Another great band from Detroit! Formed in 1976 with members Belita Woods, Tranita Womack, Charles Overton, Gerald Kent, Jeryl Bright, Lamont Johnson, Larry Sims, Renell Gonsalves and Bob Ross.
Signed to new label Tabu Records by Clarence Avant (The Black Godfather), the band quickly recorded the label's first LP "Stormin'" and they were on their way. The very first Tabu single issued was "Lovin' Is Really My Game" and its infectious energy gave the band a #14 disco hit and it matched that position on the Hot Soul (R&B) Chart in the spring of 1977.
I heard this song so much when I lived in Detroit and it was part of the rising popularity of disco songs, but it never charted on the Hot100! I was really surprised to find that out, that song was everywhere on Detroit radio in 1977.
After such an auspicious debut, the band was unable to come up with another winning formula, and "Hot For You" peaking at #21 was their last disco charting single. The band broke up in 1980 and the members went on to session work in various capacities. Belita Woods joined George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic agglomeration as a singer and sadly, she took that wonderful voice with her when she passed away on May 14, 2012.
The song is such a dance classic that it has been covered by Betty Wright (Clean Up Woman) in 1978, Sylvester (You Make Me Feel Mighty Real) in 1984 and then again in 2000, when Ann Nesby's cover version hit the #1 spot for one week.
