35 brand new Sodi SR5s 270cc have arrived at Daytona Sandown Park. After driving each one, they do feel very nice to drive and they are a suitable corporate kart. The handling on these karts are amazing, steering is very light so is more than suitable for drivers who may find karting quite physical. Mid 51s have already been achieved and naturally new Sodi karts start off a bit slow, so 50 second laptimes should definitely be doable in the near future once the engines run-in more.
The way to master these karts round this track is to drive with precision, and use aggressiveness only when necessary. Corner exits and momentum is now ever more important now that the engines are less powerful and lack the bottom end.
The tow has been found to be a lot stronger in these karts compared to the old 390cc RT8s, which will make for very close racing.
It should also be noted that in this video I do a single-take set of demonstration laps following the 2-wheel kerbing rule allowed for InKart, it is very likely that kerbing will not be allowed for normal public sessions, listen to or check with the race director on the day.

perfect video description, I completely agree on these karts exit speed is where the time is made up, my big issue was getting the entry balanced between sliding too much and losing all my momentum, and not turning in enough and having to dump my speed to avoid understeer. It's all in my first video I just uploaded, give it a look when you have the chance!

It was my first time in these karts today for the Junior Sprint League and I came 5th for my first race. Also came 4th in the A final for inkart, so a very good day for me :D

I'm going Karting here for the first time in 5 years with my dad this Saturday. If I remember rightly can't you get away with just lifting into a few corners and don't have to use the break pedal
@DanteDhillon
@DanteDhillon Год назад
You are right especially with these new karts as the handling is much better and the speed is slower

Were in the slower karts this time. Is there a target time to achieve in them that would mean you would expect to be allowed in the dmax karts

Let’s go! Another Daytona vid.😅 Do you think they will ever go back to the old/ quicker dmax karts?
@DanteDhillon
@DanteDhillon 2 года назад
The current dmax are able to do 45s since changing tyre brand, maybe low-mid 45s on fresh tyres, which is where the old dmax were at The new dmax karts are MK are the fastest ever following a few mods

hi dante, is the first corner flat? is it also flat on reverse alternate? also one more thing, the bump on that turn is pretty big and I went over it and span out as it unsettles the car. but it was on rev alt
@DanteDhillon
@DanteDhillon Год назад
Hi, first corner is flat out. It should also be flat out on reverse alternate, just need to take care and turn delicately over that bump

Amazing drive on an amazing circuit! How do you brake through most corners (like very hard in the entry and lift throughout or just smooth braking)? I also noticed that my kart kept on bouncing through many corners (especially turn 5) so what could be the problem?
@DanteDhillon
@DanteDhillon Год назад
Hey, you don't want to be too aggressive on the brakes here as it can upset the rear and cause it to snap out on you, so you more want to feed the brake pedal through, albeit turn 6 you want to be fairly hot on the brakes, and turn 2 a little bit too. Turn 4 is the only other braking area so not too much brake is neccessary, as most of the slowing down is done by the steering. Hopping at turn 5 could be you're just touching the kerb a little bit on the inside, or your line is too tight. Sometimes hopping at t5 is unavoidable though, hope this helps :)

Trying to learn karting and your videos are super helpful! What is the actual sequence in one of the hard corners like turn 2 after the long straight and the easy first wide turn? I’m terms of when you press the brakes, how hard and for how long, and when then do you give the quick wheel turn and then go on the throttle again? You act so fast it’s difficult to dissect your technique and would love an insight. Many thanks!

Very nice driving! One question though. What are the benefits of turning in so aggressively in comparison to the normal, gentle turn in?
@DanteDhillon
@DanteDhillon Год назад
Aggressive turn in can help you get the rotation faster (so on the power earlier) and it can also help you scrub speed off faster for corners :)
@yuvix
@yuvix Год назад
@@DanteDhillon Interesting. Does it also cause the rear to step out or can you still keep it stable? Hard to tell from the vid
@DanteDhillon
@DanteDhillon 11 месяцев назад
@@yuvix It does get the rear to step out which is beneficial as long as you have the skill to keep it stable for the rest of corner

@@DanteDhillonin my experience this only work when racing on lighter weight because you have the acceleration for it. Do you think this is stil a fast method when driving on 80/90kg?
@teggggR

If you wouldn't mind, could you explain your aggressive turn ins please. Was there the other day and was going in slow motion compared to this 🤣Karts seemed very sensitive to steering input
@DanteDhillon
@DanteDhillon 2 года назад
Only aggressive turn in was turn 6 (by pitlane entry) - literally throwing the kart into the corner to get the back to step out! Everywhere else you must be smooth on the steering...

Great driving. How do these differ from the old Sodi karts in terms of getting the best out of them?
@DanteDhillon
@DanteDhillon Год назад
These karts are easier to get the best out of them due to slower speeds and the better handling. The steering is much more responsive so you can very much direct yourself exactly where you want to go pretty consistently.

Nice driving! How would you say the SR5s compare to the RT8s?

@DanteDhillon

The handling is miles better. Naturally the karts are not as fast, but the new SR5s are much more suitable for the average Daytona customer. Now if you want speed, you have to do dmax

@@DanteDhillon I agree, after spending the last 5 years working at Buckmore GX390 engines are a bit powerful for the average customer, especially if they’re adamant on taking Hairpin One without braking 🙃 What would you say the parity of the DMAX karts is like at Sandown? Are they well maintained? I’ve never driven a DMAX before, only Club100 so I might come and have a go in them.

@@LukeBattersby19 Parity on the DMAX karts are not bad at all. There's many of them very close on laptime. They are maintained well considering customers bash them about!

@@DanteDhillon interesting. I'm making my assetto corsa mod of a sodi sr4, same engine. But I've cut a bit of power from it, I guess they're not cutting any power on those instead. Otherwise I may have put too much aerodynamic resistance. Do you know if the engines are a tiny bit limited or they're not?

@@DanteDhillon cool. Basically I'm doing the indoor track where I drive these, and the kart itself. If you want I can send you a preview, the physics is very spot on even on that track even though I never driven it. On the track that I'm making I'm very close to identical to the karts they've got there, but they limit them a bit there
@piereligiodisante
@piereligiodisante Год назад
@@DanteDhillon can I ask you a big favour? I'd need to know what tyres these karts mount. I suspect that Daytona uses superior tyres than KZR (the track I'm making), because even though I've unrestricted the power, laps on that track seem way too fast compared to what I could do in many laps on it. I can't go below 54, and watching onboards seem that you got more grip. Another possibility is that the guy who made Daytona mod didn't make it perfectly, but I don't know, he says he also used laser scan. Another possibility is that kzr is less grippy and the tyres are more, but it's covered in resin, which provide high grip in theory
