Today I learned that my local model retailer does already follow your channel. I just started to watch the video when he phoned me up and asked if I have already seen that new video on Peco's TT semaphore kits and if I would pre order a bunch of these. I did (even before finishing to watch the video) and ordered some Viessmann semaphore signal drive units (these are pneumatic-magnetic which results in slow-motion operation and they come with a pre-fitted hard wire) and some Bemo point motors for trying to get these semaphores into fully remote-controlled working order. As always, great video! Many Thanks!
@mactrains
@mactrains 29 дней назад
That wins comment of the year! I had no idea that retailers were watching - quietly chuffed with that (no pun intended!). Let me know how you get on with the Viessmann units - that sounds like a very good system and matchup. PS, if you haven't already - a sub will get you entered into the prize giveaway

@@madhatter61 All the needed parts are on order. I've also decided to give a Peco-SL10 a try, as the Viessmann signal drive units are a bit pricey at 40-45€.

Nice review Greg. My model making skills would need some fine tuning but the kit does provide me with a level of motivation. Perhaps a fine wire and servo motor would work to automate the single signal. Enjoy your videos thanks for sharing 👍

A good review, and well spoken as you knew what you wanted to say. A minor point for painting the ladder is it should be white at the bottom in line with the black, then, black all the way up against the white posts. I assume Peco put 4 arms on a sprue as the bracket could have one of each, or, two of the same so gives you the choice and to save a new sprue made it was easier to send a set of 4 armsmin every pack. Regarding making the outer bracket work there is the correct way with cranks on every corner but usually modellers will use the old Dublo method of one wire bent across the board which goes up and down. Triang also did this. Excellent anyway.
@mactrains
@mactrains 29 дней назад
Ah, I didn't know that - I assume thats to provide contrast with the signal post itself? Re the cranks - yes I have seen that done, but confess it would certainly tax my abilities I think. Thanks for watching and commenting Garry - always enlightening. Do remember if you're subscribed, you have the chance to win a set for yourself, when (if) the subs tick over to 800.
@garryhall5552
@garryhall5552 29 дней назад
@mactrains yes it is for contrast. Making cranks and fitting them is for masochists and I would opt for the easier option. Although these are really neat items I will not be getting any as I will stay with my 3mm ones from Triang and Gem which are die-cast or moulded plastic in the case of the gantry. At the moment I have very few signals on as they tend to get in the way of most photos. The Peco ones would not last 5 minutes in my careless hands
@mactrains

I see I'm not the only one burning the midnight oil! I think fitting them at OO would be possible, but at TT it's just impractical - at least for me.

Yes, I think that will be an interesting comparison. But Hornby's ones are not due for some months yet if I remember correctly. I suspect Hornby will have to sacrifice a little of the fine scale in order to make them operable out of the box. Thanks for watching.

Those are much better than I expected. I’ve got some OO kits and they were so fiddly to make. Nice compromise between buildable but not too tricky. One criticism. How much would it have cost to include a piece of wire? I still think I’ll wait for the Hornby ones
@mactrains
@mactrains 29 дней назад
Thanks Damian - I did genuinely like them - trying to remove any bias of free gift syndrome - I still think they were properly good. The "pin-as-spindle" is perhaps not the most robust solution for longer term use, and I suspect they didn't want folk making them too operable unless they were really quite expert. Strange they choose GWR signals given that Hornby's TT has focused on LNER and with a bit of LMS.
@mactrains
@mactrains 26 дней назад
I think that Peco have historically focussed on western region things, presumably in the expectation that GWR will come along sooner or later. It means they have a distinction too from the Hornby ones when they come out. Thanks for watching and commenting.

These signals do seem to be a massive upgrade from the ratio kits (also under the Peco brand) for OO. Please don't enter me into the draw as I don't model in TT, best given to someone who will use them.
@mactrains
@mactrains 29 дней назад
Yes, I'd agree with that - they are obviously using much more modern methods compared to the older tooled OO versions - not that they are bad overall, but you can tell this is newly designed. Appreciate the comment re OO and the giveaway. I will keep that in mind. Still love OO myself!
