. Everything up until the anesthesia is you’re basic check in and questions so the part that you’ve been dreading doesn’t start right away 😂 once they had me ready they took me back and started the sedation and honestly I didn’t even remember going out. I remember being fully conscious and coherent thinking “I don’t feel a thing “ and then all the sudden I woke up in another room. It’s kinda a surreal experience it was almost like teleportation because that literally how fast that felt . One second i was talking to the doc about the cruise he’s taking next week and all then sudden boom in in another room. Completely painless and all my fears were for nothing . If you’re worried about it or going under anesthesia for the first time like I was , it was a breeze . 0 anxiety once they injected me it was almost instantly that it disappeared. Hope this helped !

Just had this done yesterday! As a strong man who’s not really scared of anything, this shook me. Only because I didn’t know what to expect. But honestly, I would do this again. I didn’t feel anything at all. Upper and lower. Once they put the insert piece for you to bite on, you’re pretty much sleep 4 seconds later. I went under at about 12:15 and Woke up about 12:45 and couldn’t believe how easy this was. Please don’t be scared. It has to be done and it’s super chill!

I've had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done 10 years ago but I avoided doing it for 6 years, any other treatment but these. Eventually I had no other option but to do it. What the heck was I so worried about! As I went in for treatment to get them both done at the same time I lay on the bed they ask me to count back from 10, and within 3 seconds I'm sound asleep, after the procedure I wake up feeling so good, so happy, peaceful. They give me some food and drink and I go home. 🙂

I had an Endoscopy 6 years ago but it was honestly a horrible experience. I don't want to get into the details to avoid scaring anyone but I think its important to talk to your Anesthesiologist/doctor about your concerns. I had my tonsils removed 2 months ago and my Anesthesiologist was so kind and reassured me that I wouldn't wake up this time which thankfully I didn't. My Anesthesiologist said that they were supposed to use a throat numbing spray for my Endoscopy (which they did for my Tonsillectomy) but for some reason they didn't so I think this is also another great thing to ask about. Going back to my Endoscopy, they found bleeding in my stomach and performed surgery a few weeks later. I got much better after that, no issues ever since. I wish the best to whoevers getting an Endoscopy. Its honestly just like going to sleep. You got this :)

The Last time 12 years ago, I had the endoscopy while I was wide awake, I was vomiting profusely in the Theatre in the middle of my procedure also I was vomiting blood and this hasn't stopped about 2 months. I did at the time informed a complaint because what they've did was very dangerous. That is why now I am ever so nervous and worried because the doctor this week threatening me to have one and I have refused.

I explained to the doctor beforehand that I have complex ptsd and am petrified of not being able to breathe or feel like I'm choking so the doc said he would double both meds being used to keep me sedated and calm (midazolam and fentanyl) but I felt it and remember it and am still in shock today at how painful it was.... I literally had one today at another facility. It was so intense and invasive. The sedative was not even through the IV tube before they started. I encouraged not to fight the doctor and to just let him force the tube down my throat. I came here to see if this experience was what should have happened. I’m so saddened this happened to me in this manner, as it certainly doesn’t appear to be the experience that should have occurred

Because i was having anxiety and super nervous, i took it as a chance to run away. Until now did not get it done because of my anxiety. but my gut issue just got worse and I'm scared it could be something serious. And im here checking how others may explain or share the experience. Anesthesia has come a very long way and can be very easily catered to the needs of each individual patient. Sure, it can still happen but is it likely? Very unlikely. I say take the time to learn as much about it as possible so you get comfortable with the idea of going under. Knowledge is power. Best of luck to you!
@JimAllen-Persona

Seriously, no problem. I’ve had 2 of each. The scariest thing was the bite down with the hole in the oxygen mask to pass the tube. As far as the Anesthesia, no problems. They use Propofol to knock you out, and another drug that induces amnesia. They keep a very close eye on you.. I actually got awareness during the procedure and heard them talking about the work they were doing in their backyards. I felt no pain and couldn’t have cared less and when I tried to talk, I woke up after they were wrapping up. It’s very closely monitored. They don’t “knock you out” in that sense. It’s the best sleep you’ll ever have.

@@lisasmith8272 I felt nothing. I was asleep. Even that even I had no discomfort at all. The worst part was the prep. I had a colonoscopy at the same time. I wouldn’t have noticed that they did biopsy’s if the dr hadn’t told us.

If you are not removing polyp then why do you put us under and not twilight?

To cover their backs. If they mess up or say anything inappropriate while we’re under, we won’t know.

No its because if you are not under deep enough and awake during the procedure, it can cause injury while the doctor is performing the procedure

No biggie. They will put you “out” via sedation (I had Propofol & Versed) and you’ll have zero memory of the actual procedure. I remember just prior to the anesthetic and next thing I knew I was conscious & taking to my wife.

Yep, never getting any of these “procedures done “ Way too risky and way to many doctors doing a ton of these a day all at your risk. These soothing videos are so you don’t say no and make the doctors and hospitals rich. Screw them. That consent form screws yoy when the puncture you.
