Brand New Hornby Peckett Class B2 | Unboxing & Review 

I've just shared this video with my mate over in Quebec Canada. He's English not French. Each year, he and his wife set up a little Lilliput type village Christmas scene with many illuminated buildings and a loop of 00 track around it. He originally purchased the Hornby Christmas train set using one of those really old revamped Tri-ang deisel shunter locos. This gave me an idea for secretly getting them something much better. His wife's maiden name is Earle and I noticed the B2 had just been released with a blue one called The Earl. Hornby had also advertised a cute Christmasy looking W4 in dark red called Daphne in Tytherington Stone Co purple ? He had the choice of either, not both. Luckily he chose The Earl B2, because at time of posting (Dec 2021), the W4 Daphne still hasn't been released. I've ordered it anyway for myself. Also by chance, Oxford Rail released a private owner coal wagon as T. Bowler, so as my mate's surname is Bowler, I slipped that in the package to him unannounced. He was advised to keep the package unopened and hidden from his wife until the village was again set up ready for Christmas 2021. It now has been and their feedback has been very positive, with the B2 being very powerful for its size he says. The T.Bowler wagon however is a bit light and derails, so he's going to add some sparkly stones as a load to give it some weight

I love this tank! Honestly it's probably my favorite British tank now too. I saw the thumbnail in my recommendations and had to watch immediately. Also I wanted to thank you for your recommendation for paper buildings. After you said you liked your paper models, I downloaded some kits and my layout has so much more life to it now. Two cabins, a loading dock, and a country store all for five dollars at the print shop. I appreciate it!

Very good work once again Sam, and congrats on 50K, you deserve them all and more. I think this is a wonderful little engine: definitely a must have for an industrial layout. However, I still think the LNER N7 by Oxford Rail is the best: it just has such a wow factor to it and I adore its history and looks. Keep up the good work!

Beautiful B2 Peckett! I've never seen a Peckett 0-6-0ST before. I've seen a 0-4-0ST W4 peckett but not a 0-6-0 Peckett. This has got to be one of the best Hornby tank engines they got! :) BTW, congrats on 50K subs! I hope you get to 100K subs soon! :D

Not entirely related to the video, but I subscribe to several brass players on youtube, one of whom collects and reviews many unusual instruments. When I opened this video in a new tab I immediately got a phone call, forgot about this, came back to the computer, and the title in the tab was perfectly cut off to "Brand New Horn..." so I was very confused when I clicked back to it and heard the sound of the intro trains! Again, sorry for not being relevant but it made me smile on a troubled day just like your videos themselves do, hopefully I can pass a smile on for once. Cheers, Sam! Congrats on the milestone! Hi Sam, congratulations on the 50k !!! it's well deserved, you work damned hard so enjoy :) :) :). The Peckett is a beautiful loco, I had mine delivered Tuesday was so excited however it did not last long. I had the DCC fitted version I tried to run it in, put it on the track turned on the power and nothing. I gave it a nudge it moved half in inch and stopped, nudge after nudge and it did run for a couple of laps round a small loop and then cut out. I tried it in reverse and that was just as bad. So my excitement was tempered to disappointment :( :( . I also ordered 6 coal waggons in the Mansfield Colliery livery they came today and they look great, Sherwood Colliery was one of the mines in town and I thought it was a nod to the past, looks like it will be a static model only .

Just watched this as I bought one from Kernow Model Rail Centre for £80!! In September (looks like the price has gone back up). This is an amazing model. Looks great and runs great. Nice to know bargains can still be found

Well done for reaching 50,000. Peckett have a similar 0-6-0T at Bristol Docks, which is an FA class with a shorter chimney. The brass maker's plate is modelled well. I have an original Peckett plate from 1941. The 0-6-0s were a heavier duty than the 0-4-0s. Some docks and collieries needed stronger engines because of slopes or heavier loads. Some had quite long link lines and needed a better locomotive to pull them. Another excellent review that makes me covet the model.

just received my NCB 1426 Peckett B2 a few days ago, I've been running her in with a single shunters truck, and will be soon entering her into local passenger service on my layout. She will haul 2 to 3 corridor coaches for the local passenger runs.

Great vid!! Convinced me enough to buy one! I’m a big fan of industrial locos myself, particularly the austerity tanks. Have a few myself and also volunteer on a steam railway as a fireman were we have a variety of them including pecketts! Btw, the rod you describe are the reversing lever is actually the sanding linkage to the front sand boxes! Most industrials being right hand drive means the reversing lever would be on the other side 😁😁

I've been tempted by this ever since the hornby January announcements, i love small industrials, especially steam locos with wasp-stripes. looks like I'll be getting one for certain at one point or another. I hope hornby brings out more pecketts, I've seen quite a few liveries of them that I'd love to have.

That B2 looks really good, definitely worth the money by the looks of it. And Hey! I noticed at 30:12 that you took up my moving the tunnel around suggestion. :)

Another amazing review Sam! I do really like the peckets, I'd have my favorite out of the two would be 0-4-0. Although I mostly model and collect American stuff (since I live it the USA) but I would really love to pick up one of these in future!

great video as always Sam and congrats on 50k subs. just thought id give you some info about how much these would haul in real life, certainly the likes of ncb werent very kind to their locos in a lot of cases and i think being only given 14 wagons would probably be at the smaller end of the range of wagon rakes they would be expected to pull. i know the ncb colliery that use to be in my area would have austeritys pulling 25-30 wagons on a regular basis, so id say 20-25 wagons for the peckett is fairly realistic.

Great review Sam. Look great. Might be a purchase for me!! For you interest, the plate is almost certainly a 'registration' plate. Any industrial locomotives that needed to operate on the national network (i.e. exchange siding etc) had to be registered and carried a plate with the reg number. Well done of the 50k... you've now got 50k +1! :)

I absolutely adore the Pecketts. I think for outright cute factor the W4 is still my favourite by a long way, but the B2 is certainly more forgiving of pointwork with its larger wheelbase, and that makes it a much more joyous model to operate. I really can't wait for the NCB version to arrive!

I congratulate and I'm glad you like the photos I sent a week/few weeks ago. My local Argos re-opened and has a small range of hornby products which I'm hoping to get soon.

That looks stunning, I might get one! I can see a bit of bleeding on the wasp stripes but that is because of my model making so I look for bleeding quite a lot. But that is just me rivet counting.... I also believe the hornby website does say a 3 pole motor. It also seems to be quite a while since you last ran some tri ang stuff!

11:14 I've never seen the point of sprung buffers, they're nice but the only time I've ever seen them function is when I push them my self not the wagons. On a positive note u have persuaded me to buy one. Well done for so many subs

Hi Sam, Your mention of no detail pack and the price has me wondering if an assumption I had made was incorrect. I thought the reason for detail packs was that the small bits would break off when the locos were boxed at the factory. For that reason (and my shabby gluing technique) I've never applied the small details so that I could re-box my locos. Now you have me thinking that maybe the manufacturers include detail packs so they do not have to pay the assemblers for the time it would take to apply those small bits. Fun video as always!

Definitely on my wishlist. This looks superb and I love tank engines. My all time top of the wishlist though, has to be Hornby City Of Truro. An oldie but a goodie.

brought one today love it. the train is pretty realistic coal wagons made it all over the country say someone in Newcastle wanted some Welsh coal and a lot of industrial tank engines were just as powerful as much bigger mainline engines so 14 wagons would be easy

Excellent review of the new Hornby 0-6-0 Peckett B2 Class Sam 👍 That the very one that I like to buy as the livery looks so beautiful and the black & yellow warning stripes is amazing. In your future live stream videos, I like to see both Pecketts in bright green livery’s double heading with privately owned wagons.

Great review, sweet loco and congrats on 50k. I'm surprised that private ownership engines sell well, as surely more people have big four/BR layouts. I guess the bright liveries are a selling point.
