Not going to lie, Toronto has some of the best food chains in the world. I've had a lot of these chains in the city and they literally are the best in class of that type of food that I've had anywhere in the world - best butter tart (Sweetie Pie), best burger (Parts and Labor), best cookie (Felix & Norton), best roti (Island Foods), best popcorn (Kernels) etc and I live in NYC and work in London and travel every 2 weeks for my job so have sampled a lot. Sometimes I go to Toronto just to eat for a weekend as I am a huge fan of the Caribbean food up there along with all of these chains you have. You guys probably take it for granted but you just don't have this level of quality and variety for these everyday chains anywhere else I've travelled to. Maybe just London, Singapore and Tokyo can compete.

These sound like great suggestions to check out ❤Sadly parts and labor closed, but Matty has some other cool options in the city. I promise we don't take it for granted, we are so grateful to have a good food scene.

Still makes me laugh when I see or hear “American cheese”. Processed cheese. It’s processed cheese. Kraft singles Lol American cheese is an Americanism that is spilling into Canada via fast-food joints and restaurants who want to sound fancier and don’t want to put “processed cheese” in the ingredients for the menu Lol

If you're in Canada and a food establishment lists: American cheese on their menu - ask the server if the American cheese is Colby. Is it a Colby straight? Colby-Jack or a Co-Jack? Also, ask if white-American cheese is available. Repeat process. I guarantee you they won't know what you are talking about.

Rosie's burger, still just a hamburger. Have had better for less, also have had worse. We spent an afternoon wandering this place, its overpriced, even for downtown TO. After the burger, I just couldn't reconcile being stupid with my money. Wife bought a bag of Buttered chicken from SamoSarie, Pretty sure we won't be returning.

Great review ! Agree with all of your reviews after a few visits of my own 😊. Japadog is over- rated and over-priced- $15 for a hotdog that was snack size) and agree the grocery store is amazing with hard to find ethnic items and prices are not much higher or sometimes less than the larger grocers . But after spending $50 for a mediocre lunch ( hot dog, sushi and cookie) , would rather go to one of the restaurants in The Well..

I've done Schezuan Express at the Outlet Collection on my way to Niagara Falls. They're OK, nothing spectacular or very unique in terms of a Chinese food court stall. But me being Chinese and with my old stomping grounds of Chinatown just a 15-20min walk north of there , I guess will have higher expectations. For food courts, I prefer Shanghi360. You pay for the uniqueness of Japadog, value is subjective. I'd probably try them once at the very least. Gus Tacos catches my eye, but its mostly because I pass by one all the time and have never been in (yeah, I gotta change that). And The Island, I miss having access to decent rotis since my goto shut down. Or oxtail. I'm kicking myself for not taking advantage of living a stones throw away from Little Jamaica in my youth years.

Great to hear from you! Appreciate you're perspective. We did check out Sunny's for great Chinese in a recent video. Its always hard to appreciate what you have when you have it, hopefully you can check out some decent Jamaican places soon. Island ls Caribbean Cookshop was well worth it❤

What are the hours during weekdays. I read online it closes super early at like 6pm? Doesn't really work for a lot of locals who work from home and live nearby.

Various vendors have listed that they close at 7:00 PM on weeknights. There are a few that are open till 9 (Blue Claw, Islands). I will say though, a lot of the vendors have operated past their closing time. Especially as the Wellington Market can remain pretty busy into the evening.

There is not like tradition and tradition dictates that you leave hot dogs along, with the exception of a Chilli Dog.. never mind the japadog.. pass. Definitely going for the hamburger.

This is impressive… for Canada. It is about time Canadian food halls went upmarket. Fucking shoot me if I have to see another crappy Chinese heated up food, a subway and KFC, and a boring burger place. But Australia is still a few decades ahead of this. The food halls at the Westfield markets are unbelievable. Slick and great places to eat any time of the day. Australia is the gold standard of pubs, cafe’s and food halls.

Japadog I think is overpriced but it is the most unique restaurant in the entire food hall and it's pretty good! Once you've had Buster's Sea Cove you won't go anywhere else for seafood sandwiches!

I recently also went to the Well market and have the same sentiments. Its in a weird spot where the food options are not as upscale chef hall, but the prices are somewhere in the middle of that and then comparable to the new food hall at Eaton. I went for Japadog and I agree - at some point that specifically is a diminishing return (I got one of the cheaper dogs and nori fries). Would still go back though, especially to try Rosie's
@TorontoOurCity
@TorontoOurCity 3 месяца назад
You're totally on the money. I appreciate the representation in the market of these various Toronto restaurants, but the prices are so high that you have to consider the cost of walking 10 to 15 minutes to King, Queen, Spadina, for something that's higher quality than a considerable amount of the options in the Market. That being said, I have hopes that the Waterworks food hall will deliver.

The Well reminds me of my visit to Auckland, New Zealand's CBD area. Westfield has an amazing open concept similar to this. However, there's is better. Beautiful stores, boutiques, over all It is upscale. I find Canada is not progressive when it comes to food halls. Great honest review. I will definitely visit .

Better looking food hall than the one over at Eaton’s. Is it me or some of the prices higher here than at their original locations? I’m guessing the rent for the space is higher than avg in the city?
@TorontoOurCity
@TorontoOurCity 3 месяца назад
hmm yeah there were some price differences for sure, especially with Blue Claw. But let me tell you, this place is super busy! The vendors still haven't figured out their actual hours because there are crowds here till late into the night. Hopefully the rent is worth it for these vendors. Thanks for watching!

Is the world busy on weekends? I know the path used to be busy only during Monday to Friday because that’s when the business people would be down there for lunch. Not many people visited the path during the weekends, maybe only tourist. I live about an hour and a half outside of downtown Toronto, so maybe it’ll have to be a summer visit for me and I’ll be like a tourist because I haven’t been to Toronto since pre-Covid
@clarkli2936

@@jholly5747i think The Path is something else - If you’re talking about the underground areas in the Financial District, then The Well and the Wellington Food Hall is different thing altogether. You’re correct in that The Path is mostly a ghost town on the weekends. The Well is newer and by Spadina and Front

@@clarkli2936 thank you. I didn’t know where the well was. I just assumed it was on Wellington Street. I haven’t been to downtown Toronto since pre-Covid so I will just have to find my way to front and Spadina. Not sure if I can even get there this summer if the TTC goes on strike again, ARG!

I can't think of any reason why these vendors thought setting up in a food hall was a good idea unless their business model was broken in the first place and they're just swinging for the fences. How do you get repeat customers with over-priced tiny portions of cold food made by the limited underpaid staff? Almost none of the pretentious fast-food vendors like these designed their business around what the customer wants. Every option for Torontonians today is made by investment bros who limit their business expenses to such anorexic levels that they can't offer a decent product. If you could spend $100 here and still be hungry, why not go to a real restaurant?
