Did you know that brain fog is common in perimenopause? What other questions remain?

The has been the absolute worst symptom for me. It’s cruel because this is the time in my life where I’m busiest with my career and need to be on top of my game. I feel like I all of the cannot make decisions, forget names and words, experience executive dysfunction, feel easily overwhelmed, ruminate over everything, etc. It feels like I’m suffering from early dementia, ADHD, anxiety and depression all at once!

Same here, I'm 48. The birth control pill helped me, but I was very surprised to find myself in this situation suddenly. I always have been confortable working with my brain, doing more things in parallel and remembering things. I was like transformed into a 30 years older version of me.

Excellent video. Starting on HRT less than 2 months ago has drastically improved my insomnia which has improved my fog brain. I was having 1-2 full blown night sweats every night and now they are gone. I have not slept well in 4 years. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.

My main brain problem is feeling like I have brain overload. (56yrs peri) Doing a simple trip to the shop, especially if I'm concentrating on choosing something, my brain feels fried and kinda hurts. It leads to a headache and I need to lie down. My GP doesn't get it and has done all the regular tests but I've stopped mentioning it. Would love to know if anyone else gets this.

I would also ask your doctor to run labs to check for iron deficiency and a full thyroid panel, because low thyroid or low iron can cause brain fog and fatigue and both are pretty common conditions.

Excellent video. And, yes, you are right too little research has been done on estrogen and progesterone deficiency in women. Question: Why do doctors, scientists and researchers continue to refer to menopause as a natural process that does not require intervention? The truth is that while the female will become estrogen deficient if we live long enough to outlive our ovarian eggs, it IS a Hormone Deficiency stage where estrogen & progesterone drop off a cliff and the shock and deficiency negatively impacts every single body system in the body. Menopause for many is debilitating..DEBILITATING! If men had an abrupt drop off of Testosterone, they would see. It infuriates me. I went from a productive RN to not being able to do my job or manage my home chores.

Why does the medical community only care to learn about childbearing years but don’t continue their education onto peri menopause & menopausal years? Why is there such a lack of education in this?! Why do they give the quick fixes to say oh it’s depression or take HRT. Why are there no new alternatives out there?

Question #2: Does menopause mark the change from the anabolic (building up) state of life to the catabolic (breaking down) state of life? My labs have demonstrate this is true and even with HRT I show no evidence of getting back to an anabolic state. To me as a citizen scientist, this seems to indicate that menopause is the beginning of the dying process. I'm angered that my nursing textbooks only taught me 2 lines about menopause: 1) "Menopause is 12 months without a period and ends a women's reproductive years. Some women experience symptoms like hot flashes. " No wonder I was so unprepared for what was happening and oh, how millions of women were not treated correctly when they would come into the hospital with palpitations, sweating, anxiety,, forgetfulness,, migraines, etc, etc, etc. I'm angry with the medical community.

Why do they call it menopause when peri menopause is the change leading up to menopause. They interchange the words which are completely different.

I wish my gynecologist would watch this video. My psychiatrist suggested my cognitive and mood symptoms could be partly due to perimenopause and suggested that I book an appointment with my obgyn. So I did. And she accused my psych of being a sexist for suggesting that changes in female sex hormones could cause cognitive or mood problems and acted extremely irritated with me for even showing up to ask her about it.

Definitely thought I had early dementia at age 36. After the covid vaccine my brain shut down, my anxiety spiked, insomnia depression. Etc. Now I realize they are all perimenopause symptoms but I wonder if the vaccine triggered it? Plus hair thinning, weight gain, low libido, cycle changes

You want to know which women do far better than all the other women who go the standard HRT route? Women who ramp up both progesterone and testosterone FIRST before adding Estradiol IF NEEDED. PROGESTERONE & TESTOSTERONE are game changers if done before ESTRADIOL ( IF NEEDED) SORRY DR. HIRSCH. YOU NEED TO GET UP TO SPEED ON WHAT ACTUALLY PROGESTERONE AND TESTOSTERONE DO DURING THE CHANGE. ALL I HEAR IS BACKWARDS TREATING HRT. SUCH WOMEN ON SUCH BACKWARDS TREATMENTS WILL SUFFER MORE BRAINFOG AS WELL AS OSTEOPOROSIS AND INSULIN RESISTANCE AND WEIGHT GAIN AND LOW LIBIDO AND SO MANY UNPLEASANT THINGS
