This video will show you how to do a Brachialis Release for Arm Pain. The Brachialis muscle is a very strong flexor of the arm. This muscle attaches from the humerus bone to the ulna bone (elbow) and is located underneath the bicep muscle. Muscles can get injured if there is too much use, if it is too weak, or if muscles do not glide or slide properly past each other. In this case of arm and elbow pain, the Brachialis muscle is often affected.
To help release the pain within the arm and elbow you may need to do a few things. First, keep in mind that the pain you have may not actually be the site or cause. This means that just because you are having pain here, it does not mean it is the actual reason why. You must look at the cause of the pain and understand why the pain is occurring in the first place.
If you determine that this muscle needs to be released you will likely have to do a few things. First, since the bicep muscle lays on top, it is important to know that you likely have to release this muscle first before moving forward. The bicep muscle attaches all the way up into the shoulder and shoulder girdle. In addition, both the Bicep and Brachialis attach to the forearm area and thus, it will benefit you to release both areas above and below.
To actually release the Brachialis, be sure to push the Bicep out of the way so that you may get to the Brahcials muscle. In addition, you will want to make sure you work on both the lateral and medial aspects but you may notice that one side of the muscle is more tense, tender, and stiff. Continue to work that area out. To continue releasing this muscle, you need to start in the flexed state, then go to the lengthened state of the muscle by extending it. To add some additional stretch to (fascial stretch) at the end of the movement you will want to extend the wrist. This will draw the tension downward and while you maintain your tension and contact, it will help to release both muscles respectively to each other.
Many people having these issues will be found in those who do a lot of elbow flexion, extension, shoulder movements, and forearm movements. You can and will often find this in someone who does a lot of lifting, elbow flexion, push-ups, etc.

Holy shit!!! This is amazing. You're not just a medical professional, you're a magician. My tendon feels much better from just doing this for a few minutes. Thank you so much!!!! How often and or long should I do this? Do I just do it when I have the pain or can I do every day, like a preventive measure? Man! I've watched what feels like hundreds of RU-vid videos trying to find a solution and this is the only one that actually helps. Thank you!!!!

Wow John I am glad you got a lot out of this! I would say do it 2-3X a week at first and then taper off to once per week and then every other week for prevention. Yes I know the feeling! There are a lot of helpful videos out there but I am glad this one did the trick! Enjoy

This has been the best way I have found to massage the brachilis. I was using a theracane and every time I was using it I was feeling a discomfort right where the pronator teres is, which I suppose is almost the location of the brachilis tendon. But now with this technique I can access the muscle without pulling the tendon or other muscles and creating discomfort. I have been feeling better in that area so I'll keep doing it as well as eccentrics

This is a great technique for helping relieve my pain. I just wish people who make these videos would demonstrate exercises for which these muscles are activated. My right brachialis suddenly got sore. When by upper and lower arms became 90 degrees from each other during pull-ups, it hurt so bad I couldn't even do one. It also hurts when I rotate my palm from neutral to up.
@DrJoshJagoda
@DrJoshJagoda 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching. When you say you want them demonstrated for which are activated you are saying that you would like to know a rehab exercise that exercises this muscle? Sounds like you may also have to clear the bicep since it hurts with rotation of the hand/palm.

Just subscribed. I have been suffering from Tennis Elbow since March. I did PT and I think I have resolved the tennis elbow issue. However, there is still tightness in the area. I have been working on releasing tricep tightness, but the brachialis tension remains. I think this might be the answer to my prayers. For the first time in months, I have the ability to flex my biceps without noticeable pain. Thanks for the info.

OMG THANK YOU !! THANK YOU !!! For the last five days after a terrifying workout my brachialis and lower bicep are sore, and tight all the time. I can't do anything because of the huge pain coming from this zone in both my arms. More than 90 degrees elbow extension is impossible, because of the brachialis being tensed with pain all the time. And it happens that I find this video and try to push as you are showing, I only tried the outside push and I was so happy to extend my are easily without pain. Now I will continue doing this all day ! Thank you once again !

@@DrJoshJagoda have an mri scheduled for Monday. The distal bicep tendon isn’t completely torn as you can still do the hook test, but it’s definitely mushy. My bicep is curled up oddly on the inside also. Doc speculates I may have torn the actual muscle body as well as some of the distal tendon hence the mri to confirm. An odd symptom I’ve been having is some seemingly associated nausea. It’s the damndest thing but after my arm has been stationary for a time via a sling or sleeping when I start moving it again I get incredibly nauseous and have thrown up a couple times. Not taking anything that would make me sick and not coming down with anything otherwise I feel fine. Ever heard of that being associated? I did the elliptical machine the other day and both feet went numb so I stopped, after I stopped moderately severe nausea 🤷🏻‍♂️

wow instant relief!. i thought it was golfers elbow because it was on the inner side causing me issues above the elbow. amazing technique! thank you! will this fix the problem completely? I first noticed this problem not from lifting qeight but after treating my extreeeemmmely tight and knotted forearms from 15 years of landscaping . i used the Armaid and stretching on my forearms.. which worked wonders.. but then developed this issue.. any thoughts why this occured ?
@DrJoshJagoda
@DrJoshJagoda 5 лет назад
Awesome to hear it worked! Any muscle that is overused and is overly tight can create poor movement patterns, cause pain, and affect surrounding structures. It sounds like the accumulation of all this tissue trauma is what happened. I don't think the Armaid did this to you since it helped but as I mentioned other areas were likely affected as well.

Awesome video. Was trying to figure out if it was my biceps long head or brachialis which is too tight when stretching chest and UEs in supine over foam roller. I have multiple tender spots, but decreased tightness after one try. Assuming it is too much phone time with elbows flexed and sleeping with elbows Flexed that's causing the tightness. I've already been using the right medial trigger point to decrease pain in Palm at base of thumb, didn't realize it was the brachialis. Thanks again now I need to get off my phone.

It could definitely help. They call it a cho pat strap strap but it does not address the cause of the problem. It just takes away some pain and irritation of the symptoms.

@DrJoshJagoda
@DrJoshJagoda 5 лет назад
You likely hit the nerve. I would let it rest for at least a couple days and if you go back and retry it, you need to use less pressure. Harder is not always better. Try to avoid the nerve and if that still does not clear up you may want to see a professional.

Thanks for your response. I was a competition tennis player and 4 years ago it started the pain. I quit tennis and now i´m a climber and the pain in that area doesn´t allow me to continue climbing..I quit almost 5 months and now the pain started again.. I know it has to be tondosis problem but not sure which strenghtening exercises are the best. If you have that videos can you give me the link please..

Andrés Felipe Crespo Echeverri That is very common in tennis players! You’ll need to have some soft tissue done on the forearm flexor group

Is it possible that the brachialis pain can happen from arm wrestling? I'm finding it difficult and worried that the exercise mentioned may worsen the pain.
@DrJoshJagoda

Yes this can definitely be an issue. Also, the elbow joint and ligaments associated can be part of the problem.

It can help short term and long term if this is the true cause of the pain. If this is the symptom, then it will likely be temporary.
