Personally I'm looking forward to the Prequel/Reboot for Def-Con 4: 2 . Vinny might object though.

Meh title. They could go down in reverse order for the sequels. Like Def-Con 3, etc. It'd keep with the general theme better...

As if anyone in present-day Hollywood had any serious interest in that...

I've been saying that for decades. But the reason they're remaking all these good movies is they're creatively bankrupt in the first place, so I don't trust them to really do a concept like this justice.

But that would use up space they could better use to preach to us and tell us what horrible people we are in comparison to them on their ivory towers.

Just think of the number of movies we have all seen that don't live up to the posters😢

When it comes down to it, it's quite the timeless formula. But it really only works with some measure of nostalgia atached. That's why the Nostalgia critic stopped working when he started reviewing more contenporary movies. Brandon doesn’t exactly have that limitation but still presents this narrative of "cult movies". Movies that aren't usually considered classics but are still remenbered fondly by some. Which is why so many of his reviews are about movies that once were rentals. It's an interesting paradox, how something It's only made timeless by being tied to an especific time, but not made dated by that tie.

Considering the weight of average Americans, 24 hours without fatty food would turn most into cannibals. After all humans are suppose to taste like pig. Yummy.

That always baffled me. The world is even broken down into 'tribes' with established 'laws' when at this point, you'd think people would still be figuring out what the hell even happened.

You weren't paying attention, then. The movie makes it clear that weeks or months pass before they return to earth

@@Laissez-faire402 I actually had forgot that. It's been so long since I'd seen it. I didn't remember any amount of time being mentioned (I just watched it to see my error).

@@crpgdungeonsdragonsnight Its very hard to know how long it would take for the system to collapse following a nuke war since we haven't had one.(yet)The best assumption is the moment currency loses any value and trade with regions which are still functional stops entirely. People that work in government condition their loyalty on whether they get paid or not. In hard currency. Once surviving countries declare the canuck dollar in this case as being worthless trade stops altogether and canadian authorities would be forced to use something else. This trickles down to your average cop eventually. So we can assume the first to bail will be within a month the last to bail in about 6 months once the barter system collapses. There's a reason our ancestors invented money barter is a horribly inneficient system of trade.

I loved that book. Always happy when I hear someone else mention it.

Which is already immersion shattering. Every nation on earth gives their astronaughts extensive survival training.

If you rewatch Escape from New York, Snake, despite his formidable appearance and experience, was often in over his head. After the president's tracker leads him nowhere. He was screwed. He lucks out finding Cabbie, the Brain and Maggie. The glider gets lost. Later the POTUS saves his ass.

Howe is a terrible protagonist and drags down the movie. People love flawed protagonists, but it's hard to root for a coward.

Wait until you see the first two Richard movies or Henrys i-IV.

Not only that, but every car had a Quebec licence plate. It's easy to notice given that they're only attached to the rear of vehicles.

II think it also ties back to the opening text referencing the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) idea. MAD works when both sides want to win but ultimately survive the conflict. However, MAD falls apart when you have someone who does not care if they live or die as long as their goal is achieved.

The premise of this movie Defcon-4 is impossible because it's illegal to have nuclear weapons in outer space as determined by the Moscow test ban treaty of 1963

You know, everyone says that, but it doesn't feel that way. When you watch "Defcon-4," the music all feels like a temp score. Like music written for another movie, but haphazardly inserted into a new film. But this same music in "Godzilla 1985"? Fits it like a damn glove. It's just weird.

Either that or the last nuke going off was the last shot of the war? Presumably, everyone else is dead anyway.

As a wee kid, I remember seeing that same image on the cover of a book in my local library and being TERRIFIED of just the implication of it! Disappointing either way!! The book was dry as hell when I finally read it!

I think I read about it in Gorezone and couldn't wait to rent it. And was also disappointed. I might like it now though.

I was just going to say that. If you want to watch people stuck in a satellite slowly cracking while WW3 bakes the Earth below them, then ISS is exactly that movie.

Not a nuclear apocalypse, but Godzilla doesn't wake up until after the apocalypse in "Godzilla: Final Wars." Also, though, what's really the point if there aren't any cities to smash? Like there's no real stakes left if you bring Godzilla in after an apocalypse. He's just going to be happy man wiped themselves out with the same thing they used to create him.

@@ConstantineFurman You've got survivors, and their encampments and attempts to rebuild, and crumbling cities they have to risk going into for supplies and whatnot.

I had such high hopes for Mutant based on the cover art.

Honestly, the way society is today, I'd absolutely believe it.

I think Leonard Maltin said it was tied with "C.H.U.D." for the grimiest movie ever made.

Only oldies like us still care if it's a European or an Africa swallow...

He was also that crazy Cavalry Colonel in "Dances with Wolves", wasn't he?
