There is a definite market for vertical splitters. I've always liked a single wedge just because there is less small debris. People with large rounds, I'm sure love them. I'm sure you'll sell a bunch. 👍

Watched before signing in. I like the new improvements for this style of splitter Chris! I do have questions and a couple of maybe suggestions if you don't mind. 1. Is that beam flexing as the ram gets pressure on it while splitting ( mainly right before it cracks the wood open at the beginning of the stroke)? 2. What is the target price or price range going to be? Suggestions: I think maybe something to improve on would be the power to split the wood easier. That Hackberry had it struggling too hard in my opinion. I think getting it to move faster down AND up would be nice too ( maybe adjustable ). Lastly, just a comment...... USA made! Obviously, but it needed to be said 🙂 Thank you for giving us good solid options in the firewood market right here in our own country.

Fantastic vertical unit!!! Extremely innovative with the design. Really curious about the VS model. I noticed it on the website just today! QQ. Does this use the same Bronze wear slides as the other units?? I'm holding by breath to see the prices of each unit!! Well done team Wolfe Ridge

A lot of great ideas involved in this machine. I like how the log lift goes above the splitting deck, so that you’re not having to manhandle the wood,it just slides downhill. Can’t wait to see the final product.

Look forward to seeing this Chris an possibly trying it out at the show . Love the swinging conveyor . My wife is always feeding me rounds on our homemade vertical and and i have to stop and lower an raise the log lift for her . Having the controls for that so she could reach them would be very nice. Id say you got yourself another winner there . Congrats on the vertical an look forward to meeting you .

Missing the speed of the cycle time and splitting power to the other brand you are comparing to. I will take a closer look at it at Bunyan. Other than those two things I’m seeing it’s a better machine. Fix those two things and you will have the best vertical splitter on the market today. If it’s priced right.
@WolfeRidgeSplitters
@WolfeRidgeSplitters Год назад
TBH, we tried a regen valve on this one, that valve is limiting power and not really helping the cycle time. We will be going a different route with splitter valving. We are using a larger cylinder for more power than anyone else in the industry Pricing will be very good compared to other machines on the market, even the ones with fewer features.

Nice job team WR. Positives- tandem pumps. No “stealing” oil from split circuit. Progress linkage for log lift…hot damn! Thought that was gonna take an act of congress to get any vertical mfg to incorporate. Hydraulic lift of elevator and slewing capability👍Remote panel control of engine, nice. Negatives- foot pedal. May need some tweaks. Could a pendant pedal be used with a directional solenoid valve? Hall sensors for travel limit? Show me a closer pic on working side of log lift hinge. You know I’m a staunch supporter of piano hinge or some roller spacers in pivot shaft for Pete’s sakes!. Those gaps on the orange brand just pisses me off!😆 so does the janky foot pedal linkages. When they push/pull on both ends of the valve spool they eliminated the spring centering/detent thus the janky linkages come about🤦‍♂️

Just an observation and maybe it’s not as bad in person but the conveyer seems very noisy and tinny. Maybe you could find a way to dampen that with some poly guides or add some clearance? I’m thinking “hifax” as a possibility? I’m guessing this isn’t going to be an entry level price tag and it’s not an entry level machine so things like that would annoy me…just a thought! Otherwise that thing is bad ass! Well done!👍🏻

looks like a great machine and idea.the only thing i could see from the video that i think would knock it out of the park for me would be to make the area under the wedge less slick,perhaps a squiggle of weld?reason in teh one shot you had a piece with either a non square end or was tipped towrds you and when the pressure from ram hit it,it wanted to kick at you.if you just put a squiggle of weld there it would prevent that from happening.otherwise looks like a great idea,and well thought out machine

I’ve seen big brands such as the Big 3 not only put poorly thought out designs into production, but also keep them in production for decades… (Twin Traction Beam for example)😬🤦🏻‍♂️ Being First isn’t always best. One thing i could see that might need to change, return speed of the cylinder could be faster. Maybe a stop or lock on the log lift so it doesn’t go too far when in use. Otherwise A+

Nice Unit!👍👍 Is the tongue removable or does it fold to the side? Couldnt quite tell what all was going on up front? What tonnage are you shooting for? You guys seemed to have addressed alot of existing vertical splitter issue except belly protection. The poor Stihl guys can never get straight cuts and they want to push at you when splitting. Could some type of flip up or slide down shield be added for belly protection when doing smaller diameter wood and then dropped out of the way for bigger diameter chunks? I watched your video with Chris from In the Woodyard. Could you two possible get together for a hunting/fishing video for his other channel?🤠
@markw2266
@markw2266 11 месяцев назад
You definitely touched on all the weak points of the Axis. Granted, there is cost associated with fixing those issues. My experience with the vertical splitter system is infeed. A blocker with infeed deck seems to be the missing link. You absolutely need a conveyor to get rid of splits, so why wouldn't you need a conveyor to feed it. To me, it makes it a complete one man operation which fills that gap between chainsaw cutting, handling and expensive processors. Being able to add on to what you have and incease your production seems like a good business plan. I like the idea of multiple splits, the reality of it is single knives give nicer firewood. I have a box wedge machine and single wedge splitters. I prefer single wedge for my firewood. Not as easy but definitely cleaner. The size control is also a big plus. Nice product.

Chris nice splitter. The only things I noticed is the cutting edge looks smaller than the one's I have seen on GP OUTDOORS and OUTDOORS WITH THE MORGANS. The other thing I noticed was it looked like it was struggling to start splitting the wood. Seeing that in action that way might cause people to go to another brand with less options.

@marcellemay7721

It's a beautiful machine. I think it needs a little bit more splitting power. I understand the hydraulic engineering challenges of speed vs. brute force. There's always a trade off with cylinder size, pump size and horsepower. I think in this case, it just needs more horse power in the engine department. Especially since it's sharing horsepower with the conveyor. it probably could use 20hp but 16hp might be sufficient. A larger cylinder would solve the power problem but then the speed suffers. The actual cylinder slide is probably the beefiest I've seen in this type of machine, so kudos on that. For me personally, I like the conveyor, but if I was on a budget, the extra cost of the conveyor might be the difference between being able to afford the machine or simply not buying one. Perhaps make it a bolt on option. The lift is awesome on this machine and it's a must have on this type of machine IMO. I'd rather see the $$ being spent on a bigger motor and pump rather than a conveyor. I think the smallish cylinder size is a necessity to get the speed your looking for.

@WolfeRidgeSplitters 11 месяцев назад

Hi Chris, Excellent design on the new splitter. I have a couple of thoughts for you. It would be a plus if the conveyor were detachable. That could make it easier to store and also, it could allow the conveyor to be an upgrade to the base model. There are a ton of existing splitters out there. A stand-alone log lift might be a big seller for people who own splitters like a SuperSplit. Again, congratulations on the new splitter and your apparent business success. It's innovators like you that make the world a better place. 😊 Shalom/gw

I never measured it, but some of the rounds i deal with when split may fall off. I love the features you have with the rotating conveyer, the all hydraulic machine. That is a very nice machine! I run several different brands of vertical splitters. The conveyor would work good on a small dump trailer as well. I like the idea of the engine control at your work station…. Even with the 9 hp I’d have it . Fill a wheel barrel then go pile it…. Sure would be nice not to have to walk around every time or leave it running You have a lot of great features on it. Vertical splitter have a specific application.. when I bought my first one several years ago it really changed things for my business. I still use horizontal splitters as well, they put out the wood. I hope you do well with them…. Horizontal and virtual splitters work well together!

Can i trought of a idea that might make it even better and wouldnt take mutch more to build mabie position the hydraulic controls in a spot that you can get two operators access to them, eather that or keep the same one but with a secondary log lift controls off to the side. If you reasize this machine is one man operation to usebut more times then not you will have a second person helping you. But if he cant rase the lift and get your next log ready he doesn't have mutch he can do... if this is all making sense.

Thank you! Both of those are bolt on options on this machine that can be added no problem. Also incorporating fork pockets into the frame and speeding the cycle time up as well. Like I said, we wanted to make sure we have the very best machine on the market!

Very neat and perfect timing for a Wisconsin-made product to come up as I did have the EM Axis in my 2-year plan but naturally prefer to buy local. I messaged the site for more info. but do really finesse/precision cuts for cooking wood part-time time, so verticle makes the most sense for me, and I am looking forward to learning more.

Biggest thing that was never mentioned is space the machine takes. Summer is my seasoning time nothing gets split so my splitter and conveyor sit in the garage eating up a ton of space this all in one here is small. You have options on conveyor size

Thanks! Only building with the 8 ft conveyor now. 11 ft tall with conveyor upright.

I hope Mike gets one. I’ve been looking at a couple verticals. I think it would be easy on my back

What's the price? Been really interested in a vertical splitter for a few years and been wanting for you to build one.

Final numbers will be on the website late this week. Being a prototype, we are still working on ways to make it even better as well. Thanks!

Looking forward to see the production models. Did you or would you consider a valve to increase the speed of the conveyor to "toss" the splits onto a pile instead of the baskets? I will definitely consider that unit. Keep up the good work!

Is this your baby Chris, or do you have an in-house engineer that came up with that beauty?

We have an engineer now who gets the lucky job of taking my ideas and trying to make sense of them Hahaha

the out riggers need to be crank type. if you just move a pin it will never be stable
