Actually heat will be escaping! Should have trimmed the edges of the boards and made planks out of them and made the ceiling flat and level.

Please put the sealant/oil or whatever on the wood BEFORE you make a ceiling, it could be slightly more convenient. ;-) But you did a nice job, it looks good.

If you attach your vacuum collector hose to the chip outlet of your planer, you can suck up the chips as they are produced. Vacuuming the chips will make better and easier planing. Because the chip exhaust and the vacuum hose are likely not the proper diameters, You can use duct tape to temporarily join them together. 😊👍

I wonder if you would have narrow each board to eliminate the bark and straight each board to have what is left of the consistant lumber and tongue and groved each board if you could have eliminated having to put the second layer on, would have used even less of your total lumber used. and even better looking. this is something that would be not that difficult to do later.
