He chose to play through his injury. Back then, superstars always played every minute of the game and they wouldn't miss a game unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. Brandon Roy knew of his knee problems and still chose to play through it eventually destroying his career..

Roy has been the most complete prototypical sg I've ever seen. Jumper, strong, able to finish with either hand, solid defender, post up turnaround game, post up jump hook either way, explosive and a killer instinct. Even kobe said he was gonna be the best sg in the league
I promise you if Brandon Roy wouldve had perfect health he would still be top #3 SG in todays NBA. He let the game come to him and didnt force anything. One of my favorite players ever. Its a shame what couldve been.

Rip City loved Brandon Roy. The eruption from the crowd after his four point play was a result of Portland understanding the struggles with injuries. We were just so happy to see him on the court! I’ll never forget this. Such a pivotal moment in my childhood haha!

I remember this game. Being a Mavs Fan...still I became a Brandon Roy fan after this game! Sadly he was forced to step down with injuries. What I love above all was the character this kid showed. Not only scoring but distributing, rebounding...he' s done it all!

I was at this game and by the end, strangers were hugging each other and near crying from such a miracle comeback... Dallas was unstoppable on their way to a Championship but Portland played them so tough throughout the series.
As a Mavs fan, I gotta say... so after this game we go on and win this series..then have to go through KD and Westbrook..then Kobe and the Lakers..then eventually, against all odds, we win the Championship over the first year Lebron/DWade/Bosh superteam...that's an insane journey with so many moments. Here in 2020, almost 10 years later, let me say..this right here, what Brandon Roy did..this was the most helpless and sick to my stomach 20 or so minutes of that entire run to the Championship. What Dirk and them did during that run was magic, they had an answer for everyone..KD..Russ..Kobe..Lebron.. D-Wade..there were nervous times but we always came out on top..but this..oh, hell no. I remember thinking this isn't even normal behavior..this is a dude who could have been a superstar but he knows his knees are done..he knows his time is almost up..and hes choosing THIS moment to be his swan song. This moment to lay his basketball soul down...Shit. We never had a chance 🤷♂️
Yeah watching the playoffs that year, injured capable superstar guy like BRoy, looked more scarier for the mavs than KD, Russ, Kobe, LeBron, and maybe DWade (who is a close debate), that shows how great he is
I remember watching this years back on live cable while playing online gaming for money. This was so epic and legendary. Roy was so incredible to see him bring us back from 25 pts in the 3rd quarter. Best memory ever of roy
I'm a Celtics fan but the Trail Blazers could of been one of the best teams un the NBA and maybe champions if their players were fully fit ! Their starting 5 would be : PG : Lillard SG : Roy SF : Batum PF : Aldridge P : Oden If all fit this team would have killed the competition

roy aldridge and durant could have been a thing....imagine if they didnt draft oden and roy didnt get injured...oh well....also they could have had drexler and jordan together for their entire careers ...smh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bill walton too...man portlands had bad luck...pippen and his jailblazers in 2000 got screwed ...they lost batum aldridge mathews in one off season....i hope all that bad luck and suffering was all so they could wait for the savior in lillard.... hope lillard can bring them a title....they deserve 1....

Never forget being at this game with my homies. The energy after the first half was like we knew we could comeback. Never been in a more electric stadium and environment during that comeback.
After hearing that Brandon Roy might return next year, I've just been watching clip after clip of his refreshing my memory...I'm from Boston, and I don't know why I like Brandon Roy, but I do. So when I tuned in that day during this game, it was to watch how this guy is doing after all those injuries. Thought I would tune in for 5 min, but man was I wrong. The determination and energy this guy brought to his team...It had me jumping up and down! I hope this guy comes back stronger than before...
I swear brandon was tight back in the day. He couldn't be messed with on the court. Not even kobe could fuck with him. It's a shame what injuries do to good players like Roy.
This game is one of the most bittersweet things I've ever seen. Roy was almost completely sapped of his talent at this point, you can hear the announcers talking about how Roy was slowing fading away as the injuries piled up. Roy knew this but the fact that he was able to muster everything he had left for this spectacular moment should make this iconic. Putting everything on the line even when his body was failing him. Roy loved the city of Portland and the city loved him. Most importantly though, Roy loved basketball with all his heart. Even if he knew this was going to be his last hurrah, he made the most of it :)
this is the game and moment when dirk terry and the mavs finally said we have had enough of these upsets playoff failures losses.....failing choking lol they finished it that year...they went 14 and 3 the rest of the way....and 2 of those losses came against miami ...they swept kobe and beat durant 4-1....
crazy thing about this game that a lot of people don’t know is that he came off the bench this game. only played 24 minutes and still led his team in scoring and had this performance
It was a pleasure watching that game live. That Roy, Aldridge, Wallace blazers team had potential to be title contenders for years to come. Too bad it was not meant to be.
People forget this Blazers team. Aldridge, Roy, Batum, Miller, Fernandez, Wallace, and Matthews (You could also add in old Camby and a very young Patty Mills with hair lol). They are also a team that Dirk had to go through to win that 2011 championship. People only mention the Lakers, the Thunder, and the Heat, but this Blazers team is also tough. Give them their respect which they deserve.

Brandon Roy was so smooth there wasn't anything he couldn't do on the court unfortunately his health robbed him a healthy Roy was Lethal and dangerous. I just got his jersey last week happy to add that to my collection and listen to that fan base I always felt Portland have one of the best fan bases in the NBA. When it's a playoff atmosphere that arena is rocking.
