BR Blues - Part 1 of 4
From the mid 1960s through to the 1980s, 'rail blue' became the corporate identity of British Rail. To some, this livery became the norm and fondly remembered by enthusiasts but to others it represented a modern scene at odds with their golden era of steam locomotives. This video explores the various memories associated with such an era and reminisces with those who remember the time well.

BR Blue is the only BR to me. Mind, I was born in '72 and have wonderful memories of taking charter "holiday camp" express trains from Newcastle to Butlins at Filey and Skegness; all hauled by the stunning Deltic Class 55s. When I see BR green locos and stock it just doesn't feel real to me. Like something from a time I never experiences (because I wasn't born!).

when I was little everything was blue. Living in Doncaster with the ECML visible from the bedroom window was a Joy. My brother and I saw our 1st HST set from that bedroom window. I'm 50 now. I was in Sheffield a few weeks ago and a Banana Yellow hst came through. Brought a smile to my face

Great to hear the various memories. The 2-tone green 47 interloper made me smile, as did the Hymek & Western.

Excellent bit of footage.. different world back then for sure.... everything in BR blue. Interesting to hear that you could still see some greens around... that was before my time.. Great bit of commentary too! Good old days for sure, deep sigh. 😒

Nice video. Look forward to more, as this was very much my era. Faves were the Westerns, as they were disappearing, and the Deltics, because they were common to my area on the ECML. Brush 4s and 2s were rather routine, as were the usual form of local transport, the Cravens class 105/106.

The 1970s footage brings back many childhood memories. My thought on the BR blue era is that although the livery itself got monotonous, the sheer variety of motive power and DMUs gave plenty of interest for us enthusiasts

Great film. The clip of the 47 on single track looked like the Green Lane Gretna Road area of Coventry along the Coventry to Leamington route?
