I find it absurd that this whole conversation on defence unquestionably accepts that UK military intervention is a force for good. Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya would suggest otherwise. Less spending on 'defence' would probably save lives.

The defence budget is an easy fix. Stop spending 7 million pounds a day on housing migrants. 7 x 365 = (do the sum and then comment below, it’ll blow your mind).
I know it's a big number but it's not enough. It's less than £3B when the current budget is over £50B. You really need to blow your mind by looking at how much money is being spent in the current budget not just gasping at numbers you find large.
