This is a wash that I didn’t even know that existed! I was snooping around on maps and when I looked up washes near/in Marlborough, this wash came up. So I went on street view to get a good glimpse of it.
What maps street view showed me was a basic 3 bay self service car wash, with a defunct automatic. It seems like the automatic was closed for quite some time, as it shows that it was closed back in 2016, but it did show that it was open in November of 2015.
The exit door says that the previous system was a VERY rare Southern Pride Turbo, “the touchless car washer”. So the machine here was built by the same company who made the famous Tailgunner automatic. It seems like the Turbo and Tailgunner might be exactly the same, but I’m not 100% sure. However, the system itself wasn’t the only thing that caught my eye…
I noticed that the wash had some old Belanger SideKick dryers, which was interesting. I’ve seen a Vector with SideKicks in person before, but that wash had an AirCannon with the SideKicks. This one, I’m not even sure what it had! The door was slightly down so I couldn’t see.
However, I was looking at Massachusetts car washes on the internet and found a picture of this exact car wash, but it was taken a few months ago! And what caught my eye was that the automatic reopened with an all new Belanger Kondor KL1! KL1s are quite rare here, as most Kondors are the KL2. What made me even more excited was that they kept the old Belanger driers! And this, is when I found out what top dryer it was using. But I needed to see this wash in person to confirm.
To my absolute surprise and shock, it was a AIRSTREAM DRYER!!! I have NEVER, EVER seen an AirStream dryer in a IBA in person before, and I thought they were only made for tunnels, but nope! They can be used for IBAs as well. The AirStream dryer is very similar to Mark VII’s triangle shaped Vortex Dryer, Sherman’s drop down triangle shaped dryer and the famous Ryko Thrust Pro, as they were made to contour the car whilst moving up with sensors.
Now of course, I wasn’t expecting it to drop down, and my assumption was correct. The wheels were removed and the tube was completely crushed, with a trash bag covering it so the air from the motor can still go through the tube that was crushed.
The wash shown in this video was the surprisingly cheap Ultimate Wash for $15, and it included:
*Simoniz Ceramic Sealant
*Simoniz Triple Foam
*Undercarriage
*2 Presoaks
*Rinse
*Final Rinse
*Dryer (via AirStream Dryer)
Wash Quality: 12/10
Comments: the wash did a FANTASTIC job! It got all the dirt and dust off of our car, and the dryers did a great job as well!
