Ahmed was the best guide I think you could have ever had, what a gentlemen and what a beautiful country he is blessed to live in. I loved the drone shots of the collapsed roads, the power of the sands is quite astonishing and then to see those oasis with green fields and trees was awesome.

Ahmed’s personality and genuine character is the kind of encounter with other human beings that always has me smiling from the inside out. Being paid for the incredible job he did as a guide does not take away from his sparkling and clear-eyed humanness for all who he meets. Noraly, my core muscles were sore just watching you guide Alaska repeatedly through the sand dunes. The places you go and show us are the places I would most love to see when traveling. I am often left with something to think about by the end of each of your videos. Today it was the unrelenting nature of sand which can swallow up so much as it travels across the shifting landscape. The rhythm of desert sand is something I have never experienced but you have given me a glimpse of its nature. Just gorgeous… and a tiny bit terrifying. Thank you!

As with so many other following you, I stumbled onto Itchy Boots by accident. I'm enthralled by it, and this trip to Mauritania is especially captivating because our daughter served in the Peace Corps (Moudjeria--sort of near Tidjikja and eight hours from Nouakchott by "bush" taxi) for two years. We visited for a couple weeks--getting the full experience of a road disappearing completely in a sandstorm. We also ended up with the dog our daughter adopted while there. You're one fantastic human being Noraly. Thank you! it's time to get back to the video...

It feels like a post apocalyptic Mad Max scenery: the tarmac roads being swallowed by the desert. A very special feature in these episodes is the color. I really love the contrast between the sky and the sand, the different browns and the greens when there is enough water to make things grow. Noraly deserves an award for making such good content! - ...And the Oscar for best RU-vidr goes to... ITCHY BOOTS!

Wow, the sand and wind are an undeniable force. Riding on tarmac dunes was a different thing lol. I could almost feel the drop in temperatures when you were riding through the palm lines streets. I think that’s the biggest herd (if that’s what it’s called) of camels Ive seen so far. Beautiful water in the middle of nowhere was a surprise, for sure. Great video and music, Noraly.

Another wonderful video from our favorite world traveler. I was in Mauritania years ago in the capital city. We were told about the windy season when massive sandstorms would arrive from the desert. Main roads in the city would be blocked and sand was in everything. I happy Noraly and her companion Alaska have not experienced a no visibility sandstorm. If they did she’d handle it fine I’m sure!

I mentioned before, I am amazed how clean the streets and the houses are, not a single piece of trash, no plastic, no greasy papers, of cause the sand and soil and rocks but no pollution

With this drone technology they are certainly changing our perspective of how we see the world as it is today. Look at that view of that oasis. We would never have appreciated the videos as much as we do right now....breathtaking really!

I hope some will notice but just in case, I would like to draw attention to something. At timestamp 14:06 "And here comes, suddenly, a green valley. Wow! It's amazing." A few moments later at 14:14 is the reason why that valley is green and everywhere else is shifting sand, filling up river bottoms, causing the river to flow over and destroy a new paved road. Pause the vid at 14:14. You see the road, and parallel to that you see a row of rocks, then a strip of sand, then a strip of green. That is the first grass I have seen in any of Noraly's vids of Mauritania. Why is grass only in this valley? I normally watch videos at low resolution so it doesnt use so much data but when something is interesting I turn it to higher resolution to see details better, and I use a pc with about 14 in screen so if you are watching on a smaller device you may not be able to see it but the division between green grass and bare sand is a barbed wire fence. That whole region, from Mali to Kenya to Cairo to Fez used to be grasslands, capable of producing vast quantities of wheat and cattle creating several of the richest nations ever to exist and now it really isnt livable at all, but there are still enough trying to by the same means that made a desert out of it in the first place that it cannot recover. The problem is, if you strip ALL the grass off, the sand starts blowing around and it's all downhill from there. You have to move your herd long before the grass is so sparse it cannot reseed for next year. Somebody put up a fence, they keep it in good repair and challenge anyone who comes along with a herd, nope you are not grazing this spot bare, there is the fence row! The one who put up the fence, pays attention to how much grazing that pasture can tolerate and moves the herd off when it is time, is relatively rich, the one outside the fence is about as poor as a person can get. Half a continent can be recovered if everybody did like the guy who put up a fence. You dont need the fence though, just move your herd when it is time. And when you do have a herd on a pasture, defend a patch to not let them eat it at all, it will make seeds that will scatter all around that small preserved spot. Wont do any good though if your cousin comes along with his herd 3 days later and strips it bare anyway. One of the oldest causes for war among humans. One of the most valuable aspects of law ever invented was defined property lines to prevent a small fraction of humans from wiping out life sustainance for everyone around them from ignorance, stupidity and/or greed. Ignorance can be cured with a good story, a book, or by example. Stupidity is not so easy to overcome, it requires leadership and sometimes firm admonishment. Greed is the worst especially when combined with laziness and apathy. I hope you take notice, have an epiphany of the root cause of so much poverty and suffering in this world, and spread the word that much of it is because of eating the last seed and having nothing from there on.

The moving sand over the road demonstrates how places have disappeared in African desert and still do! I saw at least one other gentlemen who had Ahmeds flowing blue robe style but as you got out of the village it seems jeans and work trousers were the norm. This is one of the RU-vid channels that is far better on a big screen. I had been watching this channel on a tablet and 20" monitor. One night I popped it up on the 65" LG OLED and wow.. what a revelation, because with the grand vistas and drone shots, it became all the more dramatic. So I'm starting over and watching this season from the beginning on a big screen and recommend you do the same!
