BRITISH RAILWAYS IN THE 1990's
Clapham Junction Station and Yard on 15th November 1990
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of Clapham Junction Station taken on 15/11/1990. Captured from the Down Windsor Platform, this location offers a good vantage point of the yard. This being the busiest station on the network does not fail to live up to it's reputation in this almost again unedited state. A couple of surprise visits of interest are seen. This video wraps it up for this year (1990) apart from the short visited clips to follow very soon. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.

ahhhhh super super lovely…that VEP leaving at around 17mins into the video..driver looking out…me? i’d be giving the cameraman a big ole wave and an “AWIGHT SON!!!” i love this film..the skids of those slam doors always are with me. i used to kip over at my nan and Grandads in new malden back in the late 70s early 80s and i used to lay in bed quite late in the eve and i could she’s that familiar sounds of those wheels over in the distance near berrylands and know that the next day i’m would be over there getting in those trains for my trip out for the day. still very much there. i really never gave in liking those horrendous single headlights all the older stock had fitted around 1990/1…yea they were a safety standard requirement..but yuk..just got in the way of the look of those cab fronts..i know it seems superficial but much prefer those gangway doors left as they originally were. still never changed my love for all the older rolling stock. keep em coming chap…brilliant. so so sooooo glad this material and footage is still here..🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

The class 47/73/33 combo at the start was a channel tunnel test train. The intercity liveried 33 (re numbered 83301) was fitted with Eurostar bogies and was semi-permanently coupled to and provided traction power to the 73. I believe it operated between Waterloo and Eastleigh to test 3rd rail current collection with the Eurostar bogies. A rare sight indeed!
