The amazing thing about Brandy's first album is because it was released in late 1994, she didn't qualify for most of the 1995 awards season. Yet even by 1996, no other new r&b artist could outsell her which is why she was still winning in '96.

If that’s the case Monica shouldn’t have been nominated either.. this was when artist had hits on their songs and didnt have to make a new album every year because they had 2-3 years work of singles on a single CD
The Image awards are usually early in the year and Brandy debuted in late 94. Most of the success of her debut album was in 95. Brandy being nominated for the 95 awards wouldn’t have made sense as she would’ve been too new
