I'm torn. This rendition of Nick Drake's composition, I find, is best experienced with my eyes closed and yet watching these cats is like actually witnessing Picasso paint. The perfect dilemma...
Amen to that. I feel the same way about the new trio with Jeff ballard. That is my favorite trio I'd have to say. Brad and his guys are taking the music to another level not yet seen or heard. We are blessed to be witnessing it in out time. Peace, Teddy
Betty came by on her way Said she had a word to say 'Bout things today And fallen leaves Said she hadn't heard the news Hadn't had the time to choose A way to lose But she believes [Chorus] Gonna see the river man Gonna tell him all I can About the plan For lilac time If he tells me all he knows 'Bout the way his river flows And all night shows In summertime [Verse 2] Betty said she prayed today For the sky to blow away Or, maybe stay She wasn't sure For when she thought of summer rain Calling for her mind again She lost the pain And stayed for more [Chorus] Gonna see the river man Gonna tell him all I can About the ban On feeling free If he tells me all he knows 'Bout the way his river flows I don't suppose It's meant for me [Outro] Oh, how they come and go Oh... how they come, go
Oh geez, you’re right. Serves me right for being so eager to point out a “mistake.” In my defense, I had just watched a Julian Lage/Jorge Roeder video. :)
Nice interpretation of one of Nick Drake's best songs. With respect to Brad Meldau, he's better listened to than watched. Besides, Bill Evans has already been done.
Super video. Thanks. I saw Grenadier & Ballard last week with Mark Turner as the 'Fly Trio'. Incredible music making. If you have a chance to see them do so.
@ArseneWengerIsGod i think you need to understand who nick drake actually is before ever thinking his fans could ever get 'pissed off'' hah. lovely version by mehldau
You know, I understand about getting into the music, but the piano player is just being a poseur. C'mon, it's just a fucking song. Some singing would have been nice too as the song has a brilliant lyric. I wanted to really like it, but I don't.
Brad Mehldau is not a poser. He always plays from the heart and has no reason to do otherwise. You must not be at familiar with his music to say such a thing. He is the real deal and picked this song to play because he loves it. He bears his heart and soul every time he plays.
