The first time I heard Brad was the paranoid android piano improv. It blew me the fuck away. Then I heard the trio. Knives out, Blackhole sun, Exit Music, and eventually all the rest. Each time I heard him play I learned something new about myself and about music. Each time I was blown away and thought to myself, this man is a musical genius. Now i've watched this Doc and I'm again blown away yet again. Thank you Brad, Thank you.
Friend of mine met Brad at Molde jazz festival in Norway some time ago and talked with him and said me, that he is very kind and enthusiastic..You have maybe your personal problem with selfconfident and intelligent people like Brad, but for this kind of music-and forgive me, but I think for everything!-are these qualities absolutely necessary...
He's so full of it... he doesn't REALLY get lost. I've heard him do the most difficult syncopating in those odd meters on SOLO PIANO!!!! I always count just to "check him" and he ALWAYS comes back eventually as if he knew all along... and ITS JUST HIM!! I believe her gets lost on purpose for the effect of freedom at times.
I didn't know he was a smoker...Also, w/ all due respect, I don't hear The Beatles harmonies, as much as I hear their melodies:you can sing most of them w/o any chordal comping and you can hear a tune, going somewhere, the cadences, that is many of them don't really need the changes underneath- they're just really good melodies. But what do I know?
Is it possible to lose time on purpose? Isnt that like learning how to NOT read a text, or ride a bike or cook pasta? I get the feeling that he gives up counting and totaly relying on his intuition. Intuition doesnt care for rules, its just reactions. The more you learn, the more you fill your self with stuff you learn, the purer the intuition. Music is pure. Best, Sandemose

Also, judging from that casiotone jam, if he ever did an '80s techno jazz Cd it would still the kick ass.
