Branding 2024. 

Branding is one of those hard work days that makes you feel great to have done. Physically it is one of our hardest days besides our preg testing day. We usually have another small branding once all the cows have calved. We start setting up the days leading up to branding and make sure that our propane bottles are filled and the vaccine has been ordered and picked up. Cows and calves come in at 8:30 and we sort the cows off. We sometimes start earlier but the calves fur was a bit wet from dew and needed a chance to dry. Bales are then fed and the water gets topped up. We started branding about 10:30 and had two coffee breaks then stopped to eat when we were done branding at about 4:45. We took a vote and decided to not stop for lunch as we thought we’d be too tired to want to finish. We let the branded calves back in with their moms periodically throughout the day. This helps to keep the cows calmer and the noise level down a little…😆 Thanks for watching, Annette🌺

Thanks for sharing the branding day experience! Always a pleasure. I read here that calves are being stolen at night and it’s awful. So sad and disgusting.
