@@danielj5650 they did, some of those Marines are going into the Army now, so they could either keep doing the same job. Or take the opportunity to change jobs, since the Corps is forcing a lot of them out.
@@jeremysanchez2718 part of the marines shifting their focus/combat parameters. essentially their getting rid of tanks for marines because of how cost ineffective they are for what the marines are meant for. like it does and doesnt make sense but im not the one calling the shots, but my bet is that its part of budget cuts.
serving in Iraq and Fallujah was much worse Im grateful I was never sent there but I still envy them for having tanks, In Helmand best we got was the MRAP
Funny story about that, my adoptive uncle was in Fallujah. Their Humvee stalled and soon a crowd formed. Guys on the rooftops, alleys, whole nine. They were obviously super fucking freaked expecting an RPG to hit them any second, and the crowd got up on the Humvee and started shaking it and shit. Eventually some Iraqi men ran out and started swatting the crowd away and told them to leave the Humvee alone because, and I quote, "they're Marines". Maybe you can read about it somewhere. Got a friend in the Foreign Legion who said something similar - they rarely fucked with the Legion or Australians either bc they knew they had very loose RoE
I used to be in a cav unit that served in Mosul. When we returned, we got some new guys. One of them was a re-enlistment from 1ID who served in Afghanistan. His stories made me feel very humbled. That place sounded like hell on earth, at least our COPs/outposts were Saddam's old palaces and government buildings. He told me how they had to build their own outposts in the middle of nowhere. Restrepo (RIP) was from my AIT class, to give you an idea of the timeline.
Yeah those tankers in Fallujah contributed a great deal but they suffered zero lost and casualty. However for the infantry guys and marines it was a totally different nightmare...
uncle flew apaches both gulf wars, was over there until 2010. they used to play 'baby your a firework' out of their helicopters when they went on missions.

@@MikoyanGurevichMiG21 To be fair the T72s did well. The Chechens weren't stupid, their doctrine was 4 RPGs on one tank - the first 2 or 3 would detonate ERA, one would go trough eventually. It's the Russian corrupt generals that fucked up. No tank would survive that shit, you don't stick tanks in narrow streets like that.
feedback: adding engine noise (the turbine whine for an M1, other for other), track sounds, turret traverse noises, in-vehicle callouts (Gunner Heat PC is a great source for these), and other in-turret sounds could really add to the "you are in a tank doing tank things" vibe, than just a general existence thing. Tanks are loud asf.

I'm not biased because I'm American, but the Abrams and the Sherman tanks are my favorite by design. Never liked the way the T-72 or Panzer looked. Although the British Mk.II from WW1 I think it was called is cool looking.
@@mormonboy25 it’s a good thing and a bad Thing at the same time. You got tinnitus from constant ringing but also a much quieter ride than our adversaries tanks such as the T-90 or earlier versions such as the T-72 which run heavily on Diesel engines and are way louder and is easier to give away they’re positions. I would say it is way more annoying than it is “loud” when inside the Abrams.

Many people who used to serve in the military listened to various songs and the sounds of the songs mixed with the background affects presents a nostalgic feeling, perhaps even making them feel younger
