Because he has soul in his music. Most of modern Nashville is trying to convert Country into Pop, and it's awful. The only new modern country artists that preserve the country genre that I'd listen to are Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, and Jon Pardi. Everyone else, I hear one clap or a cliché lyric from the laundry basket of country lyrics, I'm changing the radio. Brad, keep doing what your doing. You're influencing a new generation of musicians (me included,) into the true country genre. And your guitar playing makes me push myself to play more guitar as you have inspired me for the last 3 years. You are a musical hero. Don't stop doing what you love. 🤠🎸🤘
@Brad Paisley Since a few years. In my younger days I loved country music and CCR. I saw you with John Fogerty. Fantastic. I´m from germany and in the radio country music is not famous. My nephew worked for 5 years in Atlanta and he brought me a video from a concert of you.
@Colejames00 Yep--he does mainly use McVay's but, in more recent years, he's also used some Glaser stringbenders as well. That is, according to an interview of his in Guitar Player Magazine back in early 2009.
@MatthewsVideo According to Paisley in an interview with Guitar Player Magazine, he does own some guitars with B-Benders but, yeah--he doesn't use them. Also, I think some of his guitars also have Glaser G-Benders now, though I'm not sure if that's the right name for the brand...I believe it's something like that though.
He had Joe Glaser install one of his G-benders on his '68 Pink Paisley, even though Joe tried to talk him out of that. After that, he had Charlie McVay install his Benders on all of his guitars. He would have Bill Crook build them, then Bill would send it on to Charlie.
@slash129 no, he forgot (?) to switch guitars the one he was playing he was trying (and doing a good job of it) to compensate because it wasnt tuned in the key of the song.
One of the strings may have been a little out, but both Teles were tuned standard. Chad Weaver may have wanted him to switch for some reason. Maybe he noticed a problem, or he knows that Brad prefers that particular Tele. Brad seemed s little surprised to see Chad bring him the other guitar. Both guitars were tuned standard, both had G-benders, and there were no strings broken.
@nagasama75 Sorry, that explanation doesn't hold water. The song prior to "Alcohol" was in "A", and "Alcohol" is in "B". Both guitars are in standard tuning with no "Drop D" or open tuning. I'm not sure what the issue was, unless he just wanted that particular guitar, or maybe there was an issue with the wireless unit, such as low battery, etc.
The song prior to 'Alcohol' was 'Ticks', in the key of E, even though he ended the song on the A chord. You are correct, there could not be a Drop D for a song in E.
No, the reason that he switched guitars at the first of this song is because the last song used a "B-Bender" Telecaster, and Alcohol doesn't. So he switched them about because he got started out with the wrong guitar. Plus the other one sounded like the Low E string was a little flat.
How come the clapping on the start of different songs is exactly the same? Is this staged up and is he play backing a studio recording?? Anyway great music.
@EclecticGuitarists: You are poorly informed, that is, both of those guitars have G-benders. I think the best explanation is that Brad is particular about tone and each of those guitars are quite different tonally. As well, Brad is a hell of an entertainer, so running from the end of one song into the beginning of another is a crowd-pleaser. Put those two things together and you get what happens in this performance.
Reese Nemeth Thank you! As well, Brad's website back in the day had detailed listings of the guitars, amps, and effects he used on each track of each album. And the 52-ish telecaster is the one he even used in the studio--the same one in the music video. Sadly, the guitar was lost in the Nashville flood, yet the store from which he purchased the initial telecaster had another--same in looks and sound, yet the neck was slightly thinner. The guitar tech worked up a similar pickguard.
