Superb performance - a little overly detailed in the finale (this is Brahms). But a much better performance overall with plenty of life and depth (up until the fourth movement), unlike those of much better known orchestras and conductors. We are lucky to have a performance today at this level given what is typical for this commonly performed work today.

The RFO is an extraordinary orchestra, playing a wide range of music: the classical repertoire, lot of contemporary pieces and several world premieres every season, opera. And often with exciting and famous conductors: Haitink, Van Zweden, De Waart and more. Yesterday Karina Canellakis premiered as the new chief conductor.
