First off I want to give a HUGE THANKS to the amazing crew for taking this truck out just for me, so I could document it’s first day on route! The driver has been filmed by Carter (Minnesota Garbage Kid) all the way out in Souix Falls South Dakota. The helper is one of the coolest Waste Management drivers I have ever met and I have filmed him a few times before, so it was great to be able to catch up and follow him around for a while.
Waste Management of Sarasota County Florida recently decided to automate recycling collection, personally I think they should have remained manual, but that’s just me. When they switched to the new program they purchased about 25 Mack LR Heil Python CNrG trucks. There were still many areas that those new trucks couldn’t fit in, so they started to look for satellite trucks that would be able to do the job. They were originally going to purchase Kann, but eventually decided on buying a handful of these units. They are pretty good trucks for the most part, definitely a really good cab and can pack a pretty nice load, not to mention they look extremely sharp. These trucks do however have a few issues... This style packer combined with such a small hopper can result in material easily being pushed out of the truck while attempting to complete a pack cycle. The trucks are also a little too tall to fit in some of the very tight areas that the satellite trucks are needed for. The tippers also don’t work perfect, but I’m sure that’s an easy fix. All in all a fairly good purchase in my opinion.
Unfortunately my camera work wasn’t the best as I was fighting the sun and also very excited about filming this truck haha. These routes are also very hard to find a good area to set up and film in without being in the crews way.
