Bruges is the capital of West Flanders in northwestern Belgium. Characteristic are the canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings of the city. The associated port of Zeebrugge is an important center for fishing and European trade. The 14C Stadhuis (Town Hall) on Burgplatz has an intricately carved ceiling. A 13th-century belfry with a carillon of 47 bells stands on the nearby market square. The 83 m high tower offers a panoramic view.
