Underneath the steps is a concourse area the players coach will stop in the centre and the players will walk into the stadium that way. If it rains fans can take shelter in there too😀

Yeah, the tunnel was a requirement of planning, mainly to protect the fans from bad weather as they queue at the west stand turnstiles
