Every instrument has a story. Chicago Symphony musician Brant Taylor owns an instrument that once belonged to former CSO Principal Cello János Starker, an internationally acclaimed soloist, who also happened to be Taylor’s teacher. “When I look down and see the letter ‘S’ when I’m playing in the CSO, it gives me a little bit of inspiration and keeps me honest, because it’s like my teacher is sitting on my shoulder,” says Taylor referring to the instrument’s special bridge.
