I love this video !! This has been so helpful in deciding accomodation as an international student ! Would love to see in depth room tours like this for all the different room types so its more easier to actually compare them. Amazing tour !! ❤️
Thank you so much! The difference between the bronze silver and gold rooms is just the floor and not the sizes. If I can get a video of the studio rooms I will try and do so ☺️x
Loveee your uni room and all the pics on your wall! Plus good sunlight means good selfie light 👌😉 also “I’ve been tested way too many times for the Rona” 😂😂😂 lolll me xx
Maisie Rose thank you so much Maisie!! 💕 You 100% know about the selfie lighting there😝 the people at the test centre probably know me by name now 😂 xx
Khads_ No worries! It really depends on what type of room you get. I got a discount and prices change every year so my price will differ slightly from the advertised prices
Neisha Larbi I’m so sorry I literally had it ready but uni stress got to me!🤦🏾♀️ I hope you liked it and share to anyone who’s planning to study in Birmingham 🤍
Are there many first years in onyx or is there a lot of seconds years because I don’t wanna go to onyx and all first years be on campus like William Murdock and janes watt
I got a couple of questions; Do you apply before you get your Uni offer or after? How much is it in terms of like the room, wash, gym? Is there students from both Aston and Brum city uni in the building? How did you choose your accomodation?
I’ll reply to each question as a separate message so it’s easier. I was already enrolled at uni whilst onyx was built so I booked quite early. In regards to when I was in first year, I booked my accommodation after I got my offer
It’s all dependant on how many weeks as they do two types of tenancies. I believe I’m paying under £155 a week but I couldn’t give you an exact figure. The gym is free and I’ll try and confirm the wash prices
With choosing Onyx, I had seen the construction when I was walking around the area and went in to find out what it was, it just so happened to be a new accommodation that they were building
No worries and apologies for the reply! Yes there are lots of international students that I saw and knew of living at onyx. There are definitely more locals than internationals but that is just due to the ratio of international to home students at surrounding universities
I know it’s quite far to walk to the City South campus, but on the Onyx website it says it’s a 7min walk to the main campus. Unfortunately I don’t study there but I hope this helps Careen
Hi Rachel thanks so much for the proper video. I’ll be attending Aston uni for my masters coming in from Nigeria, I want to secure a room soon before January and I want to ask if there are any disadvantages at onyx when compared to marysturge inside Aston. Just want an honest opinion so I can make a choice
Hello, I’m glad you found the video useful! Unfortunately I have never stayed at Mary Sturge so I cannot make a fair comparison regarding it. One thing I will say is that at Onyx you can purchase a studio if you’d like to live alone, or select whether to be in a flat of 5, 6 or 7 people total (including yourself). I believe accommodations at Aston only accommodate either 5 or 7 people (including yourself) so there is less flexibility in that sense. I hope this helps
I’m staying ucb in September and this is my number one accommodation I want to go to would you recommend this one 100% or is there any other ones would recommend
@@racheloderinde Hiya, Love the video so informative! And these four that you've listed, would you say they're popular for Aston/BCU first years because I'm starting at Aston in September and currently looking for accomodation?
Mazvita Mupazi Hey, yes I would say they are as when I was in first year I knew at least one person staying at each (minus onyx as it was just built). Equally a lot of people stay on Aston’s campus and BCU students can stay there too
Hey, I wouldn't recommend it because I thought most first years would live on campus, but surprisingly there are a lot of first-year students that stay at onyx this year. The social space is really nice so socialising in areas shouldn't be a problem xx
Hello, I hope you are well. I had a few questions to ask if you don't mind. Are we allotted specific rooms after we pay our deposits? What's unit 402, 403 or 404? Are they flat no.s in which 4-5 rooms are supposed to be? Do they allot room only after we reach there? Thank you🥰
Hello, I can help you with this question. Those are flat numbers, so within those flats you would have different rooms and a shared kitchen. As there are three blocks (or buildings), there is flat 402 in each of the buildings. As I booked an entire flat with my friends we booked a specific flat in a specific building and allocated which rooms we wanted. You could call up to see what building and room number you are in as the policies may have changed. Hope this helps ☺️
Do a lot of people stay for 51 weeks? Just because I would rather stay 51 weeks but I don’t want all the people I meet to be gone the whole summer Also do u think living on the 1st and 2nd floor is ok if you don’t mind the view or are the higher floor rooms better? Thanks x
It’s entirely up to you, I know people living on the first floor and they’re happy with their view. The same thing goes for people I know on the 12th floor. But they do say the higher the floor the better the view x
Mata S None of these issues have come up again since they have happened so all is going well! But things like that are bound to happen with brand new buildings especially in the initial stages
Hey, do you know if anyone from the University Of Birmingham has accommodation at ONYX because it looks amazing I'm just worried about commuting. Online it says its a 20min train journey or a 50min walk which I don't think is ideal for me. Just wondering if you have any info on it
Myles C Hey, I can try and find someone and see how they commute to University of Birmingham. Because most lectures are online, I don’t think that most University of Birmingham students have had to commute as such
@@racheloderinde Oh yeah I didn't think of that. If you do find out please let me know. Oh and I've got another question. Do any first-year undergrads live there because I don't know if I should get accommodation on campus or at ONYX for my first year.
Myles C I know some people that study at the university who prefer to stay on campus there. I’ve only heard of a couple of second year students who do stay at ONYX. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to contact any UOB students
It's probably best to stay on campus with UOB or other accommodations around the area. The accommodations near BCU or Aston I wouldn't recommend but if you're good at commuting, being on time then yes, but money wise there's no point. I hope this helps
Yes they do! Onyx is a private university accommodation so they are not linked to any university, but you have to be enrolled to live there. So anyone from Aston University, University of Law, University of Birmingham, University College Birmingham and Birmingham City University can live there
