Not a month goes by when I don't listen to at least one of the Braid soundtracks. Excited to return to this. The original release holds a special, nostalgic place in my heart.
Really looking forward to playing it! I've been watching your programming videos since forever and remember fondly playing Braid way back in the beginning of the Indie Era when I started my game development journey. It's awesome to see this game getting a much deserved facelift and I wish you all the best with it!
It's been so long since the original announcement, I was starting to think I somehow missed the release. This looks great, Jonathan and team! I'm especially excited about the commentary, the improved visuals are just icing on the cake.
Yeah, I was surprised there doesn't appear to be a Switch version coming out. Will it be coming out on a different date or is no Switch version in the works?
I can't wait! The commentary is also a very nice idea, it was sure I was gonna get Braid AE, but now I'm really excited about the release :) I take the opportunity to say Jonathan Blow that you are, sir, a huge inspiration for me, not just as a developer/creator, but also regarding your more philosophical talks about software dev in general. Thanks for that!
Thank you for your work Jblow. I discovered your work pretty recently through The Witness. I haven't played Braid yet but I've promised myself to do so ever since. This sounds like a good excuse.
This is one of the most memorable games I have ever played, as well as one of the most beautiful in both visuals and music. Thank you for not only creating this Jon, but sharing it with all of us. I could never thank you enough for the experience that this work of art has allowed me to have. I only have one ques. Will this game have a physical release at all? If it is at all possible I would love to have a copy of this game in my possesion for as long as I live. Breathtaking and one of the reasons I still own my 360 hard drive to this day.
Completed and loved this on x360, going to get this for the commentaries! The main problem with braid and the witness is that you can’t erase your memory and experience them again for the first time.
Bit gutted you don't have Mac on the list of platforms, but that being said, I'll be buying on at least 3 of the platforms you are releasing on. Really looking forward to this!
Wait, is there not going to be a macOS release of the game? I really hoped that I could also partake by buying a copy, but I don't want to struggle with VMs again... Not trying to make it sound easy, but I thought that the whole idea of Jai was to have enough expressive power to target all platforms (within reason) somewhat easily. Any chance of getting that later on?
Braid AE is not written in jai (Jon uses it for his third game). And if there had been, it’s hard to say how much the release might have been delayed, because at the moment, macos support lags behind linux and, even more so, windows (as far as I can judge from messages in the beta discord, since I haven’t tried to compile for a Mac myself). Anyway, there is progress, including on more specific platforms (wasm, android, ios, vr)
00:37 pretty sure at some point in history the chinese started to use cheap styrofoam snow that looks not as good as what they used to use for snow globes before
You don't have to buy it, of course. :) I agree for some games it's more-or-less a shameless money-grab, but here they're adding real value. Those updated graphics look quite expensive to make, and the commentary is completely new. Perhaps some people don't care about the commentary, and that's fine, but for me personally, the commentary alone justifies the cost of buying the game a second time.
@@androxilogin Never said the original did not look fine. Nobody is forcing you to buy it. Also, how exactly does the existence of an anniversary edition 'devalue' the original? They're not stocks.
Release date change: "Braid, Anniversary Edition will be released on May 14, 2024, for Windows, PlayStation, and on iOS and Android for Netflix subscribers; it'll be released on May 15 on Xbox (the only reason for the extra day here is just that the Xbox store refreshes on Wednesdays)."
I remember playing Braid at university on my Mac, absolutely loving it then having a string of assigments that made me begrudingly put it down right near the end. I actually never finished it but as soon as this was announced I instantly pre purchased. It will be fun to go back and close that loop with dev commenatry. Also the Witness is probably my favourite game alongside Portal 2, I can't wait to see what new project you are cooking up after this!
>More than 9 pixels for every pixel in the original game. If the original was 720p(is it?), and 4K is 9 times the pixel count of 720p, is this targeting higher than 4K?
Is the artist from "A Lesson Is Learned But The Damage Is Irreversible" back for this? Loved the comic, braid was a perfect match up between blow and this other dude.
