Nice to see my old home town (Porth) with a steam train running through it. I moved away in 1989, so I missed this. Thanks for posting.

Spectacular video, Bob. That was an epic shot at Trehafod, with the train appearing from behind the winding wheels at the old mine. Fabulous panning.....

As ever, some outstanding shots taken at THE best vantage points. Brought back some memories to me, as I was lucky enough to take a train from Bridgend to Cardiff via Maesteg, Cymmer Afan, Treherbert, and the TVR line down to Cardiff. I think it was 1964 or so. I recall the single car train was packed with miners returning to the Rhondda from their jobs at the Maesteg collieries. Later on I attended day release courses at Glam Poly at Trefforest, when with a bit of research on the timetables, I managed to get runs up to Merthyr and Rhymney before returning home Turkland. Keep up the good work!!

I often used Treforest Estate station when working at Upper Boat power station but never saw any steam there, so it was great to watch your capture of this event. I was amazed at the huge crowds of people who turned out to see the train, many of whom were putting themselves in rather risky (and illegal) positions. Wow great video!!! I was at some of these locations with my Dad. Really nice to see all the hot clutch merchants, as my dad used to call all the guys running like mad to jump back in their cars to catch the train again further up the line.

thanks for that, it just shows how many people will come out to see steam,imagine it when they get some of the New Build tanks up and running. Some good sounds even the old clickity clack on the old rail joints

Some more smashing shots ,,,,,,,, Cor it must be 52 /53 years since I was at Barry docks ,,,, and I still remember the scrap yard row after row of sad rusting and rooting locos,,,,, As she comes past Trehafod Colliery (You have some funny names down there) Is that someone filming her from an open top car,,,, there was a cameraman on the footplate as well I bet its on video /dvd ,,,, I suppose the colliery is long gone now ,,I bet there was a lovely stationary steam winding engine next to the chimney ,,,,, , Ever thought of doing a compilation of before and after shots of some of the lovely vantage points and locations ,,,,, Cheers and thanks ,,,,, Alan

that is a good video of a train going thrugh the coal mining towns of wales Bob, they looked like a good loco for any type of work,, no wonder they were called the BR standard class.

Hope they bring steam back sometime in the future. Matt

Excellent work Bob. As you say, probably not an event that is likely to be repeated, especially with electrification on the horizon. Can't see that much coverage of the celebrations on here, so you may be interested enough to view more footage that I posted a few days ago ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SuwPoKJrm3M.html which is my attempt at capturing the occasion all those years ago. After a good deal of location preparation, I ended up capturing 90mins of video, but I have posted a heavily edited 30 mins version. Thanks for posting, it is interesting to see another angle on the event after all this time - 23 years ago would you believe!
