I love it how the number of people watching it gets smaller with every next video

I don't really get why people were complaining about the approach used in this series. I think it's perfect. But maybe that's just me bc I personally like to lay out the way I want to build up things and connect loose ends afterwards. Welp, whatever Imma continue watching it. Has been gold throughout. PS: Works well even as of UE4 v.4.24

When you do things in this manner, you lose the process of "hmm, I want to do this thing, so what do I need now?" which is more organic. On your own, if you're new you aren't going to be able to say "Ah yes, I want to create a system that tracks where all of the cookies in my world go, so I'll need these 25 variables". Instead you're going to be answering questions like, "How do I tag a specific cookie location?" and then problem solving out what you need. Perhaps if you're a bit more advanced this tutorial will be fine because you've already got the understanding of the process, but as a newbie it takes more leg work to catch up. I'm personally somewhere in-between, I use blueprint for art related functions (material manipulation mostly), so while nodes are not particularly intimidating, I still don't know many of the functions or when to call them. I think I would benefit from more of the "to solve A, let's troubleshoot X, Y, and Z solutions to see the results and pick the best" - even if it is more time intensive. For anyone reading this, CodeLikeMe (youtube channel) does great tutorials in exactly that manner :) .

I understood it with the later videos, and when you want to apply the information to your own/different project. Its just very annoying to see variables popup without any context. You will have to jump between videos all the time hoping that the connection is somewhere there. instead of having a clear topic and then have all thoughts in there.

Declaring all the variables, functions before and then filling them later has made it very lengthy and confusing.

Yeah, I can see how it would be confusing. Even though this isn't confusing for me, I do find it counterproductive and boring. I'd rather have videos where some good, logical progression was made in each video.

I think it makes sense as the variables are the foundation of the game. I'd rather boring but logical/professional, than interesting but ultimately a hacky amateurish approach.

I know this video is a few versions of the editor old at this point, but it's relevant to the thing I want to prototype and I'm running into an issue: At the points where you link sound files from the Content Browser to the Ambient Audio variables on the tracker... I just can't. I have the audio files imported into the project, but the drop-down search doesn't detect them and if I try to drag-and-drop the audio from the Content Browser directly onto the variable it doesn't work (I get a red box around the variable, indicating something is wrong) The Editor will play the audio just fine, and I can drop them into the level directly and that seems fine. I just can't link them to the Ambient Audio variable on the Tracker Blueprint. This same thing happens when I try to add the current checkpoint to the Checkpoints array. Drop-down search finds nothing, drag-and-drop produces no result (except that same red box). I'm led to believe something about how these variables are linked to files in the Content Browser has changed since v4.8, but it's a frustrating problem to search for. Odds are not great that i'll get a response on a two-year old video but... maybe? Thanks.

Right click on the audio in your content browser and click create sound cue then drag the sound cue into level. You should be able to find it.

When automating the array order, could you not just add a checkpoint ID value to the checkpoint and the get them and sort them using core algos based on ID as predicate?
