Dogs fan here. Been to plenty of bombers games (close mates and my partner are bombers fans) the attendance even though there bad times was incredible!
Have never liked Brad Scott in the past but he has become more mature as a coach and more a thinker now than a ranter. What he is doing at Essendon is what that club has been seeking for best part of 20 years. Always considered Chris a much better coach but brad and Chris are leading the pack at the moment and Brad might even be slightly ahead but who could seperate them now.
Eddie McGuire good to see essendon crowds come back this season?talking like we didnt show up last season we had 1.1 million fans attend our games last season and we finished 11th Collingwood had 1.3 million in a year they won the flag and play 90% of their games at the MCG
When these decisions are being made & changes in the decision-making are being introduced, should the umpires be introduced to each team to educate the players as to these changes? Perhaps have a bunch of trainers that include the training of new decision changes as part of their job description. This would avoid shock decisions that become evident after 3 or 4 games which impact the results for those games. I also wonder if updating the specifics of rules shouldn't be made with every club before the start of the new season rather than players finding out during a game.
Thank god he didn't say "The one thing I want is consistency." At the beginning of last night's game (Collingwood-Bulldogs), the umps were hot on holding the ball. Like, really hot. The commentators were all "Well as long as they're consistent..." They might be, but when the heat's on in the last quarter, in a forward 50 in a tight match, you know that consistency will not be maintained. It's basically impossible. More whistles = less consistency.
Front on spoils like the Maynard vs Bradshaw incident need to be outlawed. That style of spoiling is not effectively spoiling the ball it is more so spoiling the player which according to the rules is illegal. It’s not really in the rules of an effective spoil of the ball. Entering into a contested ball with the flight of the ball against someone against the flight to be outlawed.
the umpires have caused this when players a sling tackled and concussed the players when tackled why does it take till rd11 someone to wake up and tell the umpires to blow the whistle for the htb decisions and don’t wait for a player to get concussed or hurt in a tackle that’s just very poor umpiring hesitation not blowing the whistle for the htb
Scott is wrong about the rules with prior opportunity. The player, who has had prior, must get rid of the ball 'immediately' when tackled. Scott says if a player who has had prior is tackled then it is a free, which is wrong. They still have the ability to immediately dispose of it when tackled according to the rules. Here is the exact rule from the AFL rule book 2024. 18.6.2 Free Kicks - Holding the Ball: Prior Opportunity Where a Player in Possession of the Football has had Prior Opportunity, a field Umpire shall award a Free Kick if that Player does not Correctly Dispose of the football immediately when they are Legally Tackled.
Hadn't seen the Harry Jones tackle yet. Don't know why a week for that was seen as controversial, or why Essendon would've considered appealing. Sicily got 3 for precisely the same thing, with a worse outcome. Take the week and run.
I dont know why this became difficult. If you got tackled the same time you recieved the ball, you had no prior, so it was a ball up. Everything else, ergo, you take ONE step, and that is your prior.. so its BALL!! I mean, 12 year old kids in 1977 knew what prior oppurtunity was, and now 50 years later AFL umpires dont???
Wasn't very keen on BS ( Brad Scott ) coaching the Bombers when he was announced as coach . However l have 2 eat humble pie 🥧 & say a gr8 turn around 4 our club . Would ❤ 2 see our stat's improve outta site B4 the finals. . Lowest % in the top 8 . Needs fixing asap 😅
@bhansen9468 Well we keep on winning with Crap Stats . So if we can improve them each week by the end of the end of the Home 🏡 & Away Season we will be Flying . Obviously Ur a Pies or Blues supporter The Competition is Close this season. Just goes 2 show that we can still find a way 2 Win while not firing everywhere . What does that say about the Rest ???
Dumbest comment ive seen! congrats! hows it a boys club when its more diverse than ever? secondly betting agencies are not allowed affiliations with Afl teams?
The umpires are quickly becomming the stars of the game. It's WWE or WWF or RAW. players need to be tougher like NRL. Too many umpires and too many rules.
Players need more awareness. Then we could get rid of stupid free's. It's getting ridiculous and I probably sound ridiculous. We make all these stupid rules and yet, players still get i njured, Concussed, Knocked out, what's the piont?
"competitive balance" equals NFL small competition between 4 sides times two 16 team conferences....no NFL side starts a year without a hope and more of playing in their post season playoffs (our finals), ...obviously they have 32 teams we have 19 soon twenty ...start now ...Lions Swans Giants - North Essendon Footscray - St Kilda Richmond Collingwood ...the last 3 or 4 take some tweaking ...it is the answer ...the 6 winners and two best records after are in the eight ...build from that ...all of a sudden North only have to beat two sides to be in finals and the inter division rivalry becomes immense....anyway I see no other answer ...
Got to love a new rule interpret round. Just get rid of the rule, :"the league can interprite based on the skill of the players, as see fit" especially when the game is cetralised, and played nationallly. The players play outside the rules to get advantage, the umpires need to enforce the rules, the players sling and hold arms because the umpires are instructed not to pay the tacke but to ball up. Just more group think. The umpires got in each other's way thursday night,, two umpires standing 20 metres apart, one calls play on the other gives a free to the forward. 35k people boo. Not a good look, the umpires need to do better
The game should not go any faster. Speed = concussions Slow the game down so players tire. Then space opens up on the field and we get more 1v1's, which makes for better watching.
@@StuTheDon17 Nah slowing the game means more congestion and more stoppages and all the players around the ball. Thats why they brought in the 666 rule and standing on the mark. We would not need all that if players are pinged for holding the ball. The need to pay holding the ball every time. When a player gets tackled, he must immediately handpass or kick or its holding the ball. When this happens players will stop going to ground, and forcing stoppages. It will force players to spread and open up the game.
a 150 year old game and they still don't know the rules. They change every week. What a total garbage sport. No wonder Essendon are doing so well, their coach knows most of the rules coz he wrote em. What a joke.
Prior is the dumbest rule in the game. You either knock it on or attempt to take possession. Prior Rewards zero awareness players which makes the game awful to watch. It’s just men running around out there, the difference in technical ability is woeful to watch now. The greatest players have always been the ones that just seem like they had eyes on the back of their heads.
I think this is going to to be a slow incremental evolution of the rules, and at the end of it the game will look very different than it traditionally has.
Now there’s going to be 100 free kicks a game 🤦♀️ Clearly the rule that needs to be changed is the dangerous tackle rule. You can’t be giving free kicks and suspensions for the dangerous tackle when every week a bloke cops a knee in the back of the head in a marking contest and gets concussed but it’s completely within the rules
Why not make the rules clear. If a player is being tackled they can only hand ball the ball (No kicking) If the tacklers is good enough to pin the arm of a ball carrier then that is a perfect tackle and should be rewarded holding the ball, If there is prior opportunity. Players trying to kick while being tackled is what causes the player to fall to the ground without any support. Aka naughts tackle is a prime example of a player trying to kick when pinned which could lead to serious injury or just as easily concussion.
