Brandon Roy , is an American basketball coach and former professional player. Presently, he holds the position of head coach for the boys' basketball team at Garfield High School located in Seattle. Roy had a noteworthy career spanning six seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), during which he played for both the Portland Trail Blazers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. He entered the NBA scene after being drafted as the sixth overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft following an impressive collegiate tenure with the Washington Huskies. Known affectionately as "B-Roy" and sometimes dubbed "the Natural" by Trail Blazers announcer Brian Wheeler, Roy made a significant impact from the outset. However, Roy's career faced a pivotal moment on December 10, 2011, when he announced his retirement from basketball due to a degenerative knee condition. Despite this, he made a brief return in 2012, playing five games for the Timberwolves. Hailing from Seattle, Roy's influence on the Trail Blazers was immediately apparent. His leadership role within the team was solidified after the departure of Zach Randolph, the then-team captain, who was traded to the New York Knicks at the conclusion of Roy's rookie season in 2006-07. Roy's inaugural season was highly successful, earning him the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in a nearly unanimous decision. Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades, including selections to multiple All-NBA teams and appearances as a reserve in the 2008, 2009, and 2010 All-Star Games.
