Yeah I can vouch for that too... Brandon asked me via comment to convey his wishes to my father when I mentioned on my Instagram post that he shares a birthday with my father. The first photo I took with him after filming at CHIJMES in Sept 2008 happened to fall on his birthday, and I think I wished him on the spot too.

Brandon Wong is really a 实力派 actor. I watched his dramas, like 知星人 and 单翼天使, he did very well. Finally he got an award! The first time I got to know him on TV is through watching the "Toufu Street" drama series in year 1996. He was also acting a bad guy in that series. He, Cynthia Koh, Zheng Ge Ping, Jacelyn Tay, Peter Yu and Ix Shen all had taken part acting in that drama. Brandon Wong acted as the husband of Cynthia Koh. The drama was released about 27 years ago and all these actors and actresses had different fate since then. In the drama, Zheng Ge Ping was a supporting actor but now he is an all time favorite artiste (most successful career artiste among them). Brandon Wong and Cynthia Koh both struggled very hard in their career (and are still struggling) finally achieved some results in the 2022 Star Awards. Ix Shen's life was the most happening. He was the champion in Star Search 1995. Later being main casts in some drama series, later struggle in career, gave up TCS and went to SPH Channel U in 2001. Mediacorp later purchased Channel U in 2005. He gave up Mediacorp and went to China to advance his acting career, but later his career was hit hard by Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. He got married in 2018 and eventually decided to stay in Ukraine in 2021. Unfortunately, Ukraine became a war zone in 2022. Together with his wife, he ended up as a volunteer in Ukraine in 2022. The life of Ix Shen is really drama in real life.

Yes Ix didnt have much luck when it comes to Star Awards nominations, unlike fellow Star Search 1995 alumni Christopher Lee, Phyllis Quek and Jacelyn Tay who won a few Top 10 Awards along the way. It is indeed a shame that Ix quit from showbiz without any awards despite being the male champion of the 1995 batch, but it is what it is. Brandon was from that batch too, I forgot which show it was that I started to like him, but it was some time in the early 2000s. I acted with him plus a few other artistes in 2 shows in 2008, during my time as calefare. He was very humble and down-to-earth, even better he asked me to convey his blessings to my father who shares a birthday with him!

Brandon was never nominated for Most Popular Male Artistes even once between 1996 to 2021... and when he was finally included, his family and supporters (myself included) got the chance to vote for him, especially since voting is now online plus free. I liked how he made a reference to Fann who won her first Top 10 award in 1995 (along with Best Newcomer AND Best Actress!!) and said "明年还会赢什么呢?". I sincerely hope that MediaCorp wakes up their idea and include Brandon again in next year's Top 40 list, and also Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor list. Don't always give CHW the win, people are getting sick and tired already...

If everyone gets the award then it devalues the award. The top 10 most popular artiste is and should be a cut-throat competition. Don’t get me wrong both are great actors but i think they don’t have memorable roles yet which is a shame.
