I never fully appreciated this song as a teenager when it came out, but now oh man it's such a fantastic piece...To anyone who has ever been in love with a distant/emotionally unavailable person this is so relatable and hits the nail on the head for how you want to be the one to show them true love and heal their loneliness, but alas, the problem lies within them and only they can fill their own void....

Can't believe this joint was released 25 years back. Brandy's hitting the right notes. And the Carlos Santana-like guitar ......absolutely brilliant. Listening to this in June, 2023.

2020 August 06 I'm here...beautiful song still!!!

My girl! It’s sad that people don’t give her the respect she deserves.

This song is my absolute favorate, because it's theme centers so perfectly with my teenage years when I was intensely in love with a girl from church, who also expressed interest in me. But for some reason, I was just too chicken and kept on receding from making a move to get into a serious relationship with her. She waited for years always looking at me from across the choir, hoping one day, I'd do it, but I never did. I don't know what it was. Whenever I was around her I couldn't talk or do anything. I am basically the guy, Brandy is singing about, who just kept on lingering in the grey area leaving the girl uncertain about where this is going. To this day, I'm nearly 30 and despite all my accomplishments, this is my greatest regret of all. She was my first love, whom I can never forget. She is now married, and I sincerely wish her the best. Fellas, never leave a good woman waiting. That's all I can say. ;)

This is one of my all time favorite Brandy songs. You always hear songs about love, falling out of love and heartbreak but rarely songs about the gray areas in a relationship. She sung her heart out on this song. The acoustic guitar adds so much to the song too. Brandy deserves her flowers she is a living legend.

Something I do with songs (especially love/break up songs) is when I hear the word “Me” I imagine that “Me” as my higher self talking to me. When I hear “I” I imagine it as me right now, my ego. When I hear “You” I imagine it as “You” being my subconscious/inner child. This song is one of the most powerful songs I’ve ever listened to from that perspective.

This song hits so differently after you go through something. Praise God. Loving God and Myself and Making No apologies for my faith and strength.

This is such a timeless track. Never heard song that really described what “almost doesn’t count” really could relate to. Tying this to the lack of emotional reciprocity in a relationship is very deep and reminds me of lauryn hill’s “Ex Factor.” Both iconic and timeless.
